In this paper, we explore the design of interpersonal bodily intertwinement through a VR social game, "Light Up Fireflies". Inspired by works of virtual co-embodiment, our game lets two players embody a single avatar, where each player controls half of the body. The gameplay involves walking in a virtual forest and collaboratively interacting with floating fireflies. While moving, poor coordination can lead to unbalanced movements, causing the avatar to lose its center of mass and fall. Such a design might blur the body boundary between players, providing an intriguing bodily experience of interpersonal bodily intertwinement. We hope our work offers novel insights into bodily play where players experience interconnected physical presence within the digital space. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). Multi-class classification can be solved by decomposing it into a set of binary classification problems according to some encoding rules,e.g.,one-vs-one,one-vs-rest,error-correcting output *** works solve these binary classification problems in the original feature space,while it might be suboptimal as different binary classification problems correspond to different positive and negative *** this paper,we propose to learn label-specific features for each decomposed binary classification problem to consider the specific characteristics containing in its positive and negative ***,to generate the label-specific features,clustering analysis is respectively conducted on the positive and negative examples in each decomposed binary data set to discover their inherent information and then label-specific features for one example are obtained by measuring the similarity between it and all cluster *** clearly validate the effectiveness of learning label-specific features for decomposition-based multi-class classification.

Spectral computed tomography (CT) provides the potential to generate attenuation maps at varying spectral bins, which can subsequently be employed for the resolve of tissue materials. However, the majority of reconstruction algorithms employed for every projection energy bin typically exhibit a considerable degree of noise. Recently, a series of techniques have been designed in spectral CT reconstruction based on traditional iterative models or deep learning (DL) methods. However, these works are independent or simply coupled, often neglecting the dependency relationships of spatial and spectrum. Additionally, the interpretability and generalization capabilities remain as formidable challenges for current methods. To effectively address these challenges, we initially introduce a spatial-spectral convolutional sparse coding (SS-CSC) framework, which aims to jointly represent spatial and spectral features in a unified manner. Subsequently, we devise a novel deep unfolding network, inspired by SS-CSC, for spectral CT image representation. We refer to this component as the SS-CSC module. Furthermore, we expand the iterative reconstruction scheme for constructing an interpretable deep SS-CSC iterative reconstruction network (SS-CSC-Net) model for spectral CT imaging. The SS-CSC-Net is composed of several iteration blocks, with each block containing two modules: image reconstruction and SS-CSC modules. The spectral CT image is updated using a deep learning-based spatial-spectral prior constraint. Experimental results from both qualitative results and quantitative analyses indicate that the proposed SS-CSC-Net excels in noise reduction and in maintaining tissue edge integrity, delivering superior overall performance. © 2024 IEEE.

Graph neural networks (GNNs) have achieved promising performance on semantic dependency parsing (SDP), owing to their powerful graph representation learning ability. However, training a high-performing GNN-based model requires a large amount of labeled data and it is prone to over-fitting in the absence of sufficient labeled data. To address this drawback, we propose a syntax-guided graph contrastive learning framework to pre-train GNNs with plenty of unlabeled data and fine-tune pre-trained GNNs with few-shot labeled SDP data. Through extensive experiments conducted on the SemEval-2015 Task 18 English dataset in three formalisms (DM, PAS, and PSD), we demonstrate that our framework achieves promising results when few-shot training samples are available. Furthermore, benefiting from the pre-training process, our framework exhibits notable advantages in the out-of-domain test sets. © 2024 ELRA Language Resource Association: CC BY-NC 4.0.

