Admission control with Elastic QoS for Video on Demand systems

In network service systems, satisfying quality of service (QoS) is one of the main objectives. Admission control and resource allocation strategy can be used to guarantee the QoS requirement. Based on partially observable Markov decision processes (POMDPs), this paper proposes a novel admission control model for video on demand (VOD) service systems with elastic QoS. Elastic QoS is also considered in resource allocation strategy. Policy gradient algorithm is often availab.e to find the solution of POMDP problems, with a satisfactory convergence rate. Through numerical examples, it can be shown that the proposed admission control strategy has better performance than complete admission control strategy.

For achieving more multiplexing degrees, a method to generate and multiplex dual-polarized electromagnetic waves carrying orbital angular momentum(OAM) by a single reflective metasurface is proposed in this paper. Base on this method, a dual-polarized reflective metasurface that can generate eight OAM beams combined into a coaxial beam in terahertz regime is properly designed and simulated to verify this method. According to the simulation results, the proposed method provides an efficient way for a metasurface to generate and multiplex dual-polarized electromagnetic waves carrying OAM. © 2020 IEEE.

In distributed systems, the server placement problem in which a new server has to compete with existing servers for user requests is important in planning of constructing new business service sites. In addition to minimizing cost, competition-aware server placement also needs to maximize the benefit of building a new server. This paper proposes a Tabu Search approach to optimize the problem in general graphs. Results from the simulation experiments show that it do has a better performance than both of the GreedyAdd and GreedyRemove algorithms. © 2011 IEEE.

Frequency synthesizer plays an important role in frequency hopping communication system. In this paper, we derivate the conditions for a system to become the chaotic based on the phase model of phase-locked synthesizer. We found that the system parameter changing during the frequency switching is able to make the system to be chaotic. Based on the Cao's method [5], we find that the fractal dimension of the transient signals should be equal to or less than 4, which also provides the maximal positive Lyapunov exponent. In addition, the unique double-ring attractor of them is also reproduced through the phase reconstruction, which also implies that the frequency switching will result in a chaotic for Frequency-Hopping communication system. © 2014 IEEE.

Femtocells technology has emerged as a promising solution to provide the indoor coverage in the 3rd generation (3G) long-term evolution (LTE) and its advanced (LTE-Advanced) networks. In this paper, we propose a two-step interference coordination scheme to deal with the interference between femtocells in LTE-Advanced networks with carrier aggregation. Each femtocell is assigned a carrier that is non-overlapping with its interfering femtocells or has the least interference in the first step. Then, in the second step, more carriers are attempted to be used by a femtocell in order to improve the system spectrum efficiency based on the specified utility functions. Our simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed interference coordination scheme in terms of throughput.

Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) is a nature way of workflow description. One of the most important and challenging problems in the DAG workflow field is the QoS-constrained scheduling problem with the aim to minimize the cost. This paper proposes a new algorithm to tackle this problem. The algorithm proposed is based on tabu search and make some improvements. Subject to the deadline of the workflow, this algorithm has a lower execution cost than other existing algorithms. Simulation results prove the effectiveness and feasibility of the algorithm. © 2010 IEEE.

This paper constructed signal models of four types of signal in wireless communication, i.e. single user MIMO signal, single user single antenna signal, virtual MIMO signal and multibeam smart antenna signal first, and then proposed a method for blind identification of single user MIMO signal in step by step in noncooperation communication, when the unknown source was one of the four types by using MUSIC algorithm and Forward-backward Spatial Smoothing algorithm to blindly estimate DOAs of the received signal in the first two steps, and use blind channel estimation in the third step. Simulation results show the feasibility of this method. There has not been any published literature reporting research results about this topic yet, so the results of this paper is of important value in both theory and application. © 2008 IEEE.

In this paper,we consider load balancing and maintenance of distributed similarity search system using locality sensitive hashing（LSH） in DHT-based structured P2P *** has been proven efficient in K-Nearest Neighbor（KNN） search in high ***,a number of schemes have been proposed to implement LSH over DHTbased peer-to-peer system to process distributed similarity *** provide an efficient structure using virtual nodes to manage the multi-dimensional LSH bucket space in DHT peers and maintenance algorithm,which improves load balancing in comparison with the state-of-the-art *** effectiveness of the proposed method is proved by experiments.

The video-on-demand systems and video share web are more and more popular in recent years. Video similarity search for content-based video retrieval is important in web service and research field. There is still no satisfying search method for scalab.e fast similarity search in large video database. In order to solve two challenging problems: video similarity measure and fast search method in large database, a novel efficient video similarity search strategy for video-on-demand systems is proposed in this paper. A compact video signature was computed according to image histogram and spatial-temporal features of video. The video similarity is measured by the computation of the distance of video signature. For the scalab.e computing requirement, a new search method based on Clustering Index Table was presented by index clustering. The experimental results from the query tests in large database show this method is highly efficient and effective for similar video search.
