Physical-barrier detection based collective motion analysis

Collective motion is one of the most fascinating phenomena and mainly caused by the interactions between individuals. Physical-barriers, as the particular facilities which divide the crowd into different lanes, greatly affect the measurement of such interactions. In this paper we propose the physical-barrier detection based collective motion analysis (PDCMA) approach. The main idea is that the interaction between spatially adjacent pedestrians actually does not exist if they are separated by the physical-barrier. Firstly, the physical-barriers are extracted by two-stage clustering. The scene is automatically divided into several motion regions. Secondly, local region collectiveness is calculated to represent the interactions between pedestrians in each region. Finally, extensive evaluations use the three typical methods, i.e., the PDCMA, the Collectiveness, and the average normalized Velocity, to show the efficiency and efficacy of our approach in the scenes with and without physical barriers. Moreover, several escalator scenes are selected as the typical physical-barrier test scenes to demonstrate the performance of our approach. Compared with the current collective motion analysis methods, our approach better adapts to the scenes with physical barriers.

Since the virtual network traffic is invisible outside the hypervisor, it is impossible for traditional network-base security devices to harness the attacks happened in virtual computing environment. Industry and academies adopt the network security enabled hypervisor (NSE-H) to protect virtual machines (VM) residing in the virtual network. In this paper, we identified the insufficiency of the existing live migration implementation, which prevents itself from providing transparent VM relocation between NSE-Hs. This occurs because the contemporary migration implementation only takes VM encapsulated states into account, but ignores VM related security context(SC) needed by NSE-H embedded security engines (SE). We presented a comprehensive live migration framework for the NSE-H, considering both the execution context encapsulated in VM instance and the VM related security context within the SEs. We built a prototype system of the framework based on stateful firewall enabled Xen hypervisor. Our experiment was performed with realistic applications and the results demonstrate that the solution complements the insufficiency without introducing significant performance downgrade. Even in the worst case, the downtime that occurs during migration increases no more than 15%, comparing to existing implementation. ©2009 IEEE.

In order to effectively deal with large-scale attacks on computer networks, computer Network Defense (CND) policy refinement based on descriptive language is wildly used. However, it's very difficult to figure out the semantic discrepancies between the measures and the predefined policy after the calculation with symbols by computers. A new method is presented to solve the discordance of semantic between the measures and the predefined policy automatically. Based on the establishment of the ontology of CND policy and measure (CNDPM), the CND policy and measure semantic similarity analysis model (CNDPMSSAM) is established, and then the termination of the two main components of CNDPMSSAM are proofed by the putdown automaton, and the prototype system of CNDPMSSAM is implemented. At last, we validate the validity of this method on analyzing semantic similarity of transferring from computer Network Defense Policy Specification Language (CNDPSL) to Defense Measure Description Language (DMDL) with experiments. © 2010 IEEE.

Augmented virtual reality (AVR) takes portions of the physical world into the VR world to enable VR users to access physical objects. State-of-the-art solutions mainly focus on extracting and showing physical objects in the VR world. In this work, we go beyond previous solutions and propose a novel approach to realize AVR. We first analyze the physical environment in the user's egocentric view through depth sensing and deep learning, then acquire the layout and geometry of the surrounding objects, and further explore their affordances. Based on the above information, we create visual guidance (hollowed guiding path) and hybrid user interfaces (augmented physical notepad, LR finger slider, and LRRL finger slider) to augment the AVR interaction. Empirical evaluations showed that the participants responded positively to our AVR techniques. © 2019 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Peer-to-peer (P2P) Botnets, which are more resilient and robust than centralized botnets, have emerged as the peer-to-peer technology evolves. Better understanding of this new phenomenon will help researchers develop detection and mitigation methods. Most of existing work is case study of typical P2P botnets. In this paper, we focus on systematically analyzing structures of P2P botnets. We propose a descriptive model of P2P botnet structures, which consists of features of P2P bot, definitions of structures, and structural properties. Firstly, we detail two key functionalities of P2P bot, command-and-control (C&C) functionality and peer-to-peer (P2P) functionality, and give several features of P2P bot. And then, we define two structures of P2P botnets: C&C structure and P2P structure. To characterize these structures, we propose several properties and corresponding quantitative methods. Finally, we conduct experiments to verify our results. © 2010 IEEE.

