Partial multi-label learning via label-specific feature corrections

Partial multi-label learning（PML） allows learning from rich-semantic objects with inaccurate annotations, where a set of candidate labels are assigned to each training example but only some of them are valid. Existing approaches rely on disambiguation to tackle the PML problem, which aims to correct noisy candidate labels by recovering the ground-truth labeling information ahead of prediction model induction. However, this dominant strategy might be suboptimal as it usually needs extra assumptions that cannot be fully satisfied in real-world scenarios. Instead of label correction, we investigate another strategy to tackle the PML problem, where the potential ambiguity in PML data is eliminated by correcting instance features in a label-specific manner. Accordingly, a simple yet effective approach named PASE, i.e., partial multi-label learning via label-specific feature corrections, is proposed. Under a meta-learning framework, PASElearns to exert label-specific feature corrections so that potential ambiguity specific to each class label can be eliminated and the desired prediction model can be induced on these corrected instance features with the provided candidate labels. Comprehensive experiments on a wide range of synthetic and real-world data sets validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Self-supervised graph representation learning has recently shown considerable promise in a range of fields, including bioinformatics and social networks. A large number of graph contrastive learning approaches have shown promising performance for representation learning on graphs, which train models by maximizing agreement between original graphs and their augmented views(i.e., positive views). Unfortunately, these methods usually involve pre-defined augmentation strategies based on the knowledge of human experts. Moreover, these strategies may fail to generate challenging positive views to provide sufficient supervision signals. In this paper, we present a novel approach named graph pooling contrast(GPS) to address these *** by the fact that graph pooling can adaptively coarsen the graph with the removal of redundancy, we rethink graph pooling and leverage it to automatically generate multi-scale positive views with varying emphasis on providing challenging positives and preserving semantics, i.e., strongly-augmented view and weakly-augmented view. Then, we incorporate both views into a joint contrastive learning framework with similarity learning and consistency learning, where our pooling module is adversarially trained with respect to the encoder for adversarial robustness. Experiments on twelve datasets on both graph classification and transfer learning tasks verify the superiority of the proposed method over its counterparts.

Foundation models(FMs) [1] have revolutionized software development and become the core components of large software systems. This paradigm shift, however, demands fundamental re-imagining of software engineering theories and methodologies [2]. Instead of replacing existing software modules implemented by symbolic logic, incorporating FMs' capabilities to build software systems requires entirely new modules that leverage the unique capabilities of ***, while FMs excel at handling uncertainty, recognizing patterns, and processing unstructured data, we need new engineering theories that support the paradigm shift from explicitly programming and maintaining user-defined symbolic logic to creating rich, expressive requirements that FMs can accurately perceive and implement.

AsyCo: an asymmetric dual-task co-training model for partial-label learning

Partial-label learning(PLL) is a typical problem of weakly supervised learning, where each training instance is annotated with a set of candidate labels. Self-training PLL models achieve state-of-the-art performance but suffer from error accumulation problems caused by mistakenly disambiguated instances. Although co-training can alleviate this issue by training two networks simultaneously and allowing them to interact with each other, most existing co-training methods train two structurally identical networks with the same task, i.e., are symmetric, rendering it insufficient for them to correct each other due to their similar limitations. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an asymmetric dual-task co-training PLL model called AsyCo,which forces its two networks, i.e., a disambiguation network and an auxiliary network, to learn from different views explicitly by optimizing distinct tasks. Specifically, the disambiguation network is trained with a self-training PLL task to learn label confidence, while the auxiliary network is trained in a supervised learning paradigm to learn from the noisy pairwise similarity labels that are constructed according to the learned label confidence. Finally, the error accumulation problem is mitigated via information distillation and confidence refinement. Extensive experiments on both uniform and instance-dependent partially labeled datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of AsyCo.

