The key issue of Peer Data Management Systems (PDMSs) is how to efficiently organize and manage distributed resources in P2P networks to accurately route queries from the peer initiating the query to appropriate peers to avoid network flooding. This paper proposes a semantic-based PDMS model, called R-Chord, by deploying the Resource Space Model above the Chord overlay for uniformly, normally and effectively organizing and managing resources distributed in P2P networks. Experiments show that, compared to the Chord model, the R-Chord model is more flexible to support semantic-based queries and can significantly decrease the average visiting number of and visiting times on peers for answering queries. © 2006 IEEE.

Analysis of transforming matrices between Bezier basis functions and geometrically continuous basis functions is presented It is shown that G 2 transforming matrix has some relationship with G1 transforming matrix. Based on this relationship a method of calculating G 1 basis functions is introduced, the degree of which is higher than quadratic. These basis functions are expressed explicitly via matrices decomposition. Equations for constructing G2 splines can be presented independently of geometric shape parameters' values. © 2005 IEEE.

A knowledge flow is invisible but it plays an important role in ordering knowledge exchange in teamwork. It can help achieve effective team knowledge management by modeling, optimizing, monitoring and controlling the operation of knowledge flow processes. This paper proposes the notion of knowledge energy as the driving cause of forming an autonomous knowledge flow network, and explores the behind principles. Knowing these principles can help team managers and the support systems improve cooperation by monitoring the knowledge energy of nodes, and by evaluating and adjusting knowledge flows, A knowledge flow network management system can be the high layer of the Knowledge Grid to help improve the efficiency of distributed knowledge-intensive teamwork. © 2006 IEEE.

Traditional 1-best translation pipelines suffer a major drawback: the errors of 1- best outputs, inevitably introduced by each module, will propagate and accumulate along the pipeline. In order to alleviate this problem, we use compact structures, lattice and forest, in each module instead of 1-best results. We integrate both lattice and forest into a single tree-to-string system, and explore the algorithms of lattice parsing, lattice-forest-based rule extraction and decoding. More importantly, our model takes into account all the probabilities of different steps, such as segmentation, parsing, and translation. The main advantage of our model is that we can make global decision to search for the best segmentation, parse-tree and translation in one step. Medium-scale experiments show an improvement of +0.9 BLEU points over a state-of-the-art forest-based baseline.

How to reduce the amount of relevance judgments is an important issue in retrieval evaluation. In this paper, we propose a novel method using global statistics to rank retrieval systems without relevance judgments. In our method, a series of global statistics of a system, which indicate the percentage of its documents found by k out of all the N systems (k = 1, 2, ..., N), are selected, then a linear combination of the series of global statistics is utilized to fit the mean average precision (MAP) of the retrieval system. Optimal coefficients are obtained by linear regression. No human relevance judgments are required in the entire process. Compared with existing evaluation methods without relevance judgments, our method has two advantages. Firstly, it outperforms all early attempts. Secondly, it is adjustable for different effectiveness measurements, e.g. MAP, precision at n, and so forth. © 2010 IFIP.

Curvelet transform is the combination of the multi-scale analysis and multi-directional analysis transforms, which is more suitable for objects with curves. Applications of the curvelet transform have increased rapidly in the field of image fusion. Firstly, using the curvelet transform, several polarization images can be decomposed into low-frequency coefficients and high-frequency coefficients with multi-scales and multi-directions. For the low-frequency coefficients, the average fusion method is used. For the each directional high frequency sub-band coefficients, the larger value of region variance information measurement is used to select the better coefficients for fusion. At last the fused image can be obtained by utilizing inverse transform for fused curvelet coefficients. In the present work an algorithm for image fusion based on the curvelet transform was implemented, analyzed, and compared with a wavelet-based fusion algorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm works better in preserving the edges and texture information compared with the wavelet-based image fusion algorithms. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Thinning algorithms can be classified into two general types: serial and parallel algorithms. Several algorithms have been proposed, but they have limitations. A new thinning algorithm based on the centroid of the block is presented. The new algorithm checks the 9*9 local neighborhoods around the pixel to find out the centroid pixel of the block, and other pixels are removed. The process is performed iteratively until less than ten pixels are deleted in one loop. To ensure the ridge is one pixel wide, a post-processing loop is designed and the pixels are deleted from the image if they satisfy some conditions. Experimental results are used to compare this new algorithm to other algorithms and their relative performances are assessed. The new algorithm is fast than other algorithms and the ridges are one pixel wide after thinned. ©2009 IEEE.

Large-field high-resolution electron tomography enables visualizing detailed mechanisms under global structure. As field enlarges, the processing time increases and the distortions in reconstruction become more critical. Adopting a nonlinear projection model instead of a linear one can compensate for curvilinear trajectories, nonlinear electron optics and sample warping. But the processing time for the reconstruction with nonlinear projection model is rather considerable. In this work, we propose a new parallel strategy for block iterative reconstruction algorithms. We also adopt a page-based data transfer in this strategy so as to dramatically reduce the processing time for data transfer and communication. We have tested this parallel strategy and it can yield speedups of approximate 40 times according to our experimental results. © 2014 Springer International Publishing Switzerland.

In image/video processing software and hardware products, low complexity interpolation algorithms, such as cubic and splines methods, are commonly used. However, these methods tend to blur textures and produce jaggy effect compared with other adaptive methods such as NEDI, SAI. Tanner graph based image interpolation algorithm has better effect in dealing with edge and texture, but with high computation complexity. Thanks to the high performance parallel processing capability of today's GPU, use of complex algorithms for real time application is becoming possible. In this paper, we present a fast algorithm for tanner graph based image interpolation and it's implementation on GPU. In our algorithm, the image model training process of tanner graph based image interpolation is greatly simplified. Experimental results show that the GPU implementation can be more than 47 times as fast as the CPU implementation. © 2011 IEEE.

Focused crawlers selectively retrieve Web documents that are relevant to a predefined set of topics. To intelligently make predictions and decisions about relevant URLs and web pages, different topic models have been introduced to represent topic-specific knowledge. Yet it is difficult to support semantic interoperability among different models. Moreover, some manually specified additional semantic information, such as semantic markups and social annotations, could not be effectively used to improve crawling. This paper proposes to boost focused crawling with four kinds of semantic models and semantic information, including thesauruses, categories, ontologies, and folksonomies. A statistical semantic association model is proposed to integrate different semantic models, represent heterogeneous semantic information, and support semantic relevance computation. A focused crawling framework is developed which adopts both keyword based contents and different kinds of additional information for relevance prediction and ranking. Experiments show that the proposed model and framework effectively integrates heterogeneous semantic information for focused crawling. © 2008 IEEE.
