This paper proposes a sparse emission source microscopy (ESM) technique based on active machine learning to localize high-frequency electromagnetic interference (EMI) sources. The proposed method, which combines the query-by-committee (QBC) algorithm and a newly proposed entropy feedback (EF) technique, can significantly improve the efficiency of high-frequency EMI source location by reducing the number of scanning points. The results of simulation and measurement examples show that the proposed method is much more time-efficient compared with the full sampling method. Also, the method demonstrates a noticeable advantage over the uniform sampling and random sampling approaches, and has higher accuracy of EMI source location with the same number of sparse scanning samples.

Medical scene graph contributes to cognitive tasks such as question answering. An automatic medical scene graph generator can annotate medical images with scene graphs conveniently. An end-to-end model is proposed, which contains an automatic medical scene graph generator based on medical images and surgery records. The novel model can extract symptom information of the images from surgery records via name entity recognition then convert it into scene graphs. The content and format of the scene graph are pre-defined according to the features of the images. A medical scene graph (MSG) dataset is also produced. The dataset contains 116 scene graphs where each graph includes 6 to 30 entities. Experiments show that our model performs well on making scene graphs of CT coronary angiography. Significantly, the scene graphs have the type, state, location, and index of arteries. To verify the practicability of the MSG dataset, We construct an intelligent model that can generate key diagnostic results. In addition, our medical scene graph generator can be applied to other medical areas to annotate different kinds of medical images intelligently. And the MSG dataset can directly be used in other cognitive visual tasks. © 2021 IEEE.

Rapid urbanization and global warming significantly impact tidal dynamics in the Pearl River Estuary, China

Due to the dual impacts of anthropogenic disturbances and climate change, tidal hydrodynamics of estuaries have been intensively investigated for their potential to increase flood risk and devastate coastal habitats and human communities. Climate change leads to rises in sea levels, which can amplify regional tides and increase tidal ranges. This study takes the estuarine area of the Pearl River (PRE), one of the fastest-developed estuaries in China, as an example to explore the effects of land cover changes and sea level rise on tidal dynamics. Annual mean tidal levels were collected at 26 major hydrological stations from five major rivers/waterways. To better understand the temporal changes in tidal levels, we analyzed the trends and periodic patterns through linear regression and Complex Morlet wavelet analyses. For the main Pearl River outlet, where conversion of agricultural land to urban use had been primarily taking place, the tidal level changes were significantly affected by increased built-up areas and decreased cultivated land areas. On the other hand, in the middle to upper reaches of the Xi River and Shunde-Hengmen Waterway, we observed decreased tidal levels with decreases in the agricultural lands. No significant correlations were found between annual mean tidal levels and land cover changes downstream of the main rivers. Instead, the tidal level changes at locations close to the coastline were more related to sea level rise, with an average of 0.002 m per year increase. This study highlighted the importance of human activity and sea level rise impacts on tidal dynamics. A systematic understanding of the tidal changes in the estuary is expected to help enhance mechanisms of estuarine hydrology, which could serve as the basis for improving the management and practice of coastal regions in coping with climate change and estuary protection. © 2023

This survey comprehensively reviews the metrics for measuring the diversity of game scenarios, spotlighting the innovative use of procedural content generation and other fields as cornerstones for enriching player experiences through diverse game scenarios. By traversing a wide array of disciplines, from affective modeling and multi-agent systems to psychological studies, our research underscores the importance of diverse game scenarios in gameplay and education. Through a taxonomy of diversity metrics and evaluation methods, we aim to bridge the current gaps in literature and practice, offering insights into effective strategies for measuring and integrating diversity in game scenarios. Our analysis highlights the necessity for a unified taxonomy to aid developers and researchers in crafting more engaging and varied game worlds. This survey not only charts a path for future research in diverse game scenarios but also serves as a handbook for industry practitioners seeking to leverage diversity as a key component of game design and development. The workflow scheduling problem is a fundamental task in cloud computing. This paper addresses the challenge of workflow scheduling in dynamic and uncertain cloud environments, where computing resources may become inaccessible due to hardware or software failures. To tackle this challenge, we propose a novel algorithm called the Order Feature Guided Multi-Population (OFGMP) algorithm for dynamic workflow scheduling in cloud environments. The OFGMP algorithm utilizes a multi-population evolutionary framework, incorporating a knowledge-guided reproduction operator that leverages the order feature of solutions, as well as repair mechanisms to adapt to changing environmental conditions. Extensive experiments are conducted to validate the algorithm’s performance against existing dynamic scheduling approaches. The experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our proposed method over others on a number of test cases.

