The traditional Pavlov associative memory circuit realizes the law of learning and forgetting in classical conditioned reflex. In addition, the law of generalization and differentiation also belongs to classical conditioned reflex, so the process of associative memory can be more effectively simulated by adding generalization and differentiation theory on the basis of traditional associative memory. In this paper, a memristor-based circuit is designed to implement generalization and differentiation based on Pavlov associative memory. The circuit can be applied to simple classification recognition. Based on the features of objects as input, the output of the circuit is used as the classification result to achieve the function of classification and recognition. Finally,the accuracy of classification recognition on the generalization and differentiation circuit proposed in this paper can be verified by the simulation results in PSPICE.

In many real-world machine learning applications, unlabeled samples are easy to obtain, but it is expensive and/or time-consuming to label them. Active learning is a common approach for reducing this data labeling effort. It optimally selects the best few samples to label, so that a better machine learning model can be trained from the same number of labeled samples. This paper considers active learning for regression (ALR) problems. Three essential criteria - informativeness, representativeness, and diversity - have been proposed for ALR. However, very few approaches in the literature have considered all three of them simultaneously. We propose three new ALR approaches, with different strategies for integrating the three criteria. Extensive experiments on 12 datasets in various domains demonstrated their effectiveness.

Recent work has made considerable progress in exploring contextual information for human parsing with the Fully Convolutional Network framework. However, there still exist two challenges: (1) inherent relative relationships between parts;(2) scale variation of human parts. To tackle both problems, we propose a Graph-Based Scale-Aware Network for human parsing. First, we embed a Graph-Based Part Reasoning Layer into the backbone network to reason the relative relationship between human parts. Then we construct a Scale-Aware Context Embedding Layer, which consists of two branches to capture scale-specific contextual information, with different receptive fields and scale-specific supervisions. In addition, we adopt an edge supervision to further improve the performance. Extensive experimental evaluations demonstrate that the proposed model performs favorably against the state-of-the-art human parsing methods. More specifically, our algorithm achieves 53.32% (mIoU) on the LIP dataset. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

For battery management systems, it is significant to reliably estimate state-of-charge (SOC) from limited measurements in real time. Based on a nonlinear SOC-dependent equivalent circuit model, we propose a real-time moving horizon estimation (MHE) algorithm for SOC estimation. For efficient computation, the sequential quadratic programming strategy is applied, and each quadratic programming (QP) iteration is solved via the structure-exploiting forward and backward recursions. To account for the limited computation time allowed within each sampling interval, the proposed algorithm does not fully solve the receding horizon optimization problem over each sliding window, but performs fixed number of QP iterations. The simulation results show that compared to the existing fully solved MHE applied to SOC estimation, the proposed real-time MHE algorithm significantly saves computation time at the cost of a slight loss of estimation performance.

The widespread image applications have greatly promoted the vision-based tasks, in which the image Quality Assessment (IQA) technique has become an increasingly significant issue. For user enjoyment in multimedia systems, the IQA exploits image fidelity and aesthetics to characterize user experience;while for other tasks such as popular object recognition, there exists a low correlation between utilities and perceptions. In such cases, the fidelity-based and aesthetics-based IQA methods cannot be directly applied. To address this issue, this paper proposes a utility-oriented IQA in object recognition. In particular, we initialize our research in the scenario of underwater fish detection, which is a critical task that has not yet been perfectly addressed. Based on this task, we build an Underwater image Utility Database (UIUD) and a learning-based Underwater image Utility Measure (UIUM). Inspired by the top-down design of fidelity-based IQA, we exploit the deep models of object recognition and transfer their features to our UIUM. Experiments validate that the proposed transfer-learning-based UIUM achieves promising performance in the recognition task. Tcgfusion: A Network for Pet-Mri Fusion Based on Gan and Transformer