Photo-consistency estimation is an important part for many image-based modeling *** paper presents a novel radiance-based color calibration method to reduce the uncertainty of photo-consistency estimation across multiple *** idea behind our method is to convert colors into a uniform radiometric color space in which multiple image data are *** results demonstrate that our method can achieve comparable color calibration effect without adjusting camera parameters and is more robust than other existing ***,we obtain an auto-determined threshold for photo-consistency check,which will lead to a better performance than existing photo-consistency based reconstruction algorithms.

The exhibition of China Science and technology Museum needs to exhibit the specimens of the digital museums and demonstrate the grid technology in a vivid way which meets the requirements from visualization, interaction and multimedia. This paper designs a method of constructing digital museum grid for the purpose of science popularization, based on the existing work of China Education and Research Grid. The method presented here is composed of three steps. Firstly, the human-computer interface and interaction for the science popularization exhibition is designed. Then a way of sharing digital specimen resources is given. Finally, we establish the digital museum grid system for science popularization in the grid environment. The status shows that the exhibition is working very well in China Science and technology Museum, and has received recognition from users. ©2010 IEEE.

For multi-person 2D pose estimation,current deep learning baised methods have exhibited impressive performance,but the trade-offs among efficiency,robustness,and accuracy in the existing approaches remain *** principle,bottom-up methods are superior to top-down methods in efficiency,but they perform worse in *** make full use of their respective advantages,in this paper we design a novel bidirectional optimization coupled lightweight network(BOCLN)architecture for efficient,robust,and general-purpose multi-person 2D(2-dimensional)pose estimation from natural *** the BOCLN framework,the bottom-up network focuses oil global features,while the top-down net work places emphasis on det ailed *** entire framework shares global features along the bottom-up data stream,while the top-down data stream aims to accelerate the accurate pose *** particular,to exploit the priors of human joints'relationship,we propose a probability limb heat map to represent the spatial context of the joints and guide the overall pose skeleton prediction,so that each person's pose estimation in cluttered scenes(involving crowd)could be as accurate and robust as ***,benefiting from the novel BOCLN architecture,the tinie-consuming refinement procedure could be much simplified to an efficient lightweight *** experiments and evaluations on public benchmarks have confirmed that our new method is more efficient and robust,yet still attain competitive accuracy performance compared with the state-of-the-art *** BOCLN shows even greater promise in online applications.

In this paper, we investigate facial age estimation with images in the wild. We aim to utilize images from the Internet to alleviate the problem of imbalance in age distribution. First, we crawl 14,283 images with their context from Wikipedia and infer age labels from the context for each image. After face detection, facial landmark detection and alignment, we build a set of images for facial age estimation, containing 9,456 faces with significant variations. Then, we exploit cost-sensitive learning algorithms including biased penalties SVM and Random forests for age estimation, using images in the wild as the training set. We propose to use the Gaussian function to determine varied misclassification costs. Conducted on two public aging datasets, the within-database experiments illustrate the performance improvement with the introduction of images in the wild. Furthermore, our cross-database experiments validate the generalization capability of proposed cost-sensitive age estimator. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016.

A modeling and simulation tool called SimRC is described in this paper. It is dedicated to improve the efficiency of reconfigurable computing development. In SimRC, a new architecture description language is designed for architecture modeling, and the target architecture simulator is generated according to that model with our code generation approach. In this way, SimRC achieves the general purpose in a certain scope. The results of the preliminary experiments show that not only SimRC is able to model various architectures, but also it achieves the high simulation efficiency.