In this article,we derive the a posteriori error estimators for a class of steadystate Poisson-Nernst-Planck *** the gradient recovery operator,the upper and lower bounds of the a posteriori error estimators are established both for the electrostatic potential and *** is shown by theory and numerical experiments that the error estimators are reliable and the associated adaptive computation is efficient for the steady-state PNP systems.

Efficient traffic signal control is a cost-effective way to ease urban traffic congestion. Multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) has become a widely adopted method for optimizing traffic signal control (TSC). However, existing MARL-based methods often focus on a single optimization objective, lacking a comprehensive consideration of traffic efficiency, environmental pollution, and traffic safety. Simultaneously, these methods often fail to effectively capture the dynamic and complex interactions among agents in multi-intersection scenarios, which negatively impacts traffic efficiency. In this article, we propose a collaborative MARL-based method for multi-objective TSC, called CMRM. First, we introduce a multi-objective reward mechanism that integrates traffic efficiency, environmental impact, and safety to guide agents toward more comprehensive optimization. Second, we design a cooperation enhancement module (CEM) based on the graph attention mechanism to dynamically capture neighboring agents’ state information. This mitigates the partial observability problem in independent proximal policy optimization (IPPO) and enhances the model’s ability to capture dynamic and complex interactions among agents. Finally, we assess the performance of the proposed CMRM method using SUMO on two real traffic networks. Experimental results demonstrate that our method significantly improves traffic efficiency while reducing environmental pollution and enhancing traffic safety, compared to the best performing baseline, our method reduces CO2 emission by approximately 17.53% and 9.57%, and lowers vehicle collision risks by 44.39% and 42.85% in two different traffic networks. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Financial market simulation (FMS) serves as a promising tool for understanding market anomalies and underlying trading behaviors. To ensure high-fidelity simulations, it is crucial to calibrate the FMS model to generate data closely resembling the observed market data. Previous efforts primarily focused on calibrating merely the mid-price data, leading to essential information loss of the market activities and thus biasing the calibrated model. The Limit Order Book data (LOB) is the fundamental data that fully captures the market microstructure and is adopted by exchanges worldwide. However, LOB is not applicable to existing calibration objective functions due to its unique properties, including high dimensionality, differences in feature scales, and cross-feature constraints. This paper proposes an efficient Transformer-based autoencoder to explicitly learn the vectorized representations of LOB, addressing its unique challenges. The resulted latent vector, which captures the major information of LOB, can then be applied for calibration. Extensive experiments show that the learned latent representation preserves not only the non-linear auto-correlation in the temporal axis but also the precedence between successive price levels of LOB. Besides, we verify that the representation learning aligns with the downstream calibration tasks, making the first advancement in calibrating FMS on LOB. © 2024, CC BY.

Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) is a classical adaptive beamformer that theoretically ensures the distortionless transmission of signals in the target direction, which makes it popular in real applications. Its noise reduction performance actually depends on the accuracy of the noise and speech spatial covariance matrices (SCMs) estimation. Time-frequency masks are often used to compute these SCMs. However, most mask-based beamforming methods typically assume that the sources are stationary, ignoring the case of moving sources, which leads to performance degradation. In this paper, we propose an attention-based mechanism to calculate the speech and noise SCMs and then apply MVDR to obtain the enhanced speech. To fully incorporate spatial information, the inplace convolution operator and frequency-independent LSTM are applied to facilitate SCMs estimation. The model is optimized in an end-to-end manner. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms baselines with reduced computation and fewer parameters under various conditions.

Preparation and Strong Green Upconversion Luminescence of Ca9y(Vo4)7: Yb3+/Er3+ Phosphor

In the present work, the near-single green emission behavior of the UCL of Yb3+, Er3+ joint doped Ca9Y(VO4)7 was investigated. The lanthanide Yb3+/Er3+ ions co-doped with Ca9Y(VO4)7 were successfully produced by a solid phase method at high temperatures. XRD pattern analysis shows that Ca9Y(VO4)7 is a single pure phase, and the doping of Er3+ and Yb3+ did not cause any heterogeneous phase. Ca9Y(VO4)7: 0.3 Yb3+, 0.02 Er3+ phosphor emitted strong green luminescence (531 nm, 2H11/2→4I15/2, 558 nm, 4S3/2→4I15/2) and very weak red luminescence (665 nm, 4F9/2→4I15/2) under 980 nm near-infrared laser irradiation. Its upconversion green-red luminescence integral intensity ratio can reach 25.6. The upconversion luminescence mechanism was revealed in detail through the power reliability of the photoluminescence strength and the downward shift spectrum. The primary excitation pathway for the upconversion process of Ca9Y(VO4)7: 0.3 Yb3+, 0.02 Er3+ is Yb3+(2F5/2) + Er3+(4I11/2)→Yb3+(2F7/2) + Er3+(4F7/2). It provides a novel method for exploring new materials. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
