Metal nanogratings as one of the promising architectures for effective light trapping in organic photovoltaics (OPVs) have been actively studied over the past decade. Here we designed a novel metal nanowall grating with ultra-small period and ultra-high aspect-ratio as the back electrode of the OPV device. Such grating results in the strong hot spot effect in-between the neighboring nanowalls and the localized surface plasmon effect at the corners of nanowalls. These combined effects make the integrated absorption efficiency of light over the wavelength range from 400 to 650 nm in the active layer for the proposed structure, with respect to the equivalent planar structure, increases by 102% at TM polarization and by 36.5% at the TM/TE hybrid polarization, respectively. Moreover, it is noted that the hot spot effect in the proposed structure is more effective for ultra-thin active layers, which is very favorable for the exciton dissociation and charge collection. Therefore such a nanowall grating is expected to improve the overall performance of OPV devices. © 2014 Optical Society of America.

Online-programming IP design and implementation based on SoC

It is mainly proposed that the design and implementation for an online-programming IP core based on MV10, an SoC, which is an 8-bit MCU having passed the silicon verification with Global Foundry 0.35um mix-signal library in this thesis. The online-programming IP core can write BIN file into the on-chip SRAM, which is mainly controlled by erasing state machine and programming state machine, for program debugging with high accuracy-communication and error self-detection. The online-programming IP core proposed in this thesis can also be used in other SoCs. © Yang et al.

In the high-quality OLED micro-display, it is difficult to balance the faster frame refresh rate and higher resolution frame. In order to solve this problem, this paper propose a high-efficient PGL-SCS (Particle Gray Level-Scan Control Strategy) operator as the new scan strategy, which is based on the digital fractal scan strategy. This paper firstly introduces the theory model of PGL-SCS operator, which based on the relationship between sub-space code sequences and bit code sequences for different gray levels. Second, the theory performance of PGL-SCS is analysed. At last, the PGL-SCS operator is tested using the IP core and self-build HD OLED micro-display system. The experiments shows that the PGL-SCS operator can obtain 100% scan utilization and a significant decrease in the system clock frequency, compared with the traditional scan methods. With the proposed PGL-SCS there is no need of using high-speed IC circuits to realize the high-resolution and high-quality OLED micro-display system. © 2018 SID.

Unsupervised human height estimation from a single image

The single image containing only a human face not previously addressed in the literature is employed to estimate body height. The human face especially the facial vertical distribution possesses some important information which strongly correlates with the stature. The vertical proportions keep up relative constancy during the human growth. Only a few facial features such as the eyes, the lip and the chin are necessary to extract. The metric stature is estimated according to the statistical measurement sets and the facial vertical golden proportion. The estimated stature is tested with some individuals with only a single facial image. The performance of the proposed method is compared with some similar methods, which shows the proposal performs better. The experimental results highlight that the developed method estimates stature with high accuracy.

Adaptive Motion Segmentation for Changing Background

Segmentation of moving objects efficiently from video sequence is very important for many applications. Background subtraction is a common method typically used to segment moving objects in image sequences taken from a statistic camera. Some existing algorithms cannot adapt to changing circumstances and require manual calibration in terms of specification of parameters or some hypotheses for changing background. An adaptive motion segmentation method is developed according to motion variation and chromatic characteristics, which prevents undesired corruption of the background model and does not consider the adaptation coefficient. RGB color space is selected instead of introducing complex color models to segment moving objects and suppress shadows. A color ratio for 4-connected neighbors of a pixel and multi-scale wavelet transformation are combined to suppress shadows. The mentioned approach is scene-independent and high correct segmentation. It has been shown that the approach is robust and efficient to detect moving objects by experiments.

A novel blind separation algorithm based on double compression for single-channel JPEG permuted image was proposed in this paper. Firstly, the permuted image was compressed again, and then the primary compression factors were estimated by calculating the correlation coefficients of image blocks in pre and post recompression. Secondly, a 'mapping space' was constructed based on the primary compression factors estimated, according to different classification parameters in the mapping space, the activation region could be accurately detected and the permutation mixing matrixes were estimated. Lastly, the source image blocks could be completely recovered using permutation mixing matrix estimated. Simulation results show a high detection accuracy on the permuted image with uncompressed and without noised. Furthermore, the robustness against Gaussian noise and lossy JPEG compression of the algorithm were analyzed in this paper. ©2010 IEEE.

