Embeded smart sensor: System design and application

This paper proposed an embedded smart sensor which is consisted of a 6 DOF (Degree Of Free) IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), a 3-axis magnetic compass, a monocular camera and a DSP processor which is high performance and power saved, and briefly discussed the design and construction of the system's hardware. By using this embedded smart sensor, we proposed a attitude determination method which is based on the quaternion and the epipolar geometry. The experimental results demonstrated the effectiveness of the methods.

Unsupervised learning technology has caught up with or even surpassed supervised learning technology in general object classification (GOC) and person re-identification (re-ID). However, it is found that the unsupervised learning of fine-grained visual classification (FGVC) is more challenging than GOC and person re-ID. In order to bridge the gap between unsupervised and supervised learning for FGVC, we investigate the essential factors for the performance gap. Furthermore, we propose a simple, effective, and practical method, termed as UFCL, to alleviate the gap. Three key issues are concerned and improved: First, we introduce a robust and powerful backbone, ResNet50-IBN, which has an ability of domain adaptation when we transfer ImageNet pre-trained models to FGVC tasks. Next, we propose to introduce HDBSCAN instead of DBSCAN to do clustering, which can generate better clusters for adjacent categories with fewer hyper-parameters. Finally, we propose a weighted feature agent and its updating mechanism to do contrastive learning, which can improve the optimization process of learning the parameters of the network. The effectiveness of our UFCL is verified on four public FGVC datasets. Under the unsupervised FGVC setting, we achieve state-of-the-art results, and analyze the key factors and the important parameters to provide a practical guidance. © 2023, The Authors. We study the formation control problem for a group of mobile agents in a plane, in which each agent is modeled as a kinematic point and can only use the local measurements in its local frame. The agents are required to maintain a geometric pattern while keeping a desired distance to a static/moving target. The prescribed formation is a general one which can be any geometric pattern, and the neighboring relationship of the N-agent system only has the requirement of containing a directed spanning tree. To solve the formation control problem, a distributed controller is proposed based on the idea of decoupled design. One merit of the controller is that it only uses each agent's local measurements in its local frame, so that a practical issue that the lack of a global coordinate frame or a common reference direction for real multi-robot systems is successfully solved. Considering another practical issue of real robotic applications that sampled data is desirable instead of continuous-time signals, the sampled-data based controller is developed. Theoretical analysis of the convergence to the desired formation is provided for the multiagent system under both the continuous-time controller with a static/moving target and the sampled-data based one with a static target. In recent years, many crowdsourcing platforms have emerged, using the resources of recruited workers to perform diverse outsourcing tasks, where the video analytics attracts much attention due to its practical implications. For maximum profits, platforms carefully choose the workers and determine the video analytics configurations to ensure accuracy;meanwhile, workers possess the flexibility to tailor the configurations for their indivi-dual gains, which makes it hard for platforms to optimize their profits considering the platform-worker conflicts. In this paper, we design an incentive mechanism for Multi-leader game-based video Analytics upon CROwdsourcing, named MACRO, to over-come the above situation. Under that mechanism, we first formu-late the utility optimization problems for platforms and workers, respectively. We then propose a dual ascent-based method to op-timally determine the video analytics configurations for a multi-platform game, ensuring Pareto efficiency. Moreover, in the context of a multi-leader game involving platform-worker conflicts, we design an incentive function with its incentive factor update strategy and propose an ADMM-based approach for maximizing incentives that motivate workers to contribute to the platforms' profits. Rigorous proofs demonstrate the linear convergence of the MACRO to the multi-leader Stackelberg equilibrium. Trace-driven experiments show that MACRO improves the Pareto efficiency by 26.3%, outperforming other approaches. © 2024 IEEE.

