Parallel exploration via negatively correlated search

Effective exploration is key to a successful search *** recently proposed negatively correlated search(NCS)tries to achieve this by coordinated parallel exploration,where a set of search processes are driven to be negatively correlated so that different promising areas of the search space can be visited *** successful applications of NCS,the negatively correlated search behaviors were mostly devised by intuition,while deeper(e.g.,mathematical)understanding is *** this paper,a more principled NCS,namely NCNES,is presented,showing that the parallel exploration is equivalent to a process of seeking probabilistic models that both lead to solutions of high quality and are distant from previous obtained probabilistic *** learning,for which exploration is of particular importance,are considered for empirical *** proposed NCNES is applied to directly train a deep convolution network with 1.7 million connection weights for playing Atari *** results show that the significant advantages of NCNES,especially on games with uncertain and delayed rewards,can be highly owed to the effective parallel exploration ability.

The advancement of autonomous technology makes electric-powered drones an excellent choice for flexible logistics services at the last mile delivery *** reach a balance between green transportation and competitive edge,the collaborative routing of drones in the air and trucks on the ground is increasingly invested in the next generation of delivery,where it is particularly reasonable to consider customer time windows and time-dependent travel times as two typical time-related factors in daily *** this paper,we propose the Vehicle Routing Problem with Drones under Time constraints(VRPD-T)and focus on the time constraints involved in realistic scenarios during the delivery.A mixed-integer linear programming model has been developed to minimize the total delivery completion ***,to overcome the limitations of standard solvers in handling large-scale complex issues,a space-time hybrid heuristic-based algorithm has been developed to effectively identify a high-quality *** numerical results produced from randomly generated instances demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Alloying/doping is a widely used technique for improving the electrical,mechanical,and optical properties of ***,this technology induces significant distortions in the lattice structure,mass distribution,and potential field,greatly enhancing phonon ***,we introduce the concept of alloying/doping path and employ crystal symmetry,lattice deformation,and electron distribution to characterize *** on this new concept,the phonon thermal transport behavior in alloyed/doped materials can be well designed,and along different alloying/doping paths,the difference in thermal conductivity can be up to 45 *** one hand,strategic alloying/doping that combines high crystal symmetry,large lattice contraction,and the same electron distribution suppresses phonon-phonon scattering phase space,induces phonon stiffening,and bolsters electronic structure symmetry,*** synergistic effects significantly improve thermal *** the other hand,random alloying/doping has a low symmetry,leading to the typical“U”shape of alloying/doping level-dependent thermal *** theory is corroborated in three-dimensional(3D)Si,2D MoS_(2),and quasi-1D TiS_(3),affirming its efficacy and broad applicability in controlling phonon transport.

Enhanced removal of phosphonates from aqueous solution using PMS/UV/hydrated zirconium oxide process

Traditional treatment processes cannot completely remove phosphonates in circulating cooling water by one-step method. Herein, we designed peroxymonosulfate/UV irradiation/hydrated zirconium oxide(PMS/UV/HZO) coupling process to enhance the phosphonates removal. In particular, nitrilotrismethylenephosphonic acid(NTMP) removal efficiency by PMS/UV/HZO process was much higher than that of PMS/UV process, UV/HZO process and other processes in comparison experiments. Specifically,almost 97.2% NTMP in water was degraded, and the total phosphorous(TP) reduced from 9.3 mg/L to 0.26 mg/L at pH 7 within 180 min. TP removal efficiency still reached above 90% after 5 cycles adsorptiondesorption of HZO. Moreover, Cl^(-), NO_(3)-and SO_(4)^(2-)ions all had negligible effect on NTMP removal. During the process, NTMP was first destroyed to form phosphates and other intermediates by the reactive oxygen species(ROS), then phosphates were in situ immobilized via HZO adsorption. Sulfate radical(SO_(4)^(·-))has been confirmed to be the major ROS in the reaction system by quenching experiment and electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR) characterization. And the excellent selective adsorption capacity of HZO for phosphate produced was attributed to the strong inner-sphere coordination between H_(2)PO_(4)-/HPO_(4)^(2-)and Zr-OH on the surface of HZO. These results suggest that PMS/UV/HZO process is a promising technique for enhanced phosphonates decontamination.

