The retinal nerve fiber layer defects (RNFLD) provide early objective evidence for many retinal abnormalities, especially early glaucoma. The recent success of deep learning has led to exciting prospects in automating the detection of RNFLD, but it is highly dependent on the availability of large-scale datasets carefully annotated by experienced ophthalmologists, which is both time-consuming and cost-prohibitive. Most previous works on RNFLD detection lack a unified annotation scheme. In addition, they fail to exploit the intrinsic morphological characteristics of retinal nerve fiber bundles (RNFB). This work presents an automatic RNFB tracing method that is applicable not only in automating the RNFLD annotation process, but also in performing a quasi-polar transformation on fundus images for subsequent RNFLD detection tasks. Also, our proposed method paves the way for alleviating the problem of inter-annotator variation incurred merely by different annotation habits among annotators and reducing the noise before the input stage. Experiments reveal that our proposed quasi-polar transformation provides a significant boost to the existing RNFLD detection method and surpasses the state-of-the-art F1 by 4.2%, and that our method also offers a more accurate and reasonable description of RNFLD detection results, which demonstrates the orientation of RNFLD rather than vague position indication.

Academic collaboration has become one of the topics of large-scale social network analysis. The information extracted from academic collaboration also shows the contextual value in combination with other data. For academic collaborative social networks with intricate collaborative relationships, previous research methods mainly focused on network structure and community discovery, lacking in mining the characteristics of relationships in collaborative networks. There were some limitations in the research perspective. In this work, we propose a collaborative relationship representation method that is more suitable for academic collaborative social networks. It marks the attribute characteristics of nodes in collaborative relationships and highlights collaborative relationships in visualization. By adopting this new representation of collaborative relationships, we designed a visual analysis framework NcoVis, to visualize academic collaborative social networks. We further visually analyze the link relationship groups guided by nodes, and explore the potential representation of the structure and attribute characteristics of link relationships, so that analysts can explore the theme and structural change characteristics of link relationships, communities and the whole network in collaborative social networks. To prove the proposed framework, we conducted a case study on the academic collaboration literature data set, and analyzed the questionnaire with Likert scale through the user evaluation experiment, which verified the effectiveness of our method and the practicability of NcoVis. © 2022 IEEE.

As the study of graph pattern matching (GPM) attracts more and more scholars, the research of GPM in the medical field begins to emerge, from protein structure analysis to breast cancer classification diagnosis, and GPM is more and more widely adopted. However, in medical knowledge graphs (MKG), when the pattern graph dynamically changes, to obtain the matching results of the changed pattern graph, the traditional method has to carry out global matching instead of local matching, which causes a waste of resources and takes a lot of time. To quickly return the matching results of the dynamic pattern graph in MKGs, in this paper, we introduce a caching mechanism to cache the previous matching results and propose a new longest common path matching (M-LCPM) algorithm based on multithreading. The algorithm only performs partial matching on the changed pattern graph and can quickly obtain the matching result. Considering that the M-LCPM algorithm cannot get matching results when the pattern graph changes completely and there may be missing matching subgraphs when the M-LCPM algorithm performs matching, we optimize the M-LCPM algorithm and propose the M-LCPM-Enhance algorithm. Experimental results on two data sets show that our dynamic algorithm is more efficient than existing algorithms. © 2022 IEEE.

