In order to build multi-domain collaborative simulation systems, the method of making MATLAB programs join into HLA/RTI based distributed interaction simulation system needs to be studied. Aiming at giving full play to the advent-ages of MATLAB in visualization and engineering computing, improving the efficiency of collaborative simulation systems, this paper has proposed a method making MATLAB programs and SIMULINK modules seamlessly join into HLA/RTI based simulation system. The principles of the method are elaborated, and the designs of the related modules are introduced. The demonstrations and testing results show that the method could fully execute the visualized simula-tion functions of MATLAB, and has advantage in simulation efficiency over existing methods. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

With the advent of cloud computing in recent years, many people in the industry or colleges have pay their attention on it. In this work, we developed three visualization services for multidisciplinary experiments on a cloud-based virtual educational platform, which delivers "Software as a Service (SaaS)" over the internet. This platform integrates virtual experiment softwares distributed on the Internet, and delivers virtual experiment as a service to users. Our visualization services play a role for uniformly modeling virtual experiment instrument, building virtual experiment scene and visualizing virtual experiment result. More than 60 virtual experiment instruments are modeled and 18 virtual experiment scenes covering 5 disciplines are built. The user feedback demonstrates the usefulness of this work. © 2013 IEEE.

Fast Residual Quad-Tree Coding for the Emerging High Efficiency Video Coding Standard

In High Efficiency Video Coding, the Residual Quad-Yree （RQT） coding is used to encode the prediction residual for both intra and inter Coding Units （CU） and provides improved coding gains. However, this results in much higher computational complexities. To address this problem, we develop two fast RQT algorithms for intra- and inter-prediction residual coding respectively. For intra coding, the proposed algorithm selects the best prediction mode in the rate distortion mode decision process using a Prediction Unit （PU） size-dependent fast RQT depth decision on a reduced prediction mode candidates set from the rough mode decision process. For inter coding, in addition to CU size-dependent fast RQT depth decisions, we propose a discriminant analy- sis-based fast depth decision algorithm to det- ermine the best transform unit size. Experimental results show that on average, we can real- ise a 21.29% encoding time saving and 0.03% bit-rate reduction for intra coding, while 15% of the encoding time can be saved with a negligible coding performance loss for inter coding.

This paper extends RBAC's authorizing ability via adding domain and virtual machine features aiming at applying in the virtu-alized scenarios. We define a new model named VRBAC in which authorized users can migrate or copy virtual machines from one domain to another without causing a conflict. Subjects can also share permissions of not only resources but also virtual machines with other subjects from the same or different domains. Three types of conflicts in VRBAC policies are discussed and described in form of description logic, which provides extra access to reasoning engines and facilitates the conflict checking procedure. Based on Active Directory and Xen Cloud Platform, VRBAC model visualization and its conflict checking can be enforced within the prototype system. The experimental results indicate that all conflicts can be effectively detected and the literal report generated can provide conflict details such as conflict types, positions and causes as guidance for further conflict resolution. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.

The studio has extraordinary meaning of the personnel training of the specialty. The paper introduces the system functional components of virtual studio laboratory, elaborates the realization of technologies of virtual studio laboratory, analyses the virtual studio laboratory's application meaning in teaching in the end. Appling the virtual studio laboratory in teaching, we can acquire well teaching effect. In this paper, we address the problem of image annotation when the given labels of training image are incomplete, inaccurate, and unevenly distributed, in the form of weak labels, which is frequently encountered when dealing with large scale web image training set. We introduce a progressive semantic neighborhood learning approach that explicitly addresses the challenge of learning from weakly labeled image by searching image's semantic consistent neighborhood. Neighbors in image's semantic consistent neighborhood have global similarity, partial correlation, conceptual similarity along with semantic balance. We also present an efficient label inference algorithm to handle noise by minimizing the neighborhood reconstruction error. Experiments with different data sets show that the proposed framework is more effective than the state-of-the-art algorithms in dealing with weakly labeled datasets. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Image annotation can significantly facilitate web image search and organization. Although it has been studied for years by the computer vision and machine learning communities, image annotation is still far from practical. Existing example-based methods are usually developed based on label co-occurrence information. However, due to the neglect of the associated label set's internal correlation and relevance to image, the annotation results of previous methods often suffer from the problem of label ambiguity and noise, which limits the effectiveness of these labels in search and other applications. To solve the above problems, a novel model-free web image annotation approach is proposed in this paper, which consider both the relevance and correlation of the assigned label set. First, measures that can estimate the label set relevance and internal correlation are designed. Then, according to the above calculations, both factors are formulated into an optimization framework, and a search algorithm is proposed to find a label set as the final result, which reaches a reasonable trade-off between the relevance and internal correlation. Experimental results on benchmark web image data set show the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed algorithm. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Behaviour detection models based on automata have been studied widely. By add- ing edge ε, the local automata are combined into global automata to describe and detect soft- ware behaviour. However, these methods in- troduce nondeterminacy, leading to models that are imprecise or inefficient. We present a model of software Behaviour Detection based on Process Algebra and system call （BDPA）. In this model, a system call is mapped into an action, and a function is mapped into a process We construct a process expression for each function to describe its behaviour. Without con- strutting automata or introducing nondeter- minacy, we use algebraic properties and algo- rithms to obtain a global process expression by combining the process expressions derived from each function. Behaviour detection rules and methods based on BDPA are determined by equivalence theory. Experiments demon- strate that the BDPA model has better preci- sion and efficiency than traditional methods.

As traditional "Connectivity" concept from the Internet ignores the possibility of opportunistic contacts in DTNs, this paper brings time dimension into consideration, proposes Spatial-Temporal Path, Spatial-Temporal Reachability and K-Reachability in order to better describe the whole communication process and "Eventual Transportability" of DTN. Analytical and simulation results are given to show the correctness of our approach. Furthermore, Spatial-Temporal Reachability and K-Reachability, which tell a network's robustness in a quantitative fashion, are proved to be suitable for analyzing efficiency and routing performance of DTNs. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.

Aim: Spiking activities and neuronal network oscillations in the theta frequency range have been found in many cortical areas during information processing. The aim of this study is to determine whether nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) mediate neuronal network activity in rat medial septum diagonal band Broca (MSDB) slices. Methods: Extracellular field potentials were recorded in the slices using an Axoprobe 1A amplifier. Data analysis was performed off- line. Spike sorting and local field potential (LFP) analyses were performed using Spike2 software. The role of spiking activity in the generation of LFP oscillations in the slices was determined by analyzing the phase-time relationship between the spikes and LFP oscil- lations. Circular statistic analysis based on the Rayleigh test was used to determine the significance of phase relationships between the spikes and LFP oscillations. The timing relationship was examined by quantifying the spike-field coherence (SFC), Results: Application of nicotine (250 nmol/L) induced prominent LFP oscillations in the theta frequency band and both small- and large-amplitude population spiking activity in the slices. These spikes were phase-locked to theta oscillations at specific phases. The Rayleigh test showed a statistically significant relationship in phase-locking between the spikes and theta oscillations. Larger changes in the SFC were observed for large-amplitude spikes, indicating an accurate timing relationship between this type of spike and LFP oscillations, The nicotine-induced spiking activity (large-amplitude population spikes) was suppressed by the nAChR antagonist dihydro-~-erythroidine (0.3 pmol/L). Conclusion: The results demonstrate that large-amplitude spikes are phase-locked to theta oscillations and have a high spike-timing accuracy, which are likely a main contributor to the theta oscillations generated in MSDB during nicotine receptor activation.
