A novel framework for gene selection

Microarray data are highly redundant and noisy, and most genes are believed to be uninformative with respect to studied classes, as only a fraction of genes may present distinct profiles for different classes of samples. This paper proposed a novel hybrid framework (NHF) for the classification of high dimensional microarray data, which combined information gain(IG), F-score, genetic algorithm(GA), particle swarm optimization(PSO) and support vector machines(SVM). In order to identify a subset of informative genes embedded out of a large dataset which is contaminated with high dimensional noise, the proposed method is divided into three stages. In the first stage, IG is used to construct a ranking list of features, and only 10% features of the ranking list are provided for the second stage. In the second stage, PSO performs the feature selection task combining SVM. F-score is considered as a part of the objective function of PSO. The feature subsets are filtered according to the ranking list from the first stage, and then the results of it are supplied to the initialization of GA. Both the SVM parameter optimization and the feature selection are dynamically executed by PSO. In the third stage, GA initializes the individual of population from the results of the second stage, and an optimal result of feature selection is gained using GA integrating SVM. Both the SVM parameter optimization and the feature selection are dynamically performed by GA. The performance of the proposed method was compared with that of the PSO based, GA based, Ant colony optimization (ACO) based and simulated annealing (SA) based methods on five benchmark data sets, leukemia, colon, breast cancer, lung carcinoma and brain cancer. The numerical results and statistical analysis show that the proposed approach is capable of selecting a subset of predictive genes from a large noisy data set, and can capture the correlated structure in the data. In this paper, we develop a new subspace based multiuser carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimation scheme for multi-input multi- output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) uplink transmission. We exploit the rank reduction approach by equipping multiple antennas at the receiver, in which the CFO of each user is derived blindly using one dimension (1-D) search individually. The proposed scheme supports the generalized subcarrier assignment scheme and full loaded transmission with all subcarriers being allocated to users. Numerical results are provided to corroborate the proposed studies.

In this paper, we propose a distributed angle estimation method for wireless sensor network localization with multipath fading. The multiple antenna system is equipped at the anchor and the angle of departure (AOD) can be estimated individually at each sensor node with single antenna system. Further, we exploit the space diversity to improve the estimation performance by deploying multiple parallel arrays at the anchor. Analysis and simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

In this paper, a model for the static channel assignment in multi-radio multi-channel wireless mesh networks is proposed. We describe an interference model in wireless communication environment. The degree of detail in the model determines the accuracy of channel assignment. In many wireless mesh networks studies, the simplistic protocol interference model is adopted, but the model is usually not realistic and practical. Therefore, we construct a physical interference model and put forward a pure integer quadratic programming (PIQP) model to solve the channel assignment problem and maximize the capacity of wireless mesh networks. The feasibility and effectivity of the channel assignment solution are suggested by the results of simulation. © 2010 IEEE.

An energy-balanced multicast routing algorithm EBMR in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is proposed. The objective of EMBR algorithm is to improve the energy efficiency and extend the network lifetime in multicast. To achieve this goal, the energy consumption model in WSNs is analyzed and an energy-constrained metric for multicast forwarder selecting is studied. Then the framework of EBMR algorithm is discussed. Simulation results show that EBMR algorithm is able to reduce energy consumption of the whole network evenly. Compared with shortest path tree (SPT) multicast routing algorithm, EMBR algorithm will extend the network lifetime. © 2010 IEEE.

An aggregate signature scheme allows a public algorithm to aggregate n signatures of n distinct messages from n signers into a single signature. By validating the single resulting signature, one can be convinced that the messages have been endorsed by all the signers. Certificateless aggregate signatures allow the signers to authenticate messages without suffering from the complex certificate management in the traditional public key cryptography or the key escrow problem in identity-based cryptography. In this paper, we present a new efficient certificate less aggregate signature scheme. Compared with up-to-date certificate less aggregate signatures, our scheme is equipped with a number of attracting features: (1) it is shown to be secure under the standard computational Diffie-Hellman assumption in the random oracle model, (2) the security is proven in the strongest security model so far, (3) the signers do not need to be synchronized, and (4) its performance is comparable to the most efficient up-to-date schemes. These features are desirable in a mobile networking and computing environment where the storage/computation capacity of the end devices are limited, and due to the wireless connection and distributed feature, the computing devices are easy to be attacked and hard to be synchronized.

Cloud computing is a novel computing pattern, and it can provide underlying hardware resource for cloud users on demand. Virtualization is the key technology of cloud computing, and it provides the technical support for cloud computing. In cloud platform, power management is an indispensable function of cloud system administration. Based on genetic algorithm, this paper proposes a power management method based on virtual cluster. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems may suffer from both carrier frequency offset (CFO) and in-phase/quadrature-phase (I/Q) imbalance at the receiver front end. In this paper, a novel type of intercarrier interference (ICI) self-cancellation method using mirror mapping is proposed to combat these impairment. Based on the proposed novel method and by adopting two widely used mapping operations, we altogether derive two different mirror mapping schemes. Analysis and simulation results verify that the proposed mirror mapping schemes not only inherit the efficiency of the existing self-cancellation schemes in suppressing ICI caused by CFO but also have the ability of compressing or even eliminating IQ imbalance.

To apply IPv6 to IEEE 802.15.4-based low-power wireless personal area networks, efficient packet header compression is essential to adapt to limited bandwidth, memory and energy resources of such networks. While the existing header compression solutions are yet to be perfected, an improved header compression scheme is proposed which has the capability to better support the compression on IPv6 multicast address, UDP, ICMP headers and routing extension headers as well. © 2010 IEEE.

Nowadays, e-mail is one of the most inexpensive and expeditious means of communication. However, a principal problem of any internet user is the increasing number of spam, and therefore an efficient spam filtering method is imperative. Feature selection is one of the most important factors, which can influence the classification accuracy rate. To improve the performance of spam prediction, this paper proposes a new fuzzy adaptive multi-population parallel genetic algorithm (FAMGA) for feature selection. To maintain the diversity of population, a few studies of multi-swarm strategy are reported, whereas the dynamic parameter setting has not been considered further. The proposed method is based on multiple subpopulations and each subpopulation runs in independent memory space. For the purpose of controlling the subpopulations adaptively, we put forward two regulation strategies, namely population adjustment and subpopulation adjustment. In subpopulation adjustment, a controller is designed to adjust the crossover rate for each subpopulation, and in population adjustment, a controller is designed to adjust the size of each subpopulation. Three publicly available benchmark corpora for spam filtering, the PU1, Ling-Spam and Spam Assassin, are used in our experiments. The results of experiments show that the proposed method improves the performance of spam filtering, and is significantly better than other feature selection methods. Thus, it is proved that the multi-population regulation strategy can find the optimal feature subset, and prevent premature convergence of the population.
