Process Monitoring Based on Performance-Triggered Scheme

In process monitoring, some specific performance indexes need to be paid attention to. Therefore, the performance-triggered process monitoring scheme is proposed. Different from the traditional process monitoring method, the process is considered normal if there is no apparent anomaly happens on the performance index. In order to predict the values of performance indexes that cannot be measured in real time, ridge regression is used. And, the regression coefficients are used to pick the most relevant process variables for subsequent modelling. In this scheme, after the performance index exceeds the control limit, the monitoring of the relevant process variables is triggered to determine whether the prediction is abnormal due to the occurrence of a fault. Then, dictionary learning method and Low rank representation (LRR) are used for feature extraction and construction of the statistic. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by a numerical example and the Tennessee Eastman (TE) process. © 2018

Dynamic CCA-Based Distributed Monitoring for Multiunit Non-Gaussian processes

Multiunit non-Gaussian dynamic processes are more popular, and monitoring of such processes becomes important. A dynamic canonical correlation analysis (DCCA)-based distributed monitoring approach for multiunit non-Gaussian dynamic processes is proposed. First, DCCA is performed between each local unit and the coupled units, which models both the auto-correlation and cross-correlation among units. Second, two fault detection residuals are generated for each local unit, through which both the process status and the type of a detected fault are identified. The proposed DCCA monitoring scheme achieves local unit monitoring by considering the variables from both the local unit and the coupled units, and therefore exhibits superiority. Applications on the Tennessee Eastman benchmark process are provided, through which the efficiency of the DCCA monitoring method is demonstrated. © 2018

In this paper, a velocity adaptive shuffled frog leaping bat algorithm(VASFLBA) is proposed to solve the problem that the bat algorithm(BA) is easy to fall into local optimum and a lack of deep local search ability. Firstly, the influence of the current stochastic local optimal solution on the search of the algorithm is considered. Two adaptive proportional regulation factors are introduced to balance global and local search. Then, the locally deep search ability is enhanced by using the meme transfer mechanism of shuffled frog leaping algorithm(SFLA). In addition, stochastic population competition is introduced to improve the global search ability and when the algorithm trapped in the local optimum, differential mutation operation is performed on the current global optimal bat so that the algorithm can jump out of the local optimum. The superiority of VASFLBA is verified by benchmark test functions. On this basis, VASFLBA is used to optimize the parameters of support vector machine(SVM) in intrusion detection of industrial control system(ICS), and the standard dataset for ICS intrusion detection is used for simulation. The results show that, compared with BA, SFLA and other algorithms, VASFLBA can better solve the problem of SVM parameters selection.

Study on co-cracking performance of different hydrocarbon mixture in a steam pyrolysis furnace

Co-cracking is a process where the mixtures of different hydrocarbon feedstocks are cracked in a steam pyrolysis furnace, and widely adopted in chemical industries. In this work, the simulations of the co-cracking of ethane and propane, and LPG and naphtha mixtures have been conducted, and the software packages of COILSIM1 D and Sim CO are used to account for the cracking process in a tube reactor. The effects of the mixing ratio, coil outlet temperature, and pressure on cracking performance have been discussed in detail. The co-cracking of ethane and propane mixture leads to a lower profitability than the cracking of single ethane or single propane. For naphtha, cracking with LPG leads to a higher profitability than single cracking of naphtha, and more LPG can produce a higher profitability.

Model predictive control for constrained uncertain piecewise linear systems

For constrained piecewise linear （PWL） systems, the possible existing model uncertainty will bring the difficulties to the design approaches of model predictive control （MPC） based on mixed integer programming （MIP）. This paper combines the robust method and hybrid method to design the MPC for PWL systems with structured uncertainty. For the proposed approach, as the system model is known at current time, a free control move is optimized to be the current control input. Meanwhile, the MPC controller uses a sequence of feedback control laws as the future control actions, where each feedback control law in the sequence corresponds to each partitions and the arbitrary switching technique is adopted to tackle all the possible switching. Furthermore, to reduce the online computational burden of MPC, the segmented design procedure is suggested by utilizing the characteristics of the proposed approach. Then, an offline design algorithm is proposed, and the reserved degree of freedom can be online used to optimize the control input with lower computational burden.

Event-based Distributed State Estimation over a WSN with False Data Injection Attack

In this paper, we consider the security issue in a wireless sensor network (WSN). We investigate distributed state estimation over a WSN under hostile attacks. To defend against malicious attacks, we propose a novel event-based mechanism, with which each sensor decides to send data to its neighboring sensors according to a data detection condition. When the detection condition is satisfied, the sensor is triggered at time step k, then it estimates the target state and sends its observation data to its neighbors; Otherwise, the sensor can only receive the data from its neighboring sensors. We provide a sufficient condition to guarantee the stability of the proposed estimator under the malicious attacks, and a numerical example to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed event-based estimator. © 2016

Coupling pinch analysis and rigorous process simulation for hydrogen networks with light hydrocarbon recovery

In refineries,some hydrogen-rich streams contain considerable light hydrocarbons that are important raw materials for the chemical *** hydrogen networks with light hydrocarbon recovery can enhance the reuse of both hydrogen and light *** work proposes an automated method for targeting hydrogen networks with light hydrocarbon recovery.A pinch-based algebraic method is improved to determine the minimum fresh hydrogen consumption and hydrogen sources fed into the light hydrocarbon recovery unit *** process simulation is conducted to determine the mass and energy balances of the light hydrocarbon recovery *** targeting procedures are developed through combination of the improved pinch method and rigorous process *** hybrid method is realized by coupling the Matlab and Aspen HYSYS platforms.A refinery hydrogen network is analyzed to illustrate application of the proposed *** integration of hydrogen network with light hydrocarbon recovery further reduces fresh hydrogen requirement by463.0 m^(3)·h^(-1) and recovers liquefied petroleum gas and gasoline of 1711.5 kg·h^(-1) and 643 kg·h^(-1),respectively.A payback period of 9.2 months indicates that investment in light hydrocarbon recovery is economically attractive.

An on-line constraint softening strategy to guarantee the feasibility of dynamic controller in double-layered MPC

A double-layered model predictive control(MPC), which is composed of a steady-state target calculation(SSTC)layer and a dynamic control layer, is a prevailing hierarchical structure in industrial process control. Based on the reason analysis of the dynamic controller infeasibility, an on-line constraints softening strategy is given. At first, a series of regions of attraction(ROA) of the dynamic controller is calculated according to the softened constraints;then a minimal ROA containing the current state is chosen and the corresponding softened constraint is adopted by the dynamic controller. Note that, the above measures are performed on-line because the centers of the above ROA are the steady-state targets calculated at each instant. The effectiveness of the presented strategy is illustrated through two examples.
