H.264 is an advanced video compression standard, absorbing the advantages of the previous standards. In this paper, block-based stereoscopic video coding is studied, and some schemes of using H.264 are discussed. The stereoscopic video coding methods based on H.264 and based on H.263+ are also compared by the experiments, experimental results show that the former is more effective than the latter in compression efficiency and image quality, and the H.264-based stereoscopic video coding scheme with temporal scalab.lity is quite effective. © 2004 IEEE.

Known as an intelligent learning algorithm that can be employed without any sufficient prior information, the reinforcement learning algorithm has been widely used recently. The underwater unknown 3D environment search is a typical application scenario lacking any prior knowledge. This study proposes an algorithm framework including one agent and an intelligent swarm based on the idea of reinforcement learning. This learning algorithm can be adopted to train only one individual. Many of such individuals will then create an intelligent group which can efficiently and completely search underwater unknown 3D environments. Moreover, the proposed algorithm needs no further prior knowledge of the unknown environment. Even if the algorithm fails to reach the optimal level in the use of reinforcement learning, the results confirm the applicability prospect of reinforcement learning in this field and provide an appealing direction. © VDE VERLAG GMBH ∙ Berlin ∙ Offenbach.

Distributed multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radar has attracted much attention for its improved detection and estimation performance as well as enhanced Electronic Counter-Counter Measures (ECCM) ability. In order to protect the target from being detected and tracked by such radar, we consider a barrage jamming strategy orienting towards a distributed MIMO. We first derive the Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) of target parameters estimation using a distributed MIMO under barrage jamming environments. We then set maximizing the CRB as the criterion for jamming resource allocation, aiming at degrading the accuracy of target parameters estimation. Particle swarm optimization is utilized to solve the maximizing problem. Simulation results demonstrate the advantages of the the proposed strategy over traditional jamming methods. © 2019 IEEE.

software requirements, especially non-functional requirements, are considered as vital prerequisites for producing software of high quality. As widely accepted, non-functional goal modeling like the NFR Framework usually employs tree modeling style, and presents an interactive process for the analysis of nonfunctional requirements. However, there still exist some problems during the identification of satisficing status. This paper based on the popular NFR goal model reasoning manners, clearly distinguishes the closed world assumption and the open world assumption, and proposes an automatic reasoning mechanism for NFR goal models in order to identify the satisficing statuses of the goal tree roots according to leaves' contributions. Under a specific assumption, goals' satisficing statuses will be transformed to affect satisficing statuses of their parents. Then parents'satisficing statuses will be inferred according to the reasoning rules derived from different decomposition relationships. By alternately adopting these two steps, goal tree root's satisficingstatus can be identified layer by layer. An illustrative example is used to show how our proposed formal approach works. © 2011 IEEE.

As a fundamental problem of wireless sensor networks, the minimal exposure path problem corresponding to the sensor network's worst-case coverage plays an important role in the applications for detecting intrusions. However, most existing works about minimal exposure path are based on omnidirectional sensors. In contrast, this paper studies the minimal exposure path problem for directional sensor networks. We first develop a directional sensing model: directional sensitivity model. Then, we formulate the minimal exposure path problem by using two sensing intensity functions: all-sensor intensity function and maximum-sensor intensity function, and generate two weighted grids to convert the minimal exposure path problem into two discrete geometric problems. Based on the above weighted grids, we also develop two approximation algorithms to find the minimal exposure path for the directional sensitive model. We conduct extensive simulations to validate and evaluate our proposed models and algorithms.

We study the problem of automatically generating source code from different forms of user intents. Existing methods treating this problem as a language generating task of the neural network, known as Neural Program Synthesis (NPS). Most of these methods struggle with achieving high generating accuracy, one reason for that is the incompleteness and inaccuracy of user intents for a specific programming task. Inspired by the Swarm Intelligence (SI) and Collective Intelligence (CI) techniques, we proposed an automatic task-specific user intent merging framework combining both the bio-inspired algorithm in SI and CI merged from multiple developers. Empirically, we show that our approach is able to provide more accurate and adequate input for NPS, and our experiment on CI indicates that knowledge merging among isolated software developers in our approach has a significant influence on NPS.

In wireless sensor networks, most existing works on region coverage mainly concentrate on the omnidirectional sensor based full coverage, which ensures that all points in the sensor-deployed region are covered. In contrast, this paper studies the problem of exposure-path prevention for the region coverage in directional sensor networks. Because the exposure paths are prevented as long as no moving objects or phenomena can go through a sensor-deployed region without being detected, exposure-path prevention does not require full coverage, and instead it only needs the partial coverage. Towards this end, we apply the percolation theory to solve the exposure path problem for directional sensor networks. In particular, we map the exposure path problem into a sector based percolation model, and then derive the bounds of critical density where directional sensors are deployed according to a 2-dimensional Poisson process. Also conducted is a set of extensive simulations to validate and evaluate our developed models and schemes. ©2009 IEEE.

Component-based synthesis is one of the hottest research areas in automated software engineering. It aims to generate programs from a collection of components like Java library. However, the program space constituted by all the components in the library is fairly large, which leads to a vast number of candidate programs generated for a long time. The intractability of the program space affects the synthesis efficiency of the program and the size of the program generated. In this paper, we propose ITAs, a framework of iterative program synthesis via API usage knowledge from the Internet, which can significantly improve the efficiency of program synthesis. ITAs aims to constrain the program space by combining two main ideas. First, narrow down the program space from the outside via the guidance of API usage knowledge. Second, expand the program space from the inside via iterative strategy based on knowledge. For evaluation, we collect a set of programming tasks and compare our approach with a program synthesis tool on synthesizing these tasks. The experiment results show that Itas can significantly improve the efficiency of program synthesis, which can reduce the synthesis time by 97.1 % than the original synthesizer.

A distributed fault-tolerant formation control law is designed in this paper for multi-agent systems under external disturbances and actuator faults including time-varying loss of effectiveness faults. The initial position of each agent is already on a circle and the control purpose is to form a desired formation on this circle. Based on this local information, a distributed adaptive formation control law is designed by employing the congelation of variables method to deal with time-varying actuator faults. Removing water fluctuation via motion field-based kernel regression

A new approach is proposed in this paper to recover the original image of an underwater scene from a given sequence distorted by water fluctuation. The contribution of our method is to use a motion field-based kernel regression to reconstruct an undistorted image. It first utilizes the image registration method to generate registered frames and the corresponding motion fields, and then detect a set of stationary patches from registered frames by calculating the movement energy of local regions. Finally, a temporal kernel regression is carried out to combine the detected stationary patches to reconstruct an undistorted stationary image. Experiments illustrate that this approach can effectively alleviate distortions and significantly improve visual quality of the distorted images. Copyright © 2014 Binary Information Press.
