Hierarchical classification models have been proposed to achieve high accuracy by transferring effective information across the categories. One important challenge for this paradigm is to design what can be transferred across the categories. In this paper, we propose a novel method to learn a sharing model by taking advantage of multi-level feature representations. Unlike many of the existing methods which learn the sharing model based on identical feature space, multi-level feature detectors enable our model to capture rich visual information in hierarchical category structure. Moreover, hierarchical classifier parameters associated with multi-level feature representations are learned to model the visual correlation in the hierarchy. The experimental results on Caltech-256 dataset and ImageNet subset demonstrate that our method achieves excellent performance compared with some state-of-the-art methods, and shows the advantage of multi-level information transfer. © 2014 IEEE.

Reversing the syntactic format of program inputs and data structures in binaries plays a vital role for understanding program behaviors in many security *** this paper,we propose a collab.rative reversing technique by capturing the mapping relationship between input fields and program data *** key insight behind our paper is that program uses corresponding data structures as references to parse and access different input fields,and every field could be identified by reversing its corresponding data *** details,we use a finegrained dynamic taint analysis to monitor the propagation of *** identifying base pointers for each input byte,we could reverse data structures and conversely identify fields based on their referencing data *** construct several experiments to evaluate the *** results show that our approach could effectively reverse precise input formats,and provide unique benefits to two representative security applications,exploit diagnosis and malware analysis.

In order to extend the sensor’s lifetime, this paper researched deeply into the sleep scheduling mechanism in the distributed sensor network. Now, the commonly used sleep scheduling methods based on the coverage have the problem of response delay, so we proposed a sleep scheduling method based on the half-sleep state to overcome this shortcoming. Under the control of regional agent node, this method adopts a minimum coverage algorithm based on the approximate solution to select the minimum coverage node set. Experimental results show that the proposed scheduling method can both reduce power consumption of the whole network effectively and extend the lifetime of the sensor noticeably. © Institute for computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2014.

Opposition-based learning (OBL) scheme is an effective mechanism to enhance soft computing techniques, but it also has some limitations. To extend the OBL scheme, this paper proposes a novel rotation-based learning (RBL) mechanism, in which a rotation number is achieved by applying a specified rotation angle to the original number along a specific circle in two-dimensional space. By assigning different angles, RBL can search any point in the search space. Therefore, RBL could be more flexible than OBL to find the promising candidate solutions in the complex search spaces. In order to verify its effectiveness, the RBL mechanism is embedded into differential evolution (DE) and the rotation-based differential evolution (RDE) algorithm is introduced. Experimental studies are conducted on a set of widely used benchmark functions. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of RBL mechanism, and the proposed RDE algorithm performs significantly better than, or at least comparable to, several state-of-the-art DE variants. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

The paper proposes a novel approach based on the hierarchical timed automata to verify the consistency of dynamic evolution process. Different from traditional approaches, it investigates the problem from the behavioral perspective and examines the procedures before, during and after the evolution process. Furthermore, our approach can support the direct modeling of temporal aspects, as well as the hierarchical structures. A flattening algorithm is presented to facilitate the automated verification using the mainstream timed automata based model checker - UPPAAL. A motivating example is discussed and demonstrates the feasibility of our approach. © 2014 ACM.

Reproducing the writing process of ancient handwritten artworks is a popular way to appreciating and learning the expert skills of Chinese calligraphy. This paper presents a system for reappearing the writing processes of calligraphic characters in different styles. In order to convey the accurate brush skill inside a stroke, a calligraphic character is first decomposed into several strokes, then the writing trajectory and footprint data of each stroke are calculated based on the edge and skeleton, which reveal the relations between shape description and writing skills, and finally the character can be rendered in the oriental ink style dynamically along the trajectory using our writing rhythm and brush footprint models. Consequently, the animation of calligraphy writing can be produced with both shape and spirit features conveyed, and thus provides a visual and relax way to the comprehension of the complicated and difficult techniques in Chinese calligraphy.

To solve the problem of aspect angle sensitivity of range profile while used in radar target recognition, the concept "distributed glint" is presented for high resolution radar. The detailed deducing procedure of "distributed glint" is given through theoretical analysis. A new target recognition strategy based on range profile and distributed glint is proposed. computer simulation proves that this method can greatly enhance the performance of recognition strategy based on range profile. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

The distinguished features of mobile computing bring both opportunities and challenges to the development of Mobile Social Networking (MSN) applications. Learning the successful experiences from existing MSN applications is valuable to both industry and academy. The paper aims at identifying the success factors of Instagram, a well-known MSN application. By performing a historical case study, rapid development and reaction, continuous focus on system scalab.lity on demand, and creating a good external environment are regarded as the three important success factors. To achieve those success factors, 1) using existing mature Open Source software (OSS) extensively and consulting resident experts at websites when necessary are the secrets to develop and react to new requirements rapidly;2) monitoring the status of the system by tools and focusing on scalab.lity in both architecture design and detail optimization are vital to guarantee the system scalab.e on demand;and 3) creating appropriate social networks for different type of stakeholders using right popular social media tools is important to create a good external environment effectively. Based on these insights, the development methodology of Instagram has been extracted, that can be used to guide the MSN application development. At the end, the validation, reliability and generalizability of the information gathered from the case study are discussed thoroughly. Copyright 2014 ACM.

In this paper, in order to improve the stability of DC microgrids with constant power loads (CPLs), a virtual impedance based method is proposed. The CPLs have inherent instability issues induced by negative incremental impedances. To enhance the system stability, two types of virtual impedance based stabilizers comprised of series-connected inductance and resistance are employed. Type I stabilizer locates at the output capacitor branch, and Type H stabilizer locates at the output inductance branch. Meanwhile, considering that the parallel interfacing converters are commonly in parallel in a microgrid, droop control is taken into account. To validate the stability of the above stabilizers in a DC microgrid with parallel interfacing converters and CPLs, the impedance matching approach is employed. It is demonstrated that, the instable poles can be moved to the stable region in the frequency domain by the proposed stabilizers. Simulations with three interfacing converters are conducted by using MATlab.Simulink, which verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods. It is shown that both of the proposed virtual impedance based stabilizers can effectively enhance the system stability with CPLs. © 2014 IEEE.

Search-based method using meta-heuristic algorithms is a hot topic in automatic test data generation. In this paper, we develop an automatic test data generating tool named particle swarm optimization data generation tool (PSODGT). The PSODGT is characterized by the following two features. First, the PSODGT adopts the condition-decision coverage (C/DC) as the criterion of software testing, aiming to build an efficient test data set that covers all conditions. Second, the PSODGT uses a particle swarm optimization (PSO) approach to generate test data set. In addition, a new position initialization technique is developed for PSO. Instead of initializing the test data randomly, the proposed technique uses the previously-found test data that can reach the target condition as the initial positions so that the search speed of PSODGT can be further accelerated. The PSODGT is tested on four practical programs. Experimental results show that the proposed PSO approach is promising. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.
