In this work, we address the challenging task of Generalized Referring Expression Comprehension (GREC). Compared to the classic Referring Expression Comprehension (REC) that focuses on single-target expressions, GREC extends the scope to a more practical setting by further encompassing notarget and multi-target expressions. Existing REC methods face challenges in handling the complex cases encountered in GREC, primarily due to their fixed output and limitations in multi-modal representations. To address these issues, we propose a Hierarchical Alignment-enhanced Adaptive Grounding Network (HieA2G) for GREC, which can flexibly deal with various types of referring expressions. First, a Hierarchical Multi-modal Semantic Alignment (HMSA) module is proposed to incorporate three levels of alignments, including word-object, phrase-object, and text-image alignment. It enables hierarchical cross-modal interactions across multiple levels to achieve comprehensive and robust multi-modal understanding, greatly enhancing grounding ability for complex cases. Then, to address the varying number of target objects in GREC, we introduce an Adaptive Grounding Counter (AGC) to dynamically determine the number of output targets. Additionally, an auxiliary contrastive loss is employed in AGC to enhance object-counting ability by pulling in multi-modal features with the same counting and pushing away those with different counting. Extensive experimental results show that HieA2G achieves new state-of-the-art performance on the challenging GREC task and also the other 4 tasks, including REC, Phrase Grounding, Referring Expression Segmentation (RES), and Generalized Referring Expression Segmentation (GRES), demonstrating the remarkable superiority and generalizability of the proposed HieA2G. LEGNN: A Label Ensemble Perspective for Training a Label-Noise-Resistant GNN with Reduced Complexity

Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have been widely employed for semi-supervised node classification tasks on graphs. However, the performance of GNNs is significantly affected by label noise, that is, a small amount of incorrectly labeled nodes can substantially misguide model training. Mainstream solutions define node classification with label noise (NCLN) as a reliable labeling task, often introducing node similarity with quadratic computational complexity to more accurately assess label reliability. To this end, in this paper, we introduce the Label Ensemble Graph Neural Network (LEGNN), a lower complexity method for robust GNNs training against label noise. LEGNN reframes NCLN as a label ensemble task, gathering informative multiple labels instead of constructing a single reliable label, avoiding high-complexity computations for reliability assessment. Specifically, LEGNN conducts a two-step process: bootstrapping neighboring contexts and robust learning with gathered multiple labels. In the former step, we apply random neighbor masks for each node and gather the predicted labels as a high-probability label set. This mitigates the impact of inaccurately labeled neighbors and diversifies the label set. In the latter step, we utilize a partial label learning based strategy to aggregate the high-probability label information for model training. Additionally, we symmetrically gather a low-probability label set to counteract potential noise from the bootstrapped high-probability label set. Extensive experiments on six datasets demonstrate that LEGNN achieves outstanding performance while ensuring efficiency. A Novel Local Search Algorithm Based on Connectivity Method and Vertex Penalty Mechanism for Minimum Weighted Connected Dominating Set Problem

The minimum weighted connected dominating set problem is a classical NP-hard problem with wide applications in practice. In this paper, an efficient local search algorithm is proposed to solve this problem. In this algorithm, firstly, an initial solution construction method based on greedy randomized adaptive strategy is adopted, which can balance the quality and the diversity of the initial solutions. Second, two new scoring functions, Ascore and Cscore, are proposed to increase the diversity of deleted vertices. Third, a new connectivity method is proposed so that the algorithm no longer relies on the shortest path between two connected components. Fourth, a vertex penalty mechanism is introduced, which helps the algorithm to jump out of the local optimum effectively. Fifth, two scoring functions, Ascore and Cscore, are combined with the vertex penalty mechanism to propose an effective vertex selection method, which helps the algorithm to select suitable vertices to be added to or removed from the current candidate solution. Finally, the propsoed local search algorithm is compared with seven state-of-the-art algorithms on three types of benchmark instances. The experimental results show that the algorithm exhibits better performance on these three types of classical benchmark instances. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have significantly advanced computer vision tasks, but their increasing complexity poses challenges for efficient inference, particularly on resource-constrained devices. We present DualConvNet, a novel CNN architecture that enhances inference efficiency through two key innovations: compressed convolutions and reparameterization. Compressed convolutions reduce computational complexity by selectively processing input channel subsets during both training and inference. For inference, we introduce a reparameterization technique that merges the multi-branch structure into a single, efficient operation, significantly improving speed. Experiments on CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, and ImageNet-1k demonstrate DualConvNet’s effectiveness, consistently outperforming state-of-the-art models in both accuracy and inference speed. On the COCO dataset, DualConvNet shows competitive accuracy in object detection and instance segmentation tasks while substantially reducing GPU latency. Ablation studies validate the impact of our dual-strategy approach, revealing significant improvements in both accuracy and computational efficiency compared to alternative designs. These results demonstrate DualConvNet’s effectiveness in improving inference efficiency while maintaining high accuracy across various tasks and datasets, making it particularly suitable for real-time applications in resource-constrained scenarios.

