The development of multi-core processor makes the parallelization of traditional sequential algorithms increasingly important. Meanwhile, transactional memory serves a good parallel programming model. This paper takes the advantage of software transactional memory to parallelize the Multi-Exit Asymmetric Adaboost algorithm for face detection. The parallel version is evaluated on three different implementations of software transactional memory. The experiment results show that the transactional memory based parallelization outperforms the traditional lock based approach. A speedup of nearly seven is achieved on a eight-core machine on an eight-core system. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

Pervasive software should be able to adapt itself to the changing environments and user requirements. Obviously, it will bring great challenges to the software engineering practice. This paper proposes AUModel, a conceptual model for adaptive software, which takes adaptability as an inherent feature and can act as the foundation of the engineering process. By introducing AUModel, the reuse of software adaptation infrastructure as well as the separation of adaptation concerns are enabled, which can facilitate both the development and maintenance of adaptive software. This paper also presents our initial attempts to realize this model, including a middleware prototype to support this model and an application to validate its effectiveness. © 2014 IEEE.

Aiming at the fine-grained sentiment classification that distinguishes the emotional intensity, the commonly used dataset SST-1 is analyzed in depth. Through the analysis, it is found that the dataset has serious problems such as data imbalance and small overall scale, which seriously restricts the classification effect. In order to solve the related problems, data augmentation method is adopted to realize the optimization of the dataset. The IMDB and other data which are relatively homologous to the original dataset are annotated, and the focus is to expand the categories with fewer numbers. By this way, the problem of data imbalance is effectively alleviated and the original data scale is expanded. Then, based on the Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) model, which has good overall performance on natural language processing, the benchmark classification model is built. Through multiple comparison experiments on the original dataset and the enhanced data, the influence of the deficiency of the original dataset on the classification effect is verified. And, it is fully demonstrated that the enhanced data can effectively improve the test results and solve the problem of large differences in performance between different categories well. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In this paper, we propose a framework to automatically map single-device OpenCL programs to heterogeneous multi-device platforms with performance concerns. Our framework is based on the independence of work groups which built inside the OpenCL programming model and relies heavily on the knowledge of global memory access regions of work groups. So global memory access patterns of work groups are analyzed and an abstract representation CCRwS is designed to describe the exact memory access regions of each memory access statement in the kernels. A global memory access analyzer is designed to get CCRwSs by performing static program analysis on kernel codes. Based on CCRwSs, data transfer between multiple devices and host can be fully controlled by our framework. Then a kernel code regenerator is designed to distribute the workload and perform architecture specific optimizations by code transformation. Then we tested our framework on a platform with 2 Intel E5-2650 CPUs and 4 NVIDIA Tesla C2050 GPUs. Compared with the performance on single GPU, the kernels running on all the 6 devices can achieve about 4.5x faster.

Memory-intensive applications often suffer from the poor performance of disk swapping when memory is inadequate. Remote memory sharing schemes, which provide a remote memory that is faster than the local hard disk, are able to improve the performance of such applications. Due to the limitation of being applicable within single clusters only, however, most of the previous remote memory mechanisms, such as the network memory scheme, fail to be extendable into a large scale, distributed, heterogeneous, and dynamic environment. In this work, we propose a service-oriented grid memory sharing scheme, distributed Paging RAM Grid (DPRG). We study the properties and criteria of large scale memory sharing, and then design major operations and optimizations to fit the usage of grid systems. We collect trace from our grid environment, and evaluate DPRG through comprehensive trace-driven simulations. Results show that DPRG significantly outperforms existing remote memory sharing schemes and supports grid computing applications effectively. © 2006 IEEE.