Enhancing Entity Relationship Extraction in Dialogue Texts Using Hypergraph and Heterogeneous Graph

Dialogue-based relation extraction(DialogRE) aims to predict relationships between two entities in dialogue. Current approaches to dialogue relationship extraction grapple with long-distance entity relationships in dialogue data as well as complex entity relationships, such as a single entity with multiple types of connections. To address these issues, this paper presents a novel approach for dialogue relationship extraction termed the hypergraphs and heterogeneous graphs model(HG2G). This model introduces a two-tiered structure, comprising dialogue hypergraphs and dialogue heterogeneous graphs, to address the shortcomings of existing methods. The dialogue hypergraph establishes connections between similar nodes using hyper-edges and utilizes hypergraph convolution to capture multi-level features. Simultaneously, the dialogue heterogeneous graph connects nodes and edges of different types, employing heterogeneous graph convolution to aggregate cross-sentence information. Ultimately, the integrated nodes from both graphs capture the semantic nuances inherent in dialogue. Experimental results on the DialogRE dataset demonstrate that the HG2G model outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods.

KD-Crowd:a knowledge distillation framework for learning from crowds

Recently, crowdsourcing has established itself as an efficient labeling solution by distributing tasks to crowd workers. As the workers can make mistakes with diverse expertise, one core learning task is to estimate each worker’s expertise, and aggregate over them to infer the latent true labels. In this paper, we show that as one of the major research directions, the noise transition matrix based worker expertise modeling methods commonly overfit the annotation noise, either due to the oversimplified noise assumption or inaccurate estimation. To solve this problem, we propose a knowledge distillation framework (KD-Crowd) by combining the complementary strength of noise-model-free robust learning techniques and transition matrix based worker expertise modeling. The framework consists of two stages: in Stage 1, a noise-model-free robust student model is trained by treating the prediction of a transition matrix based crowdsourcing teacher model as noisy labels, aiming at correcting the teacher’s mistakes and obtaining better true label predictions;in Stage 2, we switch their roles, retraining a better crowdsourcing model using the crowds’ annotations supervised by the refined true label predictions given by Stage 1. Additionally, we propose one f-mutual information gain (MIG^(f)) based knowledge distillation loss, which finds the maximum information intersection between the student’s and teacher’s prediction. We show in experiments that MIG^(f) achieves obvious improvements compared to the regular KL divergence knowledge distillation loss, which tends to force the student to memorize all information of the teacher’s prediction, including its errors. We conduct extensive experiments showing that, as a universal framework, KD-Crowd substantially improves previous crowdsourcing methods on true label prediction and worker expertise estimation.

Unsupervised Domain Adaptation(UDA)intends to achieve excellent results by transferring knowledge from labeled source domains to unlabeled target domains in which the data or label distribution *** UDA methods have acquired great success when labels in the source domain are ***,even the acquisition of scare clean labels in the source domain needs plenty of costs as *** the presence of label noise in the source domain,the traditional UDA methods will be seriously degraded as they do not deal with the label *** this paper,we propose an approach named Robust Self-training with Label Refinement(RSLR)to address the above *** adopts the self-training framework by maintaining a Labeling Network(LNet)on the source domain,which is used to provide confident pseudo-labels to target samples,and a Target-specific Network(TNet)trained by using the pseudo-labeled *** combat the effect of label noise,LNet progressively distinguishes and refines the mislabeled source *** combination with class rebalancing to combat the label distribution shift issue,RSLR achieves effective performance on extensive benchmark datasets.

COMPrompter: reconceptualized segment anything model with multiprompt network for camouflaged object detection

We rethink the segment anything model(SAM) and propose a novel multiprompt network called COMPrompter for camouflaged object detection(COD). SAM has zero-shot generalization ability beyond other models and can provide an ideal framework for COD. Our network aims to enhance the single prompt strategy in SAM to a multiprompt strategy. To achieve this, we propose an edge gradient extraction module, which generates a mask containing gradient information regarding the boundaries of camouflaged objects. This gradient mask is then used as a novel boundary prompt, enhancing the segmentation process. Thereafter, we design a box-boundary mutual guidance module, which fosters more precise and comprehensive feature extraction via mutual guidance between a boundary prompt and a box prompt. This collaboration enhances the model's ability to accurately detect camouflaged objects. Moreover, we employ the discrete wavelet transform to extract high-frequency features from image embeddings. The high-frequency features serve as a supplementary component to the multiprompt ***, our COMPrompter guides the network to achieve enhanced segmentation results, thereby advancing the development of SAM in terms of COD. Experimental results across COD benchmarks demonstrate that COMPrompter achieves a cutting-edge performance, surpassing the current leading model by an average positive metric of 2.2% in COD10K. In the specific application of COD, the experimental results in polyp segmentation show that our model is superior to top-tier methods as well.