Transformers have significantly improved Neural Machine Translation (NMT) models, accompanied by the inherent space complexity of O(n2). While recent approaches aim to be parameter-efficient, they often exhibit limited generalization capabilities with fewer parameters and decreased performances in longer sentences. To this end, we propose two methods, Syntax-enhanced Contrastive Learning (Syn-CL) and JS divergence-based Regularized Dropout (JSR-Drop) for the cross-layer parameter-sharing Transformer (baseline) in NMT. In Syn-CL, we add the corresponding target-to-source instances for the same batch in an extra bidirectional training phase, and minimize the distances of syntax-enhanced representation between the bilingual sentence-pair while maximizing the ones among others. In JSR-Drop, we refine the regularized dropout strategy with JS divergence, and improve generalization capabilities by reducing Transformers’ inconsistencies between training and inference introduced by dropout. Extensive experiments on six NMT tasks, IWSLT2014 (German↔English) and IWSLT2017 (English↔French and English↔Romanian), show an average BLEU score of 37.55, surpassing the vanilla Transformer and the baseline up to 1.75 BLEU, and outperforming models with 1.5×, 2.0× parameters in translating long sentences. Gesture recognition has been widely used in many situations, such as human-computer interaction, virtual reality and smart home. To meet the current demands for accuracy and speed in gesture recognition, this paper proposes an improved algorithm based on YOLOv8, referred to as YOLOv8-GR. By replacing the original YOLOv8 detection head with a Dynamic Head, we integrate scale-aware, spatial-aware, and task-aware attention mechanisms within a unified framework. To enhance context information capture, the SPPF (Spatial Pyramid Pooling - Fast) module is optimized to a modified SPPF-LSKA (Large Separable Kernel Attention) module. In addition, we employ the EIoU loss function for more accurate evaluation of object detection results. To evaluate our algorithm, we integrate a gesture dataset in complex and diverse scenarios through network and field shooting annotations. Compared to the original YOLOv8, the proposed YOLOv8-GR achieves a 22.5% improvement in mAP50 and a 10.0% improvement in mAP50-95 on our dataset. We also compare YOLOv8-GR with the MobileNetv2-based SSD, which is a kind of one-stage object detection algorithm. While maintaining similar recognition accuracy, the computational cost of YOLOv8-GR is 9.9 GFLOPs, which is 15.8% of SSD, and our algorithm can be deployed on Raspberry Pi 4B. © 2024 IEEE.

Conditional Semantic Textual Similarity (C-STS) introduces specific limiting conditions to the traditional Semantic Textual Similarity (STS) task, posing challenges for STS models. Language models employing cross-encoding demonstrate satisfactory performance in STS, yet their effectiveness significantly diminishes in C-STS. In this work, we argue that the failure is due to the fact that the redundant information in the text distracts language models from the required condition-relevant information. To alleviate this, we propose SElf-Augmentation Via SElf-Reweighting (SEAVER), which, based solely on models' internal attention and without the need for external auxiliary information, adaptively reallocates the model's attention weights by emphasizing the importance of condition-relevant tokens. On the C-STS-2023 test set, SEAVER consistently improves performance of all million-scale fine-tuning baseline models (up to around 3 points), and even surpasses performance of billion-scale few-shot prompted large language models (such as GPT-4). In multi-label learning, each training instance is associated with multiple labels simultaneously. Traditional multi-label learning studies primarily focus on closed set scenario, i.e. the class label set of test data is identical to those used in training phase. Nevertheless, in numerous real-world scenarios, the environment is open and dynamic where unknown labels may emerge gradually during testing. In this paper, the problem of multi-label open set recognition (MLOSR) is investigated, which poses significant challenges in classifying and recognizing instances with unknown labels in multi-label setting. To enable open set multi-label prediction, a novel approach named SLAN is proposed by leveraging sub-labeling information enriched by structural information in the feature space. Accordingly, unknown labels are recognized by differentiating the sub-labeling information from holistic supervision. Experimental results on various datasets validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in dealing with the MLOSR problem. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. Semi-supervised learning (SSL) is a classical machine learning paradigm dealing with labeled and unlabeled data. However, it often suffers performance degradation in real-world open-set scenarios, where unlabeled data contains outliers from novel categories that do not appear in labeled data. Existing studies commonly tackle this challenging open-set SSL problem with detect-and-filter strategy, which attempts to purify unlabeled data by detecting and filtering outliers. In this paper, we propose a novel binary decomposition strategy, which refrains from error-prone procedure of outlier detection by directly transforming the original open-set SSL problem into a number of standard binary SSL problems. Accordingly, a concise yet effective approach named BDMatch is presented. BDMatch confronts two attendant issues brought by binary decomposition, i.e. class-imbalance and representation-compromise, with adaptive logit adjustment and label-specific feature learning respectively. Comprehensive experiments on diversified benchmarks clearly validate the superiority of BDMatch as well as the effectiveness of our binary decomposition strategy. Copyright 2024 by the author(s)
