Chimera states in spatiotemporal dynamical systems have been investigated in physical, chemical, and biological systems, and have been shown to be robust against random perturbations. How do chimera states achieve their robustness? We uncover a self-adaptation behavior by which, upon a spatially localized perturbation, the coherent component of the chimera state spontaneously drifts to an optimal location as far away from the perturbation as possible, exposing only its incoherent component to the perturbation to minimize the disturbance. A systematic numerical analysis of the evolution of the spatiotemporal pattern of the chimera state towards the optimal stable state reveals an exponential relaxation process independent of the spatial location of the perturbation, implying that its effects can be modeled as restoring and damping forces in a mechanical system and enabling the articulation of a phenomenological model. Not only is the model able to reproduce the numerical results, it can also predict the trajectory of drifting. Our finding is striking as it reveals that, inherently, chimera states possess a kind of “intelligence” in achieving robustness through self-adaptation. The behavior can be exploited for the controlled generation of chimera states with their coherent component placed in any desired spatial region of the system.

A smooth double proximal primal-dual algorithm for a class of distributed nonsmooth optimization problem

This technical note studies a class of distributed nonsmooth convex consensus optimization problem. The cost function is a summation of local cost functions which are convex but nonsmooth. Each of the local cost functions consists of a twice differentiable (smooth) convex function and two lower semi-continuous (nonsmooth) convex functions. We call this problem as single-smooth plus double-nonsmooth (SSDN) problem. Under mild conditions, we propose a distributed double proximal primal-dual optimization algorithm. The double proximal operator is designed to deal with the difficulty caused by the unproximable property of the summation of those two nonsmooth functions. Besides, it can also guarantee that the proposed algorithm is locally Lipschitz continuous. An auxiliary variable in the double proximal operator is introduced to estimate the subgradient of the second nonsmooth function. Theoretically, we conduct the convergence analysis by employing Lyapunov stability theory. It shows that the proposed algorithm can make the states achieve consensus at the optimal point. In the end, nontrivial simulations are presented and the results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Based on the analysis of the Cusp magnetic field suppression convection principle, the simulation model of superconducting Cusp magnetic field is built by the finite element method. In the case of satisfying the magnetic field strength of the crucible wall and giving the excitation current, the number of layers of the superconducting coil is calculated by using the established model. The influence of coil spacing, thickness of shielding thickness, horizontal distance between coil and shielding thickness and longitudinal distance on magnetic induction strength, horizontal distance and longitudinal distance between coil and the shielding are analyzed under the condition that the number of superconducting coils is constant. The influence of the force on the coil, the influence of the thickness of the shielding body on the magnetic leakage strength of the magnetic field. The simulation results show that the optimized Cusp magnetic field structure parameters can be used in the actual design.

Bifurcation and stability analysis for a fractional-order gene regulatory networks with time delay is researched. Firstly, taking time delay as the bifurcation parameter, the Hopf bifurcation and stability conditions are established. Finally, a numerical example verifies the theoretical conclusion. It is showed that time delay can heavily effect the dynamics of the system and each order has a major influence on the creation of bifurcation simultaneously. © ISCIIA and ITCA 2018 - 8th International Symposium on Computational Intelligence and Industrial Applications and 12th China-Japan International Workshop on Information Technology and control Application.

Effective approach for outdoor obstacle detection by clustering LIDAR data context

A method of environment mapping using laser-based light detection and ranging （LIDAR） is proposed in this paper. This method not only has a good detection performance in a wide range of detection angles, but also facilitates the detection of dynamic and hollowed-out obstacles. Essentially using this method, an improved clustering algorithm based on fast search and discovery of density peaks （CBFD） is presented to extract various obstacles in the environment map. By comparing with other cluster algorithms, CBFD can obtain a favorable number of clusterings automatically. Furthermore, the experiments show that CBFD is better and more robust in functionality and performance than the K-means and iterative self-organizing data analysis techniques algorithm （ISODATA）.

The annealing furnace is an important equipment for annealing in the production process of cold rolled strip steel. The temperature accuracy of the steel coil is directly affected the production quality of the steel plate. In the annealing furnace temperature control system, strip temperature control is mainly decided by various furnace annealing furnace gas flow in the area, so setting up a precise model between gas flow and temperature has become an important problem of the control system of annealing furnace. In this paper, SVM is applied to the prediction model of the gas flow in the annealing furnace since it’s suitable for nonlinear and high dimensional problems as a machine learning method. In view of that the choice of C, G and the model parameters of the SVM directly affect the prediction precision of the model, this paper uses GA to optimize these two parameters. Finally, we use the data of field production as training and testing samples to establish and verify the model. The experimental results showed that the established model well achieved the requirements of the accuracy of the target.

We developed and validated a small, easy to use and cost-effective augmented marker-based hybrid navigation system for peri-acetabular osteotomy (PAO) surgery. The hybrid system consists of a tracking unit directly placed on the patient's pelvis, an augmented marker with an integrated inertial measurement unit (IMU) attached to the patient's acetabular fragment and the host computer. The tracking unit sends a live video stream of the marker to the host computer where the marker's pose is estimated. The augmented marker with the IMU sends its pose estimate to the host computer where we apply sensor fusion to compute the final marker pose estimate. The host computer then tracks the orientation of the acetabular fragment during peri-acetabular osteotomy surgery. Anatomy registration is done using a previously developed registration device. A Kalman filter-based sensor fusion was added to complete the system. A plastic bone study was performed for validation between an optical tracking-based navigation system and our proposed system. Mean absolute difference for inclination and anteversion was 1.63 degrees and 1.55 degrees, respectively. The results show that our system is able to accurately measure the orientation of the acetabular fragment.

In this paper, the adaptive robust control (ARC) algorithm is proposed for tracking control of the electric cylinder position. According to the analysis of the working principle of the electric cylinder servo system, the model of the system is established on the modified Lugre friction model, and single observer is designed for calculating friction as well. Then the ARC controller and adaptive law are designed for on-line parameters estimation, frictional compensation and the suppression external disturbance. Through the Lyapunov approach, the stability of this system can be obtained in this work. The simulation result shows that ARC can suppresses external disturbances effectively and realize real-time online parameter estimation. © 2017 Technical Committee on control Theory, CAA.

The invariance of the Lyapunov exponent of a chaotic signal as it propagates along a wireless transmission channel provides a theoretical base for the application of chaos in wireless communication. In additive Gaussian channel, the chaotic signal is proved to be the optimal coherent communication waveform in the sense of using the very simple matched filter to obtain the maximum signal-to-noise ratio. The properties of chaos can be used to reduce simply and effectively the Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) and to achieve low bit error rate in the wireless communication system. However, chaotic signals need very wide bandwidth to be transmitted in the practical channel, which is difficult for the practical transducer or antenna to convert such a broad band signal. To solve this problem, in this work, the chaotic signal is applied to a radio-wave communication system, and the corresponding coding and decoding algorithms are proposed. A hybrid chaotic system is used as the pulse-shaping filter to obtain the baseband signal, and the corresponding matched filter is used at the receiver, instead of the conventional low-pass filter, to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio. At the same time, the symbol judgment threshold determined by the chaos property is used to reduce the Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) effect. Simulations and virtual channel experiments show that the radio-wave communication system using chaos obtains lower bit error rate in the multi-path transmission channel compared with the traditional radio-wave communication system using Binary Phase Shift keying (BPSK) modulation technology and channel equalization.
