In content-centric networking, the schemes of innetwork caching can affect the performance of the whole network. Existing schemes lack of the global view, which results in inefficient caches. In this paper, we aim to analyze the real-time distribution of contents among caches from multiple perspectives. This paper proposes TCBRP, a scheme that analyzes caching tendency of various contents in reverse path, based on centrality of nodes, popularity of contents and replacement rate of nodes, to cache in-network contents. This scheme also has decent scalability and can be expended conveniently. The experimental results reflect that TCBRP report savings in average hops and balance cache hit rate, compared with BetwRep and LCE.

In large-scale asynchronous distributed virtual environments(DVEs), one of the difficult problems is to deliver the concurrent events in a consistent order at each node. Generally, the previous consistency control approaches can be classified into two categories: causal order and time stamped order. However, causal order approaches can merely preserve the cause-effect relation of events and time stamped order approaches seem intrinsically complex to be used in serverless large-scale asynchronous DVEs. In this paper, we proposed a novel distributed algorithm to identify the concurrent events and preserve the consistent order delivery of them at different nodes. Simulation studies are also carried out to compare the performance of this algorithm with that of the previous ones. The results show that the new algorithm can effectively deliver the concurrent events in consistent order at each node and is more efficient than the previous algorithms in large-scale asynchronous DVEs. © 2010 IEEE.

Unsupervised Learning-based Depth Estimation aided Visual SLAM Approach

Existing visual-based SLAM systems mainly utilize the three-dimensional environmental depth information from RGB-D cameras to complete the robotic synchronization localization and map construction task. However, the RGB-D camera maintains a limited range for working and is hard to accurately measure the depth information in a far distance. Besides, the RGB-D camera will easily be influenced by strong lighting and other external factors, which will lead to a poor accuracy on the acquired environmental depth information. Recently, deep learning technologies have achieved great success in the visual SLAM area, which can directly learn high-level features from the visual inputs and improve the estimation accuracy of the depth information. Therefore, deep learning technologies maintain the potential to extend the source of the depth information and improve the performance of the SLAM system. However, the existing deep learning-based methods are mainly supervised and require a large amount of ground-truth depth data, which is hard to acquire because of the realistic constraints. In this paper, we first present an unsupervised learning framework, which not only uses image reconstruction for supervising but also exploits the pose estimation method to enhance the supervised signal and add training constraints for the task of monocular depth and camera motion estimation. Furthermore, we successfully exploit our unsupervised learning framework to assist the traditional ORB-SLAM system when the initialization module of ORB-SLAM method could not match enough features. Qualitative and quantitative experiments have shown that our unsupervised learning framework performs the depth estimation task comparably to the supervised methods and outperforms the previous state-of-the-art approach by 13.5% on KITTI dataset. Multi-island single electron transistor (MISET) is a kind of single electron transistor (SET), which has advantages of the room temperature operating. A novel semi-empirical compact model for MISET is proposed. The new approach combines the orthodox theory of single electron tunneling for single Coulomb island and a novel empirical analysis for a chain of Coulomb islands. The model is verified by the Monte-Carlo method in SIMON simulator, and is much faster than the traditional multi-island SET simulator, which has the advantages for the large scale multi-island SET circuit simulation.

NR-MPI: A non-stop and fault resilient MPI supporting programmer defined data backup and restore for E-scale super computing systems

Fault resilience has became a major issue for HPC systems, particularly, in the perspective of future E-scale systems, which will consist of millions of CPU cores and other components. MPI-level fault tolerant constructs, such as ULFM, are being proposed to support software level fault tolerance. However, there are few systematic evaluations by application programmers using benchmarks or pseudo applications. This paper proposes NR-MPI, a Non-stop and Fault Resilient MPI, supporting programmer defined data backup and restore. To help programmers write fault tolerant programs, NR-MPI provides a set of friendly programming interfaces and a state transition diagram for data backup and restore. This paper focuses on design, implementation and evaluation of NR-MPI. Specifically,this paper puts emphases on failure detection in MPI library, friendly programming interface extending for NR-MPI and examples of fault tolerant programs based NRMPI. Furthermore, to support failure recovery of applications, NR-MPI implements data backup interfaces based on double in-memory checkpoint/*** conduct experiments with both NPB benchmarks and Sweep3D on TH supercomputer in NSCC-TJ. Experimental results show that NR-MPI based fault tolerant programs can recover from failures online without restarting, and the overhead is small even for applications with tens of thousands of cores. © The Authors 2016.