In large-scale asynchronous distributed virtual environments(DVEs), one of the difficult problems is to deliver the concurrent events in a consistent order at each node. Generally, the previous consistency control approaches can be classified into two categories: causal order and time stamped order. However, causal order approaches can merely preserve the cause-effect relation of events and time stamped order approaches seem intrinsically complex to be used in serverless large-scale asynchronous DVEs. In this paper, we proposed a novel distributed algorithm to identify the concurrent events and preserve the consistent order delivery of them at different nodes. Simulation studies are also carried out to compare the performance of this algorithm with that of the previous ones. The results show that the new algorithm can effectively deliver the concurrent events in consistent order at each node and is more efficient than the previous algorithms in large-scale asynchronous DVEs.

Cybercrime caused by malware becomes a persistent and damaging threat which makes the trusted security solution urgently demanded, especially for resource-constrained ends. The existing industry and academic approaches provide available anti-malware systems based on different perspectives. However, it is hard to achieve high performance detection and data privacy protection simultaneously. This paper proposes a cloud-based anti-malware system, called RScam, which provides fast and trusted security service for the resource-constrained ends. In RScam, we present suspicious bucket filtering, a novel signature-based detection mechanism based on the reversible sketch structure, which provides retrospective and accurate orientations of malicious signature fragments. Then we design a lightweight client which utilizes the digest of signature fragments to sharply reduce detection range. Finally, we design balanced interaction mechanism, which transmits sketch coordinates of suspicious file fragments and transformation of malicious signature fragments between the client and cloud server to protect data privacy and reduce traffic volume. We evaluate the performance of RScam with campus suspicious traffic and normal files. The results demonstrate validity and veracity of the proposed mechanism. Document-level event extraction task has achieved significant progress based on template generation methods. However, there is no reasonable regulation and restriction in the existing template-based generation methods, which results in the uncontrollability of the generation results. In some scenarios, model generates entities that do not belong to the input text, or generate template content repeatedly. It is determined by the nature of the extraction task and the generation task. To this end, we propose a controllable template generation event extraction model. According to the characteristics of template generation and event extraction tasks, the model devises copy mechanism, inhibition mechanism and rejection mechanism under the appropriately constructed template. Our model achieves state-of-the-art result on MUC-4 dataset, and finally through experimental analysis, it demonstrates the effectiveness of each mechanism we proposed. © 2024 IEEE.

A construction technique of constant degree P2P systems towards efficient complex queries

Constant degree peer-to-peer (P2P) system is turning into the P2P domain's promising hotspot due to constant degree digraphs having good propertis. However, it is often hard to convert a stardard constant degree digraph to a DHT schema. Thus, most researches focus on DHT's construction and maintenance, while leaving optimization and supporting to complex query behind. Underlying topology affects upper-layers' character a lot. For constant degree P2P topologies, their inherent property makes a constant degree P2P system built using classical technique be poor in the data locality, and unfit for efficient, low-cost complex queries. Aiming at this shortage, a general-purpose construction technique towards efficient complex queries is proposed, which adds an embedding transformation layer between data layer and DHT overlay. In this way, adjacent data are stored in overlay's adjacent peers and the data locality is improved, so that the number of peers referred in complex queries can be minimized with a limited time overhead. To validate this technology, the first constant degree P2P system based on Kautz digraph FissionE is reconstructed as a typical example, which includes re-allocating of resources, query algorithm and locality maintenance strategies. Experimental results show that this construction technique can ensure data locality, reduce query cost and lead to systems' efficiency without changing the underlying DHT layer.

Nested Circular Directional MAC, a modified medium access control protocol of DMAC protocol, is proposed in this paper to support both directional antennas and omni-directional antennas simultaneously in one Ad Hoc network. Omni-directional antennas follow the RTS/CTS mechanism which is multi-hop and directional antennas follow the DRTS/DCTS mechanism, ensuring the asymmetric communication effectively. In order to resolve new deafness problem and hidden terminal problem, the directional antennas also use circular DRTS and nested antenna circumrotation. Simulation results show that NCDMAC supports hybrid antennas effectively and is better than MMAC and Circular-MAC in terms of increasing throughput, but it also increases the communication delay.
