Hierarchically porous aluminum borate whisker-based ceramics via freeze-gel casting and in situ reaction

Porous aluminum borate ceramics are ideal candidates for high-temperature thermal insulation applications. In this work, lightweight, high strength and thermal insulating aluminum borate whisker-based porous ceramics with hierarchical pore structure were fabricated by the combination of freeze-gel casting and in situ reaction. The effects of B/Al ratio on the morphology of aluminum borate whiskers and the addition amount of agar on the pore structure and properties of aluminum borate whisker-based porous ceramics were investigated. The aluminum borate whisker-based porous ceramics exhibited a typical hierarchical pore structure, including macro pores formed by the growth of ice crystal in the freeze casting process and micro pores in pore walls formed by the overlapped aluminum borate whiskers generated from the in situ reaction of B4C and Al2O3. Results shows when the B/Al molar ratio was 6:9 and the addition amount of agar was 0.4 g, the resultant aluminum borate whiskerbased porous ceramics shows a low density（0.20 g/cm3）, high porosity（93.5 %）, high compressive strength（4.09 MPa） and low thermal conductivity(0.072 W/（m·K）), which can be regarded as a promising high temperature thermal insulation structural material.

Enhanced visible light responsive piezoelectric photocatalysis based on Bi2S3 coated BaTiO3 nanorods heterostructures

Although the presence of the built-in electric field will solve the problem of carrier complexation in photocatalytic systems to some extent. However, free carriers will quickly shield the stabilized electric field and lose its effect. Therefore, how to introduce the dynamic piezoelectric field into the photocatalytic system has become an imminent problem. Herein, we developed an overcoated, visible light responsive, piezoelectric-assisted photocatalytic system by depositing Bi2S3 photocatalysts with a narrow-band system onto the surface of highly piezo-responsive BaTiO3 nanorods (BTO NRs). The heterojunction structure, bound by Bi-O chemical bonding, enhances carrier transport efficiency under the influence of the piezoelectric field. In the degradation experiments, the first-order rate constant for the degradation of chlortetracycline hydrochloride (CTC) in the BTO NRs/Bi2S3 system with the optimal complex ratio was 0.0276 min−1, which was 3.1 and 7.8 times higher than that of BTO NRs and Bi2S3, respectively. Additionally, we deduced the degradation pathways of CTC through a combination of Density functional theory (DFT) calculations and Liquid Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer (LC-MS), evaluating the toxicity of the intermediates. This complex system, featuring a highly photo-responsive semiconductor as a photo-acceptor deposited on a piezoelectric semiconductor surface providing a dynamic built-in electric field, enhances carrier separation efficiency under optimal light energy utilization conditions. These findings present novel and effective strategies for addressing two primary challenges in photocatalytic systems: low spectral utilization and significant photogenerated carrier complexation. © 2024 Elsevier Inc.

Dense carbon nanofiber self-supporting electrode fabricated by orientation/compaction strategy for high volumetric lithium storage capacity

Low bulk density greatly restricts the large-scale application of electrospun carbon-based fiber membrane as electrode in energy storage devices. To solve the above challenges, herein an orientation-compaction densification strategy is proposed to enhance the bulk density and volumetric capacity of PAN-based carbon nanofiber membranes as self-supporting electrode used in lithium-ion batteries（LIBs）. Specifically, highly-oriented fibers are achieved by high-speed roller collecting during electrospinning, and compaction densification is conducted by hot-pressing treatment. The effects of collecting speed and hot-pressing pressure on the morphology, conductivity,bulk density, tensile strength, and flexibility of the obtained carbon nanofiber membrane are *** to conventional fiber membranes, of which fibers are disorderly stacked, the oriented fiber membrane is much easier to achieve dense stacking by compaction. The obtained dense carbon nanofiber membrane demonstrates a bulk density of 0.566 g cm-3, and shows a significantly-enhanced volumetric capacity(318.3 mA h cm-3), high-rate performance(86.6 mA h cm-3at 5 A g-1), and satisfactory cycling stability when used as selfsupporting electrode of LIBs.

