Human pose estimation in videos remains a challenge, largely due to the reliance on extensive manual annotation of large datasets, which is expensive and labor-intensive. Furthermore, existing approaches often struggle to capture long-range temporal dependencies and overlook the complementary relationship between temporal pose heatmaps and visual features. To address these limitations, we introduce STDPose, a novel framework that enhances human pose estimation by learning spatiotemporal dynamics in sparsely-labeled videos. STDPose incorporates two key innovations: 1) A novel Dynamic-Aware Mask to capture long-range motion context, allowing for a nuanced understanding of pose changes. 2) A system for encoding and aggregating spatiotemporal representations and motion dynamics to effectively model spatiotemporal relationships, improving the accuracy and robustness of pose estimation. STDPose establishes a new performance benchmark for both video pose propagation (i.e., propagating pose annotations from labeled frames to unlabeled frames) and pose estimation tasks, across three large-scale evaluation datasets. Additionally, utilizing pseudo-labels generated by pose propagation, STDPose achieves competitive performance with only 26.7% labeled data. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Temporal Gated Face Alignment Network for Camera-Based Physiological Sensing

The remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) technique enables the estimation of vital signs such as heart rate by analyzing pulse-induced subtle skin color variation from facial videos. Robustly deriving cardiac pulse information with head motion (\eg, rotation and swings) interference, remains a critical challenge, as it inevitably introduces complex noise disturbances such as facial geometric deformation and head motions. Most existing approaches primarily focus on how to extract the weak pulse signals, overlooking the detrimental effects induced by such noises. In response to this, we propose a Temporal Gated Face Alignment Network (TGFAN) to adaptively counteract motion noise in long-term video sequences. As key modules in TGFAN, the bidirectional temporal face alignment block first captures inter-frame motion discrepancies and achieves temporal alignment, and then extracts motion-robust pulse features by spatiotemporal convolution. Furthermore, we also propose a temporal gating mechanism, which can dynamically guide motion-disturbed segments for face alignment to alleviate local temporal interference. Experimental evaluations on four public datasets demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed model under both intra-dataset and cross-dataset tests. Early classification of time series aims to accurately predict the class label of a time series as early as possible, which is significant but challenging in many time-sensitive applications. Existing early classification methods hold a basic closed-world assumption that the classifier must have seen the classes of test samples. However, new samples that do not belong to any trained class may appear in the real world. In this paper, we first address the early classification in an open world and design two detectors to identify which known class or unknown class a sample belongs to. Specifically, based on the observed data, an early known-class detector is designed to determine the known-class confidence and an early unknown-class detector is designed to determine the unknown-class confidence according to the Minimum Reliable Length (MRL) and the Weibull distribution of each class. Experimental results evaluated on real-world datasets demonstrate that the proposed model can identify samples of unknown and known classes accurately and early.

SP3: Enhancing Structured Pruning via PCA Projection

Structured pruning is a widely used technique for reducing the size of pre-trained language models (PLMs), but current methods often overlook the potential of compressing the hidden dimension (d) in PLMs, a dimension critical to model size and efficiency. This paper introduces a novel structured pruning approach, Structured Pruning with PCA Projection (SP3), targeting the effective reduction of d by projecting features into a space defined by principal components before masking. Extensive experiments on benchmarks (GLUE and SQuAD) show that SP3 can reduce d by 70%, compress 94% of the BERTbase model, and maintain over 96% accuracy and outperform other methods that compress d by 6% in accuracy at the same compression ratio. SP3 has also proven effective with other models, including OPT and Llama. Our data and code are available at ours repo. © 2023, CC BY.

The superiority of graph contrastive learning (GCL) has prompted its application to anomaly detection tasks for more powerful risk warning systems. Unfortunately, existing GCL-based models tend to excessively prioritize overall detection performance while neglecting robustness to structural imbalance, which can be problematic for many real-world networks following power-law degree distributions. Particularly, GCL-based methods may fail to capture tail anomalies (abnormal nodes with low degrees). This raises concerns about the security and robustness of current anomaly detection algorithms and therefore hinders their applicability in a variety of realistic high-risk scenarios. To the best of our knowledge, research on the robustness of graph anomaly detection to structural imbalance has received little scrutiny. To address the above issues, this paper presents a novel GCL-based framework named AD-GCL. It devises the neighbor pruning strategy to filter noisy edges for head nodes and facilitate the detection of genuine tail nodes by aligning from head nodes to forged tail nodes. Moreover, AD-GCL actively explores potential neighbors to enlarge the receptive field of tail nodes through anomaly-guided neighbor completion. We further introduce intra- and inter-view consistency loss of the original and augmentation graph for enhanced representation. The performance evaluation of the whole, head, and tail nodes on multiple datasets validates the comprehensive superiority of the proposed AD-GCL in detecting both head anomalies and tail anomalies. Out-of-Distribution Generalization on Graphs via Progressive Inference