Non-reference virtual view quality evaluation of MVD

The quality of virtual view based on multi-view video （MVD） plus depth format is often evaluated by PSNR or subjectively judged. However, due to synthesizing arbitrary view images, the virtual view images mostly have no reference images and are only assessed using non-reference. Virtual view images synthesized by depth estimation reference software （DERS） and view synthesis reference software （VSRS） often accompanied with blockiness and other distortions on the edge. In addition, matching level for the depth map and the corresponding texture maps of left and right views also affects the quality of the virtual view. This paper compares the edge similarity of the depth and the corresponding texture maps which generate the intermediate virtual view and combined with the virtual view＇s blockiness which causing blur to evaluate the quality of the virtual view. Experiment results show that the proposed method can reflect the quality of the virtual view better.

Depth estimation is an active research area with the developing of stereo vision in recent years. It is one of the key technologies to resolve the large data of stereo vision communication. Now depth estimation still has some problems, such as occlusion, fuzzy edge, real-time processing, etc. Many algorithms have been proposed base on software, however the performance of the computer configurations limits the software processing speed. The other resolution is hardware design and the great developments of the digital signal processor （DSP）, and application specific integrated circuit （ASIC） and field programmable gate array （FPGA） provide the opportunity of flexible applications. In this work, by analyzing the procedures of depth estimation, the proper algorithms which can be used in hardware design to execute real-time depth estimation are proposed. The different methods of calibration, matching and post-processing are analyzed based on the hardware design requirements. At last some tests for the algorithm have been analyzed. The results show that the algorithms proposed for hardware design can provide credited depth map for further view synthesis and are suitable for hardware design.

Carbon nanotubes （CNTs） possess excellent electrical, thermal and mechanical properties. They are light in weight yet stronger than most of the other materials. They can be made both highly conductive and semi-conductive. They can be made from nano-sized small catalyst particles and extend to tens of millimeters long. Since CNTs emerged as a hot topic in the early 1990s, numerous research efforts have been spent on the study of the various properties of this new material. CNTs have been proposed as alternative materials of potential excellence in a lot of applications such as electronics, chemical sensors, mechanical sensors/actuators and composite materials, etc. This paper reviews the use of CNTs particularly in electronics manufacturing and packaging field. The progresses of three most important applications, including CNT-based thermal interface materials, CNT-based interconnections and CNT-based cooling devices are reviewed. The growth and post-growth processing of CNTs for specific applications are introduced and the tai- loring of CNTs properties, i.e., electrical resistivity, thermal conductivity and strength, etc., is discussed with regard to specific application requirement. As the semiconductor industry is still driven by the need of getting smaller and faster, CNTs and the related composite systems as emerging new materials are likely to provide the solution to the future challenges as we make more and more complex electronics devices and systems.

Controlling the corrosion rate is critical for practical applications of Mg-based alloys. In this work, we constructed a protective coating of hybrid polycaprolactone(H-PCL)/indocyanine green(ICG) on AZ31 Mg alloy,whose degradation rate was controlled by 808-nm nearinfrared(NIR) light irradiation. The corrosion behaviors of H-PCL/ICG coated Mg alloys were systematically investigated by potentiodynamic polarization tests, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) and hydrogen evolution experiments. The results disclosed that the H-PCL/ICG composite coating could effectively protect Mg alloy from corroding without NIR light irradiation. In contrast, under 808-nm NIR light irradiation, the corrosion resistance of this composite coating was decreased significantly, i.e., the corrosion current density(i_(corr))increasedfrom(8.81 ± 1.068) 9 10^(-8) to(1.22 ± 0.545) 9 10^(-6) A·cm^(-2). This is because the component of ICG in the coating was excited to produce heat locally, which triggered the glass transition temperature(T_(g)) of H-PCL in the coating, resulting in the motion of the molecular chain segment. Consequently, the electrolytes penetrated the coating and corroded the Mg substrate. In vitro biological experiment indicated that the synthesized coating exhibited good ***, these findings will provide a new strategy for designing novel photoresponsive coatings to remotely adjust the degradation rate of biodegradable metals for biomedical applications.