We provide an end-to-end unsupervised training model called TCGFusion: a network for PET-MRI fusion based on GAN and transformer. We set the generator to a dual-path layout to assure the gathering of both global and detailed image information. To guarantee the coarse scale picture extraction and prevent the high computational cost, the global path T-Path utilizes Grid-former (a residual grid transformer structure). The detailed path C-Path is DenseNet, and its multi-cascade structure captures image details well. Additionally, we set up a dual adversarial mechanism between the fused image and the source image, creating a dual discriminator to determine the distribution of structural similarity between the fused result and the source image, and using patch-SSIM to reinforce the semantic constraints between them and promote the image details. According to our extensive studies on public datasets, medical image fusion demonstrate the superiority of our TCGFusion compared to the state-of-the-art image fusion algorithms. © 2022, The Authors. Dfe-Net: Dual-Branch Feature Extraction Network for Enhanced Segmentation in Skin Lesion

Skin lesion segmentation is a critical method for extracting pathological information from dermoscopy images, which is of great significance for lesion location, recognition, monitoring and treatment. Due to the varied sizes of lesions, different forms and colors, and blurring boundaries, the present detection methods are unable to accurately anticipate local features, which has an impact on the segmentation accuracy. Therefore, the Dual-branch Feature Extraction Network (DFE-Net) is suggested in this paper. We designed two types of encoders based on the Transformer and Efficient Channel Attention (ECA) module, one for extracting the global feature and another for the local feature, before fusing and decoding. Simultaneously, the skip connections from the Enhanced ECA Feature Extraction Modules to decoders are designed to reduce feature loss during decoding, this will restore the boundaries and local features to the greatest extent possible. We test the model on three publicly available skin lesion datasets: PH2, ISIC-2016, and ISIC-2018. The results show that our model is superior to other previous methods, and the segmentation characteristics are more accurate representations of the actual lesion. © 2022, The Authors. This paper explores the size-invariance of evaluation metrics in Salient Object Detection (SOD), especially when multiple targets of diverse sizes co-exist in the same image. We observe that current metrics are size-sensitive, where larger objects are focused, and smaller ones tend to be ignored. We argue that the evaluation should be size-invariant because bias based on size is unjustified without additional semantic information. In pursuit of this, we propose a generic approach that evaluates each salient object separately and then combines the results, effectively alleviating the imbalance. We further develop an optimization framework tailored to this goal, achieving considerable improvements in detecting objects of different sizes. Theoretically, we provide evidence supporting the validity of our new metrics and present the generalization analysis of SOD. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. The main content of the research in this paper is the estimation of depth and pose based on monocular vision and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). The usual depth estimation network and pose estimation network require depth ground truth or pose ground truth as a supervised signal for training, while the depth ground truth and pose ground truth are hard to obtain, and monocular vision based depth estimation cannot predict absolute depth. In this paper, with the help of IMU, which is inexpensive and widely used, we can obtain angular velocity and acceleration information. Two new supervision signals are proposed and the calculation expressions are given. Among them, the model trained with acceleration constraint shows a good ability to estimate the absolute depth during the test. It can be considered that the model can estimate the absolute depth. We also derive the method of estimating the scale factor during the test from the acceleration constraint, and also achieve good results as the acceleration constraint does. In addition, this paper also studies the method of using IMU information as pose network input and as selecting conditions. Moreover, it analyzes and discusses the experimental results. At the same time, we also evaluate the effect of the pose estimation of the relevant models. This article starts by reviewing the achievements and deficiencies of the work in this field, combines the use of IMU, puts forward three new methods such as a new loss function, and conducts a test analysis and discussion of relevant indicators on the KITTI data set.

MBGD-RDA Training and Rule Pruning for Concise TSK Fuzzy Regression Models

To effectively train Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) fuzzy systems for regression problems, a Mini-Batch Gradient Descent with Regularization, DropRule, and AdaBound (MBGD-RDA) algorithm was recently proposed. It has demonstrated superior performances;however, there are also some limitations, e.g., it does not allow the user to specify the number of rules directly, and only Gaussian MFs can be used. This paper proposes two variants of MBGD-RDA to remedy these limitations, and show that they outperform the original MBGD-RDA and the classical ANFIS algorithms with the same number of rules. Furthermore, we also propose a rule pruning algorithm for TSK fuzzy systems, which can reduce the number of rules without significantly sacrificing the regression performance. Experiments showed that the rules obtained from pruning are generally better than training them from scratch directly, especially when Gaussian MFs are used. Copyright © 2020, The Authors.
