Jetting is regarded as the next generation dispensing technology due to its features of non-contact and high precision dispensing. In this paper, we developed a jetting system for chip-on-glass package consisting of a jetting dispenser and a 3-axis movement system. The jetting dispenser applied a concept of modular design to construct four modules, which were nozzle, actuator, feeder and temperature controller. To analyze the factors influencing the fluid jetting, the proper fluid and structure models were set up. In the jetting dispenser, we used a solenoid valve (f >100Hz) to provide a high-speed movement for a needle. In a dispensing process, a piston drove a needle to move reciprocate, and its stroke was measured and controlled by a micrometer. A 3-axis system was a platform for the installation of jetting dispenser, and supported a reciprocating motion to follow the programmed route. ©2009 IEEE.

In the draft of multi-view coding (MVC), variable size motion estimation and disparity estimation are employed to select the best coding mode for each macroblock. These techniques achieve the highest possible coding efficiency, but they result in extremely large computation complexity which obstructs MVC from practical application. This paper proposes a fast mode size decision algorithm for MVC in inter-frame coding. It makes use of the mode distribution correlation between neighbor views to deduct the executions of unnecessary modes. Experimental results show that the proposed fast mode decision algorithm reduces the computational complexity significantly with negligible coding efficiency.

This paper proposes an efficient approach to extract salient objects in an image. A scale-invariant saliency map is first constructed based on a multi-resolution feature contrast calculation, meanwhile the image is segmented into homogenous regions using nonparametric kernel density estimation (NKDE). Then the region saliency ratio of each region combination to its complement is calculated in turn. Finally, salient objects are extracted by maximizing the region saliency ratio. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

A novel method is proposed to analyze pointing recognition based on a single un-calibrated camera. Face skin information is explicitly adopted as view quality in selecting the best view from multiple cameras. View measurement has been developed to overcome the effects from camera view directions and the distances between the user and the camera. No explicit constraints are set on the camera placement. Pointing users can move freely inside a wider interaction environment while pointing at some targets. The mentioned model does not constrain whether the pointing surface is flat or not. Experiments have highlighted that the proposed method is efficient and the performance of pointing recognition from the optimal viewpoint camera outperforms other cameras.

A compressed sensing (CS) based channel estima-tion algorithm is proposed by using the delay-Doppler sparsity of the fast fading channel. A compressive basis expansion chan-nel model with sparsity in both time and frequency domains is given. The pilots in accordance with a novel random pilot ma-trix in both time and frequency domains are sent to measure the delay-Doppler sparsity channel. The relatively nonzero channel coefficients are tracked by random pilots at a sampling rate signifi-cantly below the Nyquist rate. The sparsity channels are estimated from a very limited number of channel measurements by the basis pursuit algorithm. The proposed algorithm can effectively improve the channel estimation performance when the number of pilot sym-bols is reduced with improvement of throughput efficiency.

Rate control plays a very important role in video streaming applications. The currently adopted rate control scheme in the latest video coding standard H.264/AVC still results in a relatively large quality fluctuation especially for frames with higher motion activities. In this paper, we consider the characteristics of human visual system and incorporate a motion attention model to direct the rate control process. From the motion vector (MV) field at 4times4 block level, motion saliency maps are calculated on multi-scale MV fields and integrated to a whole motion saliency map highlighting the attention regions. In the frame and MB layer of rate control, the number of bits allocated to each frame and each MB is adjusted based on its motion saliency. More bits are allocated those frames and MBs with higher motion saliency to improve their qualities, and thus reduce the quality variation. Experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm can increase the average PSNR by 0.068 dB, and decreases the PSNR variation by 15.65%, with a negligible increase of computation less than 3%.

Hand gestures play a natural and intuitive communication mode for human dialogs. A novel method is proposed to analyze pointing gestures. Single un-calibrated camera is employed to determine the pointing target based on the best view selected from multiple cameras. Face skin information is explicitly adopted as view quality for selecting the best view. View measurement has been developed which overcomes the effects of camera view directions and the distances between the user and the camera. No explicit constraints are set on the camera placement. Pointing users can move freely inside a wider interaction environment while pointing at some targets. The mentioned model does not constrain whether the pointing surface is flat or not. During detecting pointing users from a clutter background, multi-scale wavelet features with outstanding local characteristics both in temporal and spatial fields are used which would not require some information necessary for existing methods in literature such as scene learning and training, manual calibration, and a priori hypothesis. Experiments have highlighted that the developed approach is efficient for natural non-wearable pointing recognition by comparison. © 2009 IEEE.

During the process of generation and transmission, images will be influenced by the performance of imaging system, quantization noise or some other actors. The image will appear some phenomenons like clarity decrease and low contrast. For the sake of improving the picture quality in OLED system, time sequence control logic and hardware of the whole OLED system were implemented based on the detailed analysis of OLED panel electrical characteristics and various gray scale scanning principles. Sub-field scanning working mode is adopted in the design. Gray scale is 64 and vertical sweep frequency is 60Hz∼*** is the core control device in the whole system, the DVI decoded signal is processed. The design realizes the real-time video display on OLED. The utilization of parameters regulated homomorphic filtering technology is studied to improve the quality of color image. At first, the high and low frequency parts are departed with the help of illumination reflectance *** the digital image is processed with approximate high-pass filter, the simplified filtering algorithm made a compromise solution between the complex of hardware implementation and image quality. In the end, by the frequency domain inverse transformation, images got enhanced. The experiment results show that the particular information extrudes and the whole visual effect is improved after the process. © 2009 SPIE.

Multiple cameras can be used to detect a certain object in a wide area so that users can freely move inside a wider interaction environment. One key problem is how to select the most appropriate camera with better view to perform a natural human-machine-interaction (HCI). An unsupervised scheme is developed for a best view selection. Face skin information is explicitly employed as view quality. The proposed view measurement has been defined which facilitates the system to select the most appropriate camera automatically. The proposal overcomes the effects of camera view directions and the distances between the user and the camera in selecting the best view. The approach is tested with different face databases and an actual interaction environment which shows that it is flexible and computational cost-effective. Experiments have highlighted that the mentioned method is robust and efficient when selecting the best view in a multi-camera system.
