In this paper, a novel scheme is proposed by introducing the concept of generalized spatial modulation (GSM) and space-time block code (STBC) into simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS) for vehicular communication system. To improve spectral efficiency and diversity gain of vehicular system, STAR-RIS array elements are categorized into reflective and transmissive blocks, establishing a mapping relationship with the index bits by using GSM. Subsequently, the modulated symbols are reflected or transmitted based on the predetermined allocation patterns of the blocks. Specifically, to enhance the reliability of signal reception, one of the most renowned STBC schemes, the Alamouti code, is employed at the STAR-RIS surface by receiving and detecting signals across two consecutive time slots. Furthermore, the new design of leveraging STAR-RIS as an access point (AP) is proposed, which plays the role of source in the communication scenario. The mathematical formulas and theoretical average bit error rate (BER) of the scheme are derived based on preceding analysis. According to simulation results, the suggested scheme can outperform conventional schemes in terms of BER performance. In addition, the proposed redesigned scheme further improves the BER performance with better channel conditions, exhibiting excellent performance advantages. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

The variable-bit-rate traffic characteristic brings a large complication to the dynamic bandwidth allocation and renegotiation of network. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a dynamic prediction scheme of MPEG video *** first advance an initial reversible transformation to the original video GoP sizes and then design an algorithm based on the ARMA process modeling to fit the transformed smooth sequence. At last we take advantage of the multi-step forecast of the series to perform a dynamic prediction for original GoP sizes. An experimental study has shown the good effect of the scheme in this paper. With the help of our prediction scheme, the waste of bandwidth will be limited effectively and the network bandwidth allocation and renegotiation can be developed to be very dynamic and intelligent. © 2009 IEEE.

With widely application of Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file sharing technique, the P2P traffic occupies most of the current Internet bandwidth. Modeling the behaviors of P2P file sharing systems is important for designing and evaluating such systems. In this paper, we develop a novel model to character the dynamic behaviors of P2P sharing systems. States in microcosmic view are defined and used to describe the interaction among the peers in systems. Then, a model in general form for P2P sharing systems is proposed. According to common software policies in P2P systems, we embody the model. To verify the validity and reasonability of the proposed model, P2P simulations are conducted. © 2010 IEEE.

Propose an evolution model for Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file-sharing systems, which try to capture the dynamic properties of P2P application networks. The model consists of four events: node joining, node departure, connection establishing and connection breaking, which captures the most important events in constructing network topology. The evolution model results in a differential equation about degree distribution, which can be solved analytically. By analyzing the solutions, some interesting results can be got. © 2010 IEEE.

With wider application of P2P-based Media Delivery network (P2P-based MDN), much work has been done to improve the system' performance and efficiency in the process of media contents sharing. In this paper, we first propose a specific partially observable Markov Decision Process (POMDP) model for admission control of P2P-based MDN. Based on this model, we provide the observation-based randomized policy to conduct admission control and optimize the policy by applying policy-gradient algorithm. Observation-based policy can promote the system's performance in real time aspect and policy optimizing can increase the accuracy of controller's judgments based on partial information. Admission strategy in the paper can save the cost in operating the system for media service providers. Bandwidth allocation policy is designed to reduce service delay and provide high-quality service. The comparison results of system's performances under different policies indicate that, partial service can utilize the system's resource in a better way.

In this paper, we propose an architecture for highspeed real-time passive HTTP traffic performance measurement. High-speed real-time measurement is hard to realize due to the requirement of high capturing and processing power. We introduce network processor to solve this problem. Then we deploy the system at the Internet access link of a campus network, and demonstrate the processing capability and feasibility of this architecture through the measurement results. © 2011 IEEE.

The paper presents a novel energy efficient routing scheme for photonic network on chip (PNoC) based on the micro-resonator which takes the insertion loss and the path-setup latency into consideration in order to design a high performance per watt multi-processors. The path-setup latency is a major contributor to the whole system's latency that has something to do with queuing. And insertion loss which has impact on power consumption is closely related to the number of micro-resonators in on state. To solve the multi-objective optimization problem, we design a straight line first heuristic routing scheme. The goal of this routing scheme is to reduce the path-setup latency and insertion loss. Simulation results show that this scheme can low the latency with lower the insertion loss as little as possible. ©2009 IEEE.

Bandwidth smoothing can increase the utility of network bandwidth by reducing the burstiness of a VBR (variable bit rate) video stream. To guarantee the quality of service of video-on-command service in home network, data transmission rate should not exceed the maximum data handling capacity of embedded terminals. This paper designs a streaming media system in home network, and puts forward a smoothing algorithm based on greedy algorithm for transmitting VBR video streams subjected to maximum data transmitting rate. The presented algorithm can decrease startup delay of streaming and meet the demand of client buffering requirement under the constraint of maximum transmission rate. Experiment results demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented algorithm. © 2010 IEEE.

BitTorrent(BT) has emerged as one of the most popular protocols for content sharing in recent years. Most BT applications are network-oblivious which brings great challenges to traffic engineering. As basic input information, network-wide BT traffic distribution is of vital importance for service providers (SP) or carriers to enforce appropriate control policies. Direct online measurement of network-wide BT traffic faces scalab.lity issue, for it requires deploying application identification deep packet inspection (DPI) device on every subject link. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to estimate network-wide BT traffic distribution through combining sFlow and Tracker traffic analysis. Owing to a noticeable increase of BT traffic using random port numbers, sFlow alone is no longer sufficient for BT recognition. We tackle this problem by combining sFlow with information collected from BT tracker's traffic. With assistance of this information, BT samples can be accurately distinguished from other sFlow samples. The efficacy of our approach is evaluated through experiments on backbone links of campus network. Evaluation results show that our approach can reach a high accuracy in network-wide BT traffic estimation. © 2011 IEEE.