Increasing Internet business and computing footprint motivate server consolidation in data centers. Through virtualization technology, server consolidation can reduce physical hosts and provide scalable services. However, the ineffective memory usage among multiple virtual machines (VMs) becomes the bottleneck in server consolidation environment. Because of inaccurate memory usage estimate and the lack of memory resource managements, there is much service performance degradation in data centers, even though they have occupied a large amount of memory. In order to improve this scenario, we first introduce VM's memory division view and VM's free memory division view. Based on them, we propose a hierarchal memory service mechanism. We have designed and implemented the corresponding memory scheduling algorithm to enhance memory efficiency and achieve service level agreement. The benchmark test results show that our implementation can save 30% physical memory with 1% to 5% performance degradation. Based on Xen virtualization platform and balloon driver technology, our works actually bring dramatic benefits to commercial cloud computing center which is providing more than 2,000 VMs' services to cloud computing users.

Towards a multi-array architecture for accelerating large-scale matrix multiplication on FPGAs

Large-scale floating-point matrix multiplication is a fundamental kernel in many scientific and engineering applications. Most existing work only focus on accelerating matrix multiplication on FPGA by adopting a linear systolic array. This paper towards the extension of this architecture by proposing a scalable and highly configurable multi-array architecture. In addition, we propose a work-stealing scheme to ensure the equality in the workload partition among multiple linear arrays. Furthermore, an analytical model is developed to determine the optimal design parameters. Experiments on a real-life convolutional neural network (CNN) show that we can obtain the optimal extension of the linear array architecture. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Improved algorithm for reconstructing singular connection in multi-block CFD applications

An improved algorithm is proposed for the reconstruction of singular connectivity from the available pairwise connections during preprocessing phase. To evaluate the performance of the algorithm, an in-house computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code is used in which high-order finite-difference method for spatial discretization running on the Tianhe-1A supercomputer is employed. Test cases with a varied amount of mesh points are chosen, and the test results indicate that the improved singular connection reconstruction algorithm can achieve a speedup of 2000× at least when compared with the naive search method adopted in the former version of our code. Moreover, the parallel efficiency can benefit from the strategy of local communication based on the algorithm.

Memory-intensive applications often suffer from the poor performance of disk swapping when memory is inadequate. Remote memory sharing schemes, which provide a remote memory that is faster than the local hard disk, are able to improve the performance of such applications. Due to the limitation of being applicable within single clusters only, however, most of the previous remote memory mechanisms, such as the network memory scheme, fail to be extendable into a large scale, distributed, heterogeneous, and dynamic environment. In this work, we propose a service-oriented grid memory sharing scheme, distributed paging RAM grid (DPRG). We study the properties and criteria of large scale memory sharing, and then design major operations and optimizations to fit the usage of grid systems. We collect trace from our grid environment, and evaluate DPRG through comprehensive trace-driven simulations. Results show that DPRG significantly outperforms existing remote memory sharing schemes and supports grid computing applications effectively

Document-level event extraction task has achieved significant progress based on template generation methods. However, there is no reasonable regulation and restriction in the existing template-based generation methods, which results in the uncontrollability of the generation results. In some scenarios, model generates entities that do not belong to the input text, or generate template content repeatedly. It is determined by the nature of the extraction task and the generation task. To this end, we propose a controllable template generation event extraction model. According to the characteristics of template generation and event extraction tasks, the model devises copy mechanism, inhibition mechanism and rejection mechanism under the appropriately constructed template. Our model achieves state-of-the-art result on MUC-4 dataset, and finally through experimental analysis, it demonstrates the effectiveness of each mechanism we proposed.