Distribution of antibiotic resistance genes and their association with bacteria and viruses in decentralized sewage treatment facilities

The distribution of antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs)has been intensively studied in large-scale wastewater treatment plants and livestock ***,small-scale decentralized sewage treatment facilities must also be explored due to their possible direct exposure to *** this study,six wastewater treatment facilities in developed rural areas in eastern China were investigated to understand their risks of spreading *** metagenomics and network analysis tools,ARGs and bacterial and viral communities were identified in the influent(INF)and effluent(EFF)*** dominant ARGs belonged to the bacitracin class,which are different from most of municipal wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs).The dominant hosts of ARGs are Acidovorax in bacterial communities and Prymnesiovirus in viral ***,a positive relationship was found between ARGs and *** ARGs significantly correlated with phages were all hosted by specific genera of bacteria,indicating that phages had contributed to the ARG’s proliferation in sewage treatment *** significant concern on the possible enhanced risks caused by bacteria,viruses and their related ARGs in decentralized sewage treatment facilities is necessary.

Interference-assisted energy harvesting short packet communications with hardware impairments

Radio frequency energy harvesting offers a promising solution to provide low power Internet of Things (IoT) devices with convenient and perpetual energy supply. In this work, we investigate the reliable performance of an energy-constrained transmitter communicating with a receiver over Nakagami-m channel, where the effects of transceiver hardware impairments and finite blocklength coding are jointly considered. Specifically, the communication link between the transmitter and receiver operates within the coverage of an existing wireless system, with radio frequency signal from the existing system serving as an energy signal for the transmitter while acting as an interference signal for the receiver. By utilizing the finite-blocklength information theory, we first derive average block error rate (BLER) and asymptotic average BLER in closed-form expressions, which enable us to quantify the extent of reliability loss. Then, we analyze effective throughput of the system, and determine the optimal blocklength that maximizes the effective throughput. Computer simulations are employed to validate the accuracy of our analytical findings, demonstrating the presence of an outage threshold solely due to hardware impairments. Furthermore, if transmission rate exceeds the outage threshold defined by the level of hardware impairments, reliable communication within the system under consideration cannot be achieved, regardless of the transmit signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). © 2024 The Authors

New Upper Solution Bounds of a Class of the Continuous Algebraic Riccati Equations and Their Application in Redundant Control Inputs Systems

In the redundant control inputs problems, the norm of the feedback matrix is smaller, the controlled system is better for control. Therefore, it is the key to solve these problems for studying upper and lower bounds of the symmetric positive definite solutions of the continuous algebra Riccati equations(CAREs) corresponding to the controlled systems. In this paper, we obtain a convergent matrix series as upper bound of the symmetric positive definite solution for a special class of the CAREs. It is the limit of monotonically decreasing upper bound sequence of the symmetric positive definite solution. We use numerous numerical experiments to illustrate that upper bounds obtained are better than the relevant results in the existing literature when the terms are sufficiently large. Moreover, we apply the main theoretical results to the related redundant control inputs systems. Under a wider range of conditions, a class of redundant control inputs problems is solved, and the recent relevant results are improved. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

An inverse design method for supercritical airfoil based on conditional generative models

Inverse design has long been an efficient and powerful design tool in the aircraft *** this paper,a novel inverse design method for supercritical airfoils is proposed based on generative models in deep learning.A Conditional Variational Auto Encoder(CVAE)and an integrated generative network CVAE-GAN that combines the CVAE with the Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Networks(WGAN),are conducted as generative *** are used to generate target wall Mach distributions for the inverse design that matches specified features,such as locations of suction peak,shock and aft *** and quantitative results show that both adopted generative models can generate diverse and realistic wall Mach number distributions satisfying the given *** CVAE-GAN model outperforms the CVAE model and achieves better reconstruction accuracies for all the samples in the ***,a deep neural network for nonlinear mapping is adopted to obtain the airfoil shape corresponding to the target wall Mach number *** performances of the designed deep neural network are fully demonstrated and a smoothness measurement is proposed to quantify small oscillations in the airfoil surface,proving the authenticity and accuracy of the generated airfoil shapes.
