Support Vector Machine (SVM) is a classification technique of machine learning based on statistical learning theory. A quadratic optimization problem needs to be solved in the algorithm, and with the increase of the samples, the time complexity will also increase. So it is necessary to shrink training sets to reduce the time complexity. A sample selection method for SVM is proposed in this paper. It is inspired from the Hyper surface classification (HSC), which is a universal classification method based on Jordan Curve Theorem, and there is no need for mapping from lower-dimensional space to higher-dimensional space. The experiments show that the algorithm shrinks training sets keeping the accuracy for unseen vectors high. © 2010 IEEE.

Semi-G2 basis functions are introduced, the degree of which is larger than three. These basis functions are expressed explicitly via matrices decomposition. Based on them, equations for constructing G2 splines can be presented independently of geometric shape parameters' values. It makes the equation's solving easier. Analysis shows that this method may be extended to be applicable for constructing Gn splines.

This paper presents an efficient and robust automatic process for large-scale sports video analysis. The proposed system firstly identifies the genre of the query video, and then accomplishes the interesting event detection task. The significance of this framework is its automatic characteristic in testing with minimum human involvement in training, as well as the scalab.lity and expansibility in dealing with a large-scale dataset. Domain-knowledge independent local features are extracted from an input video sequence and a histogram based distribution representation is created using the bag-of-visual-words (BoW) model. In genre categorization, k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) classifiers with various dissimilarity measures are assessed and evaluated analytically. For the event detection, a hidden conditional random field (HCRF) structured prediction model is utilized. Overall, this framework demonstrates the efficiency and accuracy in processing voluminous data from sports collection and achieves various tasks in video analysis. Shot type is useful information for semantic sports video analysis. Most existing approaches utilize predefined rules and domain knowledge to derive shot types in sports video. Although these methods have achieved promising results in some specific games, it is hard to extend them from one sport to another. To address this problem, we propose a generic approach to classify shots in sports video. Our approach utilizes bag of visual words model to represent key frame for each shot based on Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) feature points;either Support Vector Machine (SVM) or Probabilistic Latent Semantic Analysis (PLSA) are then employed to classify key frame to determine shot type. As our approach relies little on domain knowledge, it can be more easily extended to different sports. We have evaluated our shot classification approach over five types of sports video and have achieved promising results. To show the usefulness and effectiveness of our shot classification, we apply the results of shot type to detect events in basketball video via a generative-discriminative model. In addition, we have observed that some common visual parts frequently appear across various shots in the same sport or even different but relevant sports. For instance, soccer and basketball are relevant sports in the sense of field-ball game. Motivated by this observation, we attempt to alleviate the problem of insufficient sports video data in some applications by sharing these visual parts across different but relevant kinds of sports. Traditional GEP algorithm takes up many system resources in decoding and evaluating due to the operation of the tree construction and corresponding traversing. This paper aims to introduce a novel GEP algorithm to alleviate the drawback mentioned above. The main contributions include:(1) presenting a new method for decoding and evaluating chromosome (SGDE), and proposing the corresponding ETs construction schema;(2) proving the relative natures of SGDE-GEP;(3)The experiments showed that the average efficiency of SGDE-GEP can be raised from 18.94% to 23.11% compared with the traditional GEP.

The goal of semantic dependency parsing is to build dependency structure and lab.l semantic relation between a head and its modifier. To attain this goal, we concentrate on obtaining better dependency structure to predict better semantic relations, and propose a method to combine the results of three state-of-the-art dependency parsers. Unfortunately, we made a mistake when we generate the final output that results in a lower score of 56.31% in term of lab.led Attachment Score (LAS), reported by organizers. After giving golden testing set, we fix the bug and rerun the evaluation script, this time we obtain the score of 62.8% which is consistent with the results on developing set. We will report detailed experimental results with correct program as a comparison standard for further research.

In this paper, we present our system description for the CoNLL-2012 coreference resolution task on English, Chinese and Arabic. We investigate a projection-based model in which we first translate Chinese and Arabic into English, run a publicly availab.e coreference system, and then use a new projection algorithm to map the coreferring entities back from English into mention candidates detected in the Chinese and Arabic source. We compare to a baseline that just runs the English coreference system on the supplied parses for Chinese and Arabic. Because our method does not beat the baseline system on the development set, we submit outputs generated by the baseline system as our final submission.

In this paper, we present our system description in task of Cross-lingual Textual Entailment. The goal of this task is to detect entailment relations between two sentences written in different languages. To accomplish this goal, we first translate sentences written in foreign languages into English. Then, we use EDITS, an open source package, to recognize entailment relations. Since EDITS only draws monodirectional relations while the task requires bidirectional prediction, thus we exchange the hypothesis and test to detect entailment in another direction. Experimental results show that our method achieves promising results but not perfect results compared to other participants.

Due to the limitation of hardware resources, the traditional people flow monitoring system based on computer vision in public places can't meet different crowd-scale scenarios. Therefore, a people flow monitoring system based on MD-MCNN algorithm is designed, which is an application system combining the improved SSD object detection algorithm MNSSD and MCNN density map regression algorithm. In the initial stage, the system uses MNSSD for accurate detection and counting. If the people flow gradually reaches a certain threshold, the system automatically uses MCNN to estimate people flow until the people flow falls below the threshold. Through the experimental verification, the system can realize the people flow statistics of low-density and high-density people in different scenarios, and can be applied on the existing embedded platform. This scheme can be extended to smart cities, smart scenic spots, smart transportation and other fields. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This paper presents a novel filtration criterion to restrict the rule extraction for the hierarchical phrase-based translation model, where a bilingual but relaxed wellformed dependency restriction is used to filter out bad rules. Furthermore, a new feature which describes the regularity that the source/target dependency edge triggers the target/source word is also proposed. Experimental results show that, the new criteria weeds out about 40% rules while with translation performance improvement, and the new feature brings another improvement to the baseline system, especially on larger corpus. © 2010 Association for Computational Linguistics.