SALI: A Scalable Adaptive Learned Index Framework based on Probability Models

The growth in data storage capacity and the increasing demands for high performance have created several challenges for concurrent indexing structures. One promising solution is learned indexes, which use a learning-based approach to fit the distribution of stored data and predictively locate target keys, significantly improving lookup performance. Despite their advantages, prevailing learned indexes exhibit constraints and encounter issues of scalability on multi-core data storage. This paper introduces SALI, the Scalable Adaptive Learned Index framework, which incorporates two strategies aimed at achieving high scalability, improving efficiency, and enhancing the robustness of the learned index. Firstly, a set of node-evolving strategies is defined to enable the learned index to adapt to various workload skews and enhance its concurrency performance in such scenarios. Secondly, a lightweight strategy is proposed to maintain statistical information within the learned index, with the goal of further improving the scalability of the index. Furthermore, to validate their effectiveness, SALI applied the two strategies mentioned above to the learned index structure that utilizes fine-grained write locks, known as LIPP. The experimental results have demonstrated that SALI significantly enhances the insertion throughput with 64 threads by an average of 2.04× compared to the second-best learned index. Feature selection for multi-source multi-label data has attracted much attention, because there are a lot of scenarios that produce multiple source data with multi-labels in the real-world applications, which aggravates the problems of dimensional disaster and the label skewness. However, most of existing multi-source feature selection methods miss the multi-label issue while existing multi-label feature selection methods can not select the optimal feature set in the multi-source environment. Motivated by this, we propose a novel feature selection method, called MSMLFS. To be specific, the Inf-FS algorithm is firstly introduced to handle multi-label feature selection for each data source, which considers the label weight in the feature selection. Secondly, the over-sampling mechanism and the inter-source feature fusion method are used to handle the label skewness of multi-label data and the feature selection in multiple sources respectively. Finally, extensive experiments conducted on synthetic and real-world multi-source multi-label data sets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms several state-of-the-art multi-source or multi-label feature selection methods.

Each Fake News is Fake in its Own Way: An Attribution Multi-Granularity Benchmark for Multimodal Fake News Detection

Social platforms, while facilitating access to information, have also become saturated with a plethora of fake news, resulting in negative consequences. Automatic multimodal fake news detection is a worthwhile pursuit. Existing multimodal fake news datasets only provide binary labels of real or fake. However, real news is alike, while each fake news is fake in its own way. These datasets fail to reflect the mixed nature of various types of multimodal fake news. To bridge the gap, we construct an attributing multi-granularity multimodal fake news detection dataset AMG, revealing the inherent fake pattern. Furthermore, we propose a multi-granularity clue alignment model MGCA to achieve multimodal fake news detection and attribution. Experimental results demonstrate that AMG is a challenging dataset, and its attribution setting opens up new avenues for future research. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Objective: To develop a Convolution Neural Network (CNN) and discuss its performance in the estimation of Glomerular Fifiltration Rate (GFR) for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Methods: A total of 112 patients with chronic kidney disease were enrolled in this study. The GFR is measured by 99mTc-DTPA renal dynamic and used as standard GFR after normalization by body surface area imaging. We established a CNN model and verified the performance of the model by comparing the GFR predicted by the model with the standard GFR. It turned out that the CNN could better evaluate the GFR of patients which is superior to the CG formula, MDRD formula, CKD-EPI formula and GRNN model. Conclusions: The CNN significantly evaluated GFR for patients with CKD, and it showed better performance than traditional methods and GRNN model and closer to the results of 99mTc-DTPA. The experimental results demonstrated that CNN could be used to estimate GFR. © 2022 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Investment promotion refers to the process by which the government uses disposable resources to attract investors to the region for production and business activities. The existing basic mode of attracting investment is to collect information about enterprises and entrepreneurs through manual methods, determine the target enterprise from the list of enterprises, and then attract investment through visits, negotiations, and other methods. As contacting and visiting companies one by one requires huge amounts of manpower and time, the choice of target companies is critical for attracting investments. However, to the best of our knowledge, no study has conducted research from the perspective of knowledge-graph-based recommendation. In this study, we define the problem of target company recommendation in the process of investment promotion, and analyze the characteristics of the problem and the challenges it faces based on the background of the actual problem. Then, a two-tier model for solving this problem is provided from the perspective of knowledge graph reasoning. Aiming at the problem that the knowledge graph will frequently change, the model is designed based on the idea of combining the advantages of global and local link prediction. The experimental results on real-world data demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model.
