A high-performance scheduling for a DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) task graph on heterogeneous networked embedded systems or parallel and distributed systems is to maximize concurrency and minimize inter-processor communication. Most of the algorithms using upward rank value for task prioritizing and earliest finish time for processor assignment. But both approaches ignored the heterogeneity of system and could not create accurate and efficient schedules. Yet no one has doubled about and recognized that. A fully heterogeneous task scheduling algorithm is proposed to address the above problems in this paper. The fundamentals of DAG model and corresponding algorithms are investigated. New concepts called Heterogeneous Upward Rank Value (HURV) and Heterogeneous Priority Rank Value (HPRV) are defined. An algorithm called Heterogeneous Select Value (HSV) is proposed in paper. Both benchmark and extensive experimental evaluation demonstrate the significant improvements in proposed algorithm.

In this paper a smartphone fall detection system featuring a three-axis accelerometer sensor with a voice interaction function is presented. The value, measured by the three-axis accelerometer sensor, is sent to the program. It is then calculated and compared to the fall characteristics. When a fall is detected, the voice function asks whether the user needs help. If the fall is not serious, the user can cancel this emergency notification by means of either the voice interaction function or the touch panel. Otherwise the smartphone would automatically send out an emergency signal to the help center to request assistance for the user.

A key frame extraction algorithm oriented for video copy detection based on PCC and the histogram of video frames

Aim to improve the accuracy and the robustness of the video copy detection, a novel key frame extraction algorithm is proposed. The shot segmentation is accomplished by evaluating the Pearsons correlation coefficients (PCC) between adjacent frames, while the key frames are extracted by combining the boundary-based and visual content-based methods. Experimental results show that the proposed key frame extraction algorithm is effective, and it is robust against some content preserving video processing attacks for some existed video hash methods. It provides a novel effective method for key-frames extraction in the video copy detection. 1553-9105/Copyright © 2014 Binary Information Press

The increasing complexity of systems poses a big challenge to design systems with fault-tolerant capability. The aim of this study was to establish fault-tolerant system for multiprocessor platform with the help of hierarchical scheduling framework. A mathematical fault and reliability model for hierarchical scheduling framework was proposed firstly, and then a heuristic algorithm by exploiting the difference of task resource overhead and the probability of task failures was presented and a task replication scheme was given lastly. The experimental results demonstrated the proposed scheme could effectively guarantee reliability goal and reduce resource consumption simultaneously.

This paper considers the problem of stability analysis of uncertain T-S fuzzy systems with interval time-varying delay. The system uncertainties are assumed to be time-varying and *** new delay-derivative-dependent stability conditions are derived by constructing a novel delay-dependent Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and estimating a tighter upper bound of its time derivative without ignoring some useful terms and involving any direct *** proposed approach leads to some less conservative LMI conditions as shown through some numerical examples.

Recommendation systems are popular information filtering tools that help people find what they want. Accuracy is the most widely used metric for evaluating recommendation systems. Recently, many research works have focused on new measurements beyond the accuracy of recommendation systems. In this paper, we propose a neighbor diversification collaborative filtering algorithm to improve the recommendation lists. By using Movielens dataset for empirical analysis, we investigated the influence of neighbor diversity to the recommendation accuracy, diversity, novelty and coverage. Intensive experimental results proved the efficiency of our proposed algorithm for improving recommendation lists.

Many detection models rely on sliding-window methods to search all possible candidates and then localize true instances by linear classifiers. Such exhaustive search involves massive computation. Hough voting scheme provides an alternative way to localize objects. Typical voting-based approaches, casting independent votes for a hypothesis, ignore the mutual relevance of features. The weights of the features for voting are learnt in a simple way. These two weaknesses limit the detection performance of the voting scheme. This paper introduces a novel voting-based model. We group the model features into parts. The features in one part are dependent and can cast consistent votes for a given hypothesis. For a given hypothesis we introduce an overall score function whose parameters can be optimized in a discriminative way. We apply a latent learning framework to deal with part-level weak supervision. The experiments evaluate the proposed model on two standard datasets. We demonstrate significant improvements in detection performance comparing the start-of-the-art detection models.

Low power consumption is becoming a critical factor for multicore processors. As the multicore processor design complexity increases, power estimation for multicore processors has gained more importance. This paper presents a new power model combined of architectural level and gate level for multicore processors. The model maps the multicore processors to a combination of building blocks, and estimates the gate-level power of these blocks using parameterized RTL. Then, the power numbers are made in the form of look-up tables, and integrated in architecture simulators. The experiments show that for peak power estimation, an excellent accuracy has been reached and simulation performance is greatly improved compared to the gate level.

The development of novel high-throughput experimental techniques makes it possible to comprehensively analyze biological data in health and disease. However, a large amount of data generated results in dramatic data-analytic challenges in discovery of 'signature' molecules, which are specific to different biological conditions (e.g. normal vs. disease, treated vs. untreated). Current statistical methods are effective only in the case their hypothesis can be matched. In this paper, we apply an ensemble statistical method to infer significant molecules. In our approach, four well-done and well-understanding statistical techniques had been used for the analysis to the experimental data, and then the results will be collected into an ensemble framework to find the high confident "significant" molecules which can distinguish the different experimental conditions. We evaluate the performance of our approach on a test dataset which deposited on GEO database with an access number of GSE45114. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

With the rapid development of wireless communication technology, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been widely used in many fields. Therefore, the security become an important issue in WSNs. Compared with the wired network, wireless sensor networks have its own features. The one is limited resource, such as energy, computing power and communication capability. The other is attack types. There are some additional attacks appear on sensor node, such as node capture and tampering. As a result, the security mechanisms which work well in wired network can not be applied in wireless senor network directly. In this paper, in order to improve the security level of WSNs, we proposed a new intrusion detection system (IDS) to find malicious node in WSNs. According to the deviation from the normal pattern of node's behavior, basic input vector of evidence is constructed. Furthermore, the weight value is applied to represent the importance of each behavior characteristic and revise the evidence before evidence synthesis. Finally, by utilizing evidence theory and judgment rules, the running state of the evaluated node is obtained. Extensive simulation results show that the proposed IDS is more effective in detecting malicious nodes than existing schemes. © 2031 Asian network for Scientific Information.