Image captioning can automatically generate captions for the given images, and the key challenge is to learn a mapping function from visual features to natural language features. Existing approaches are mostly supervised ones, i.e., each image has a corresponding sentence in the training set. However, considering that describing images always requires a huge of manpower, we usually have limited amount of described images (i.e., image-text pairs) and a large number of undescribed images in real-world applications. Thereby, a dilemma is the "Semi-Supervised Image Captioning". To solve this problem, we propose a novel Semi-Supervised Image Captioning method considering Wasserstein Graph Matching (SSIC-WGM), which turns to adopt the raw image inputs to supervise the generated sentences. Different from traditional single modal semi-supervised methods, the difficulty of semi-supervised cross-modal learning lies in constructing intermediately comparable information among heterogeneous modalities. In this paper, SSIC-WGM adopts the successful scene graphs as intermediate information, and constrains the generated sentences from two aspects: 1) inter-modal consistency. SSIC-WGM constructs the scene graphs of the raw image and generated sentence respectively, then employs the wasserstein distance to better measure the similarity between region embeddings of different graphs. 2) intra-modal consistency. SSIC-WGM takes the data augmentation techniques for the raw images, then constrains the consistency among augmented images and generated sentences. Consequently, SSIC-WGM combines the cross-modal pseudo supervision and structure invariant measure for efficiently using the undescribed images, and learns more reasonable mapping function. Experiments show that our method can outperform state-of-the-art comparison methods on the MS-COCO "Karpathy" offline test split, under different complex semi-supervised scenarios. It has been recognized by many researchers that accurate bus travel time prediction is critical for successful deployment of traffic signal priority (TSP) systems. Although there exist a lot of studies on travel time prediction for Advanced Traveler Information systems (ATIS), this problem for TSP purpose is a little different and the amount of literature is limited. This paper proposes a deep learning based approach for continuous travel time prediction problem. Parameters of the deep network are fine-tuned following a layer-by-layer pre-training procedure on a dataset generated by traffic simulations. Variables that may affect continuous travel time are selected carefully. Experiments are conducted to validate the performance of the proposed model. The results indicate that the proposed model produces prediction with mean absolute error less than 4 seconds, which is accurate enough for TSP operations. This paper also reveals that, except for obvious factors like speed, travel distance and traffic density, the signal time when the prediction is made is also an important factor affecting travel time.

Most existing routing algorithms assume wireless nodes use maximal transmission power or set up the power at the beginning of the network configuration. These static approaches potentially introduce signal interference that can be mitigated through power control. In this paper, we propose a Joint Channel assignment, stable Routing and adaptive Power control (JCRP) approach that dynamically controls the transmission power to avoid the channel interference for improving the channel utility. Our JCRP allows a node to control its transmission power to a certain value at which it has a longest channel conflict-free time. Besides, we propose a novel routing metric integrated selecting stability (ISS) to measure the quality of links, which considers node mobility and channel interference, together with the dynamical power control. The simulation results demonstrate that our JCRP significantly outperforms the related routing algorithms in terms of network throughput.

In order to treat immiscible two-phase flows at large density ratios and high Reynolds numbers, a three-dimensional code based on the discrete unified gas kinetic scheme (DUGKS) is developed, incorporating two major improvements. First, the particle distribution functions at cell interfaces are reconstructed using a weighted essentially non-oscillatory scheme. Second, the conservative lower-order Allen-Cahn equation is chosen, instead of the higher-order Cahn-Hilliard equation, to evolve the free-energy-based phase field governing the dynamics of two-phase interfaces. Five benchmark problems are simulated to demonstrate the capability of the approach in treating two-phase flows at large density ratios and high Reynolds numbers, including three two-dimensional problems (a stationary droplet, Rayleigh-Taylor instability, and a droplet splashing on a thin liquid film) and two three-dimensional problems (binary droplets collision and Rayleigh-Taylor instability). All results agree well with the previous numerical and the experimental results. In these simulations, the density ratio and Reynolds number can reach a large value of O(1000). Our improved approach sets the stage for the DUGKS scheme to handle realistic two-phase flow problems. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.
