The task of image-guided point cloud completion aims to leverage information from images to address uncertainty issues in the completion inference of point clouds. The key challenge in this setting lies in how to effectively combine features extracted from both modalities. Due to the large domain discrepancy between the image and point cloud, existing methods that use cross-modal attention to directly fuse features have increased attention on redundant information and noise from different modalities, resulting in poor feature fusion performance. Hence, by introducing multi-modal fusion transformers that use bottleneck tokens, we enabled point cloud feature to learn image feature through information bridges, leading to improved point cloud completion performance. Our method can not only benefit from RGB images, but also from sketches with less feature information but more emphasis on edge information. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed method enhances the quality of point cloud completion and outperforms other state-of-the-art methods. © 2023 IEEE.

Axially functionally graded (AFG) carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (CNTRC) emerges as a promising solution for tailoring the stiffness and strength of various beam-like structures. Applications range from optimizing the weight-to-strength ratio of airplane wings to fine-tuning the frequency of micro-beam sensors, and even alleviating stresses induced by centrifugal forces or temperature gradients in turbine blades. However, the challenge of solving variable coefficient partial differential equations (VCPDEs) arising from the axial material gradient limits conventional methods to numerical and simulation techniques. In this study, a novel perturbation approach (PA) customized for AFG-CNTRC is highlighted for solving the problem analytically, simply, and precisely. First, the vibration model of an AFG-CNTRC beam is established according to the Euler-Bernoulli theory (EBT). Second, the vibration governing equations are solved by the PA and the state space method (SSM) analytically. Finally, the adaptivity and accuracy of the PA are validated and the effects of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) distribution patterns are analyzed. It is found that increasing CNT content at either end will increase the natural frequency for symmetric boundary conditions (BCs). The frequency decreases with the degree of nonlinearity distribution of CNTs. The frequency under the C-F BC exhibits low sensitivity to parameter effects. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Recently, several real-world multi-objective optimization problem suites have been proposed to facilitate the evaluation of the performance of evolutionary multi-objective optimization (EMO) algorithms. In spite of the importance of using real-world problems to evaluate EMO algorithms, their characteristics are not well understood compared to artificial test problems. Thus, there is a need to examine and understand the challenges posed by these real-world problems. In this study, we attempt to explore the characteristics of the most recently proposed real-world application suite (i.e., RWA suite). Six EMO algorithms are evaluated on the RWA suite, including three classic algorithms and three recently-proposed algorithms. Based on the performance comparison results, we systematically analyze the RWA suite in terms of convergence and diversity difficulties.

Recently, the use of an unbounded external archive in the design of evolutionary multi-objective optimization (EMO) algorithms has received increasing attention. An important component in the use of an unbounded external archive is its subset selection method used to select a pre-specified number of solutions from the archive. One of the most commonly used subset selection method is distance-based subset selection (DSS) since it is very easy to calculate and can easily scale to many-objective optimization. However, the DSS's selection mechanism usually lead to a small hypervolume value for the selected subset even when the optimal subset with respect to the minimum distance among the selected solutions is obtained. In this paper, we propose a modification to the DSS algorithm by selecting a knee point as the first solution. The knee point is often a solution of interest to decision makers in the absence of preference information. Experimental results show that the inclusion of a knee point generally has a positive effect on improving the hypervolume value of the selected subset.

This paper uses a nonlinear longitudinal control method for distributed drive electric vehicles（DDEV） to solve the safety problem of DDEV when driving on snow-covered ***,an optimal slip control scheme based on tire force prediction is ***,use the Burckhardt tire model to draw μ-κ,curve,use the magic formula to draw F-κcurve,get the maximum longitudinal tire force that can be provided under different road types *** calculate the tire force required for stable driving of the vehicle,predict the state of the vehicle in *** paper aims at the situation that tire force is not saturated during the driving process of the vehicle,the lower layer uses the nonlinear model predictive control（NMPC）algorithm to design the optimal slip *** main purpose is to control the torque of the four wheels simultaneously so that the slip rate can follow the optimal value,thereby effectively preventing the wheels from over-slipping during driving or locking during braking,enhancing the maneuverability and stability of the vehicle in extreme ***,the dynamic simulation software CarSim is used for simulation verification under various working *** results show that the controller designed in this paper can effectively track the optimal slip value of each wheel,play a driving assistance function,and realize the multi-objective requirements of "safety-power-comfort".