Meta-GPS++: Enhancing Graph Meta-Learning with Contrastive Learning and Self-Training

Node classification is an essential problem in graph learning. However, many models typically obtain unsatisfactory performance when applied to few-shot scenarios. Some studies have attempted to combine meta-learning with graph neural networks to solve few-shot node classification on graphs. Despite their promising performance, some limitations remain. First, they employ the node encoding mechanism of homophilic graphs to learn node embeddings, even in heterophilic graphs. Second, existing models based on meta-learning ignore the interference of randomness in the learning process. Third, they are trained using only limited lab.led nodes within the specific task, without explicitly utilizing numerous unlab.led nodes. Finally, they treat almost all sampled tasks equally without customizing them for their uniqueness. To address these issues, we propose a novel framework for few-shot node classification called Meta-GPS. Specifically, we first adopt an efficient method to learn discriminative node representations on homophilic and heterophilic graphs. Then, we leverage a prototype-based approach to initialize parameters and contrastive learning for regularizing the distribution of node embeddings. Moreover, we apply self-Training to extract valuable information from unlab.led nodes. Additionally, we adopt S (scaling and shifting) transformation to learn transferable knowledge from diverse tasks. The results on real-world datasets show the superiority of Meta-GPS. Superior stable high-voltage LiCoO_(2) enabled by modification with a layer of lithiated polyvinylidene fluoride-derived LiF

High-voltage LiCoO_(2) (LCO) can deliver a high capacity and therefore significantly boost the energy density of Li-ion batteries (LIBs). However, its cyclab.lity is still a major problem in terms of commercial applications. Herein, we propose a simple but effective method to greatly improve the high-voltage cyclab.lity of an LCO cathode by constructing a surface LiF modification layer via pyrolysis of the lithiated polyvinylidene fluoride (Li-PVDF) coating under air atmosphere. Benefitting from the good film-forming and strong adhesion ability of Li-PVDF, the thus-obtained LiF layer is uniform, dense, and conformal;therefore, it is capable of acting as a barrier layer to effectively protect the LCO surface from direct exposure to the electrolyte, thus suppressing the interfacial side reactions and surface structure deterioration. Consequently, the high-voltage stability of the LCO electrode is significantly enhanced. Under a high charge cutoff voltage of 4.6 V, the LiF-modified LCO (LiF@LCO) cathode demonstrates a high capacity of 201 mA h g^(−1) at 0.1 C and a stable cycling performance at 0.5 C with 80.5% capacity retention after 700 cycles, outperforming the vast majority of high-voltage LCO cathodes reported so far.

Exploring the Feasibility and Challenges of Treating Follow-up Patients via a Mobile Platform in China