The development and evaluation of graph neural networks (GNNs) generally follow the independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) assumption. Yet this assumption is often untenable in practice due to the uncontrollable data generation mechanism. In particular, when the data distribution shows a significant shift, most GNNs would fail to produce reliable predictions and may even make decisions randomly. One of the most promising solutions to improve the model generalization is to pick out causal invariant parts in the input graph. Nonetheless, we observe a significant distribution gap between the causal parts learned by existing methods and the ground-truth, leading to undesirable performance. In response to the above issues, this paper presents GPro, a model that learns graph causal invariance with progressive inference. Specifically, the complicated graph causal invariant learning is decomposed into multiple intermediate inference steps from easy to hard, and the perception of GPro is continuously strengthened through a progressive inference process to extract causal features that are stable to distribution shifts. We also enlarge the training distribution by creating counterfactual samples to enhance the capability of the GPro in capturing the causal invariant parts. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed GPro outperforms the state-of-the-art methods by 4.91% on average. In industry 4.0/5.0, Smart manufacturing systems are typically complex systems that can be adjusted to deal with demand fluctuation through reconfigurable software/hardware. The emergence of digital twin as enabler technology can promote the operation efficiency of smart manufacturing systems. However, the modelling processes of digital twin of smart manufacturing systems is inefficient due to their complicated structures in general. Besides, the frequent reconfiguration of smart manufacturing systems and the differentiation among smart manufacturing systems will increase the burden of digital twin modelling. Therefore, a reconfigurable modelling method for digital twin of smart manufacturing systems is proposed in this paper. First, a reconfigurable modelling framework based on open architecture is proposed to provide basic model scenario for digital twin of smart manufacturing systems. Second, the reconfiguration of digital twin is elaborated from three dimensions, including reconfigurable virtual model, reconfigurable mapping, and reconfigurable scene. Sentence semantic matching requires an agent to determine the semantic relation between two sentences, where much recent progress has been made by advancement of representation learning techniques and inspiration of human behaviors. Among all these methods, attention mechanism plays an essential role by selecting important parts effectively. However, current attention methods either focus on all the important parts in a static way or only select one important part at one attention step dynamically, which leaves a large space for further improvement. To this end, in this paper, we design a novel Dynamic Gaussian Attention Network (DGA-Net) to combine the advantages of current static and dynamic attention methods. More specifically, we first leverage pre-trained language model to encode the input sentences and construct semantic representations from a global perspective. Then, we develop a Dynamic Gaussian Attention (DGA) to dynamically capture the important parts and corresponding local contexts from a detailed perspective. Finally, we combine the global information and detailed local information together to decide the semantic relation of sentences comprehensively and precisely. Extensive experiments on two popular sentence semantic matching tasks demonstrate that our proposed DGA-Net is effective in improving the ability of attention mechanism. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

DRAG: Dynamic Region-Aware GCN for Privacy-Leaking Image Detection

The daily practice of sharing images on social media raises a severe issue about privacy leakage. To address the issue, privacy-leaking image detection is studied recently, with the goal to automatically identify images that may leak privacy. Recent advance on this task benefits from focusing on crucial objects via pretrained object detectors and modeling their correlation. However, these methods have two limitations: 1) they neglect other important elements like scenes, textures, and objects beyond the capacity of pretrained object detectors;2) the correlation among objects is fixed, but a fixed correlation is not appropriate for all the images. To overcome the limitations, we propose the Dynamic Region-Aware Graph Convolutional Network (DRAG) that dynamically finds out crucial regions including objects and other important elements, and models their correlation adaptively for each input image. To find out crucial regions, we cluster spatially-correlated feature channels into several region-aware feature maps. Further, we dynamically model the correlation with the self-attention mechanism and explore the interaction among the regions with a graph convolutional network. The DRAG achieved an accuracy of 87% on the largest dataset for privacy-leaking image detection, which is 10 percentage points higher than the state of the art. The further case study demonstrates that it found out crucial regions containing not only objects but other important elements like textures.