Creating Ferroelectricity in Monoclinic (HfO2)1/(CeO2)1 Superlattices

Ferroelectricity in CMOS-compatible hafnia (HfO2) is crucial for the fabrication of high-integration nonvolatile memory devices. However, the capture of ferroelectricity in HfO2 requires the stabilization of thermodynamically metastable orthorhombic or rhombohedral phases, which entails the introduction of defects (e.g., dopants and vacancies) and pays the price of crystal imperfections, causing unpleasant wake-up and fatigue effects. Here, we report a theoretical strategy on the realization of robust ferroelectricity in HfO2-based ferroelectrics by designing a series of epitaxial (HfO2)1/(CeO2)1 superlattices. The designed ferroelectric superlattices are defects free, and most importantly, on the base of the thermodynamically stable monoclinic phase of HfO2. Consequently, this allows the creation of superior ferroelectric properties with an electric polarization >25 μC/cm2 and an ultralow polarization-switching energy barrier at ∼2.5 meV/atom. Our work may open an avenue toward the fabrication of high-performance HfO2-based ferroelectric devices.

Selective laser melting of nickel-titanium alloy(SLM-NiTi)can precisely control the size of the sample molding structure and has attracted extensive attention due to its special superelasticity and shape memory ***,the biological inertness and poor corrosion resistance of SLM-NiTi alloy limit their wide application as biomedical implant *** this study,polycaprolactone(PCL)coating was prepared on SLM-NiTi alloy by dipping and pulling method,and the effects of alkali heat pretreatment on the morphology,adhesion,corrosion resistance,long-term stability and biomineralisation of the PCL coatings were *** results showed that PCL coating can substan-tially improve the performance of SLM-NiTi alloy,and the PCL coating after alkali heat pretreatment has higher adhesion(increased from 1,747 to 2,498 mN)and lower corrosion current density(reduced by about an order of magnitude compared to PCL coating alone).In addition,the necessary stability,biomineralisation and biocompatibility ability of coatings were also further ***,the alkali heat pretreated PCL-coated SLM-NiTi alloy has good application prospects in implants due to its superior properties.

High-Order Interior Penalty Finite Element Methods for Fourth-Order Phase-Field Models in Fracture Analysis

This paper presents a novel approach for solving fourth-order phase-field models in brittle fracture mechanics using the Interior Penalty Finite Element Method (IP-FEM). The fourth-order model improves numerical stability and accuracy compared to traditional second-order phase-field models, particularly when simulating complex crack paths. The IP-FEM provides an efficient framework for discretizing these models, effectively handling nonconforming trial functions and complex boundary conditions. In this study, we leverage the FEALPy framework to implement a flexible computational tool that supports high-order IP-FEM discretizations. Our results show that as the polynomial order increases, the mesh dependence of the phase-field model decreases, offering improved accuracy and faster convergence. Additionally, we explore the trade-offs between computational cost and accuracy with varying polynomial orders and mesh sizes. The findings offer valuable insights for optimizing numerical simulations of brittle fracture in practical engineering applications. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Particle Swarm Optimization with Migration (MPSO) is proposed to solve the issue that PSO will encounter unbearable time cost problems when dealing with High-dimension, Expensive and Black-box objective function tasks. The Migration operator is inspired by the migration of Salmon. Salmon will start a dangerous journey from the ocean to the home rivers for reproduction. The process of the entire behavior is similar to the reduction and recovery of dimension. Therefore, we design the Migration operator where a pretrained Wasserstein Autoencoders (WAE) is applied to simulate the migration behavior to accelerate the process of evolution in PSO, and we use Least-Squares Regression in lower space to produce better generation. In comparison with famous baseline methods in some benchmark functions, MPSO converges faster and more accurately, which shows the great potential of migration operations.