Mobile technology is being increasingly adopted in teleconsultation for its convenience and mobility. Although widely accepted by physicians for informal online consultations, the effectiveness of mobile platforms in formal medical interventions, such as follow-up treatments, remains largely underexplored. This research presents a case study from a Chinese hospital, examining how physicians use mobile platforms to treat chronic patients, the challenges they encounter, and their overall experience. The study aims to determine whether mobile technology can enable physicians to fulfill their responsibilities in managing chronic disease follow-ups online. Through observations and interviews, we found that using mobile platforms introduces significant challenges. Physicians operate in complex and varying environments, such as workplaces, homes, and even public areas, making them struggle to access comprehensive information, communicate effectively, and maintain detailed medical records. As a result, physicians face poor working conditions, reduced efficiency, and struggle to make accurate treatment decisions. This study highlights the need for policy reforms and technological innovations to ensure sustainable teleconsultation practices on mobile platforms. It contributes to the HCI and CSCW communities by highlighting the feasibility of using mobile platforms in online chronic disease follow-ups. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). Huazhong University of science and technology is building a cyclotron-based Proton Therapy Facility (HUST-PTF). The facility mainly consists of a 240 MeV superconducting cyclotron, a beam transport line, a fixed treatment room and two rotational treatment rooms. HUST-PTF uses three kinds of detectors, Scintillation, Faraday cup and ionization chamber, for the beam parameter measurements. In terms of structure, the HUST PTF beam diagnostic system is built according to the standard distributed three-layer structure, which is divided into hardware device layer, data processing layer and GUI layer. Different protocols are used to communicate between the three layers, which can improve reliability and expand flexibly in each layer. © 2024 International Beam Instrumentation Conference. A stable and highly active core‐shell heterostructure electrocatalyst is essential for catalyzing oxygen evolution reaction(OER).Here,a dual‐trimetallic core‐shell heterostructure OER electrocatalyst that consists of a NiFeWS_(2) inner core and an amorphous NiFeW(OH)_(z)outer shell is designed and synthesized using in situ electrochemical *** electrochemical measurements of different as‐synthesized catalysts with a similar mass loading suggest that the core‐shell Ni_(0.66)Fe_(0.17)W_(0.17)S_(2)@amorphous NiFeW(OH)_(z) nanosheets exhibit the highest overall performance compared with that of other bimetallic reference catalysts for the ***,the nanosheet arrays were in situ grown on hydrophilic‐treated carbon paper to fabricate an integrated three‐dimensional electrode that affords a current density of 10 mA cm^(−2) at a small overpotential of 182 mV and a low Tafel slope of 35 mV decade^(−1) in basic *** Faradaic efficiency of core‐shell Ni_(0.66)Fe_(0.17)W_(0.17)S_(2)@amorphous NiFeW(OH)_(z) is as high as 99.5% for *** scanning electron microscope,transmission electron microscope,and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses confirm that this electrode has excellent stability in morphology and elementary composition after long‐term electrochemical ***,density functional theory calculations further indicate that the core‐shell heterojunction increased the conductivity of the catalyst,optimized the adsorption energy of the OER intermediates,and improved the OER *** study provides a universal strategy for designing more active core‐shell structure electrocatalysts based on the rule of coordinated regulation between electronic transport and active sites.

Fabrication and characterization of mullite fiber-based porous ceramics with mixed fiber lengths for high-temperature gas filtration

The emissions and particulate pollutants (PM) from industrialization and other human activities have become a significant threat to human health. Researchers have experimented with various fiber-bonded filters, but there are still relatively few products with good high-temperature resistance. In this paper, a fiber-bonded porous ceramic with high porosity was prepared by vacuum filtration combined with freeze-drying using two homemade mullite fibers with different length-to-diameter ratios as raw materials and mullite sol as binder. When the content of fine fibers is 40 %, the product has a better overall performance, its density is 0.63g/cm3, porosity is 74 %, strength is 0.77 MPa, thermal conductivity is 0.153 W m−1 K−1. When the airflow rate of 2 L/min, the pressure drop is 80 Pa, the filtration efficiency of about 99 %, the QF is 0.08 pa−1, The mullite fiber-bonded porous ceramics prepared through a simple process exhibit excellent filtration performance, offering a wide range of potential applications. © 2025

The coarse Al-Mg intermetallic compounds and oxide film at the Al/Mg bimetal interface strongly limit and weaken the interfacial bonding performance. The introduction of ultrasonic vibration into the liquid medium could provide high-frequency oscillations and induce unique acoustic effects in liquid melt, which have significant impacts on the flow field and temperature field of the liquid medium, and may be aided for the enhancement of the Al/Mg bimetal interface. In this work, the Al/Mg bimetals were fabricated by ultrasonic vibration-assisted solid-liquid compound lost foam casting. The ultrasonic vibration treatment (UVT) was introduced to the Al/Mg interfaces, and the effects of UVT on the interfacial microstructures and mechanical properties were investigated. The results revealed that the microstructures of the Al/Mg interface with UVT were refined and got more homogeneous, and the oxide film at the Al/Mg interface was fractured and eliminated. The microhardness was more uniform, and the bonding strength of the Al/Mg bimetal with UVT was enhanced to 61.4 MPa, with an increase of 89.5%, compared with that of the Al/Mg bimetal without UVT. © 2024 75th World Foundry Congress, WFC 2024.