The traditional association rule representation method has no way to show the essential relationship between concepts and lacks understanding of the concept level. Concept lattice is a kind of data structure which can show the relationship between concepts, concept lattice also has unique advantages in the visualization and discovery of potential knowledge of association rules. In this paper, a visualization algorithm of association rules based on concept lattice is proposed. The algorithm visually displays the association rules extracted from concept lattice. Finally, this article combines the chronic disease record data of a certain hospital to analyze and visualize the association rules. The implementation results show that the visualization method has good effects in knowledge analysis and data display. © 2020 ACM.

Taking a military operation as an example, this paper makes an in-depth study of what tactics a single UAV should adopt when facing the interception of multiple enemy UAV groups. According to the analysis of the impact diagram, the aerial range of the UAV standoff defines a threat area, that is, when the UAV arrives at the threat area, it needs to adopt a strategy for penetration, or it will be intercepted. The strategy adopted by UAV in the threat area is analyzed, and the decision control method is made. © 2020 ACM.

In opportunistic networks, the uneven energy consumption of nodes and the polarization of cache utilization are important factors that impact network sustainability and overall performance. To address these issues, this paper proposes a multi-objective optimization energy-balanced routing strategy for opportunistic networks based on adaptive non-dominated sorting algorithm (ANMOR). The strategy aims to maximize the forwarding capability of nodes while achieving energy balance. The algorithm can find all Pareto-optimal solutions in the entire search space, which represent the trade-off relationships between different objectives and can provide a range of feasible solutions for routing. Experimental results show that this strategy can significantly improve the energy balance and cache utilization of opportunistic networks, enhance network performance, and prolong network lifetime. © 2023, The Authors. Recent advances in single image super-resolution (SISR) have achieved remarkable performance through deep learning. However, the high computational cost hinders the deployment of SISR models on edge devices. Instead of proposing new SISR models, a new trend is emerging to improve network efficiency by reducing parameters, FLOPs, and inference time through slight modifications to the original models. However, recent methods usually focus on reducing only one of three metrics, i.e., FLOPs, parameters and inference time, which inevitably increases the other two metrics. In this paper, we propose a novel Adaptive Student Inference Network (ASIN) on popular SISR models, which aims at reducing FLOPs and inference time while maintaining the number of parameters and restoring clearer high-resolution images. Specifically, our ASIN divides a SISR model into three components (head, body and tail) and adopts various strategies for each part. For head and tail parts, to ensure the restored images contain more detailed information, a novel auxiliary Enhanced Teacher Network (ETNet) is designed, which is trained with the ground-truth images to obtain more prior knowledge to guide student network to extract more accurate textures using a new knowledge distillation method. For the body part, owing to the varying difficulties of the reconstructions in different regions, we propose an Adaptive Depth Predicted Module (ADPM) to dynamically shorten average depth of network to reduce the computational cost of overall network. Extensive experiments on two datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and state-of-the-art performance of our ASIN compared to its counterparts.

The K-Step H Indices in Citation Networks at the Paper, Author, and Institution Levels

From the viewpoint of high-generation citation networks, h indices can be extended to global metrics at both basic and aggregated levels. To accomplish this, three types of networks are designed: the paper-paper network, the author-paper-paper network, and the institution-paper-paper network. The k-step h index is then proposed at the level of papers, authors, and institutions, respectively. Through a comprehensive empirical study based on the APS dataset, it is found that the k-step h index extends the depth and dimensionality of the Hirsh core, allowing for more global information. The consistency and convergent validity of the k-step h indices are quantitatively assessed. The results indicate that the k-step h index demonstrates a high degree of consistency and focuses on the potential for further research, and is capable of measuring the long-term reputation rather than short-term popularity. The convergent validity of the k-step h indices is rigorously tested using benchmark examples such as Nobel laureates and their publications, and they demonstrate superior performance in identifying seminal papers and prominent scientists compared to traditional metrics at the paper and author levels. The k-step h index also excels in ranking institutions, offering a promising new approach for evaluating the impact and influence of scientific entities at both the basic and aggregate levels.
