Ultrafast-setting magnesium phosphate cement prepared from low-burned magnesium oxide for mixed stirring extrusion function integrated 3D printing applications

Regarding the issues of high cost, energy consumption and low activity in the existing preparation of magnesium phosphate cement (MPC) using heavy-burned magnesium oxide as raw material, this paper aims to prepare ultrafast-setting MPC using low-burned magnesium oxide. The objective was to explore the laws and mechanisms by which different magnesium oxide calcination temperatures affect the setting time, compressive and bond strengths, volumetric stability, and microstructure of MPC, thereby determining the optimal calcination temperature of magnesium oxide. Then, taking the setting time and compressive strength as performance indices, this paper determines the optimal baseline values of each component of MPC. Specifically, it ascertains the magnesium-phosphorus ratio, water-binder ratio, and borax doping amount. Subsequently, it integrates with the Mixed Stirring Extrusion Function Integrated 3D (MSEFI-3D) printing process to realize the application of MPC. The results reveal that, in comparison with MPC prepared from traditional heavy-burned magnesium oxide, appropriately reducing the calcination temperature of magnesium oxide can effectively enhance the mechanical properties of MPC and improve its volume stability. The compressive strength and interfacial bonding strength of MPC reach their optimal values when the calcination temperature of magnesium oxide is within the range of 850–950°C. Furthermore, the MPC prepared at this calcination temperature demonstrates excellent extrudability and constructability during the printing process. It can satisfy the requirements of 3D printing, thus providing a reference for the 3D-printing application of ultrafast - setting MPC prepared from low - burned magnesium oxide. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

This paper aims to address theissues of high cost and limited application of magnesium phosphate cement by using active light-burned magnesium oxide as the primary raw material to prepare magnesium phosphate cement. Additionally, a self-developed fast-setting concrete 3D printer is use to realize its 3D printing application. The study explores the effects of different metakaolin contents on the macroscopic properties, such as setting time, compressive strength, and interfacial bonding strength of active magnesium oxide magnesium phosphate cement. The effects of metakaolin on the hydration products and microscopic appearance of light-burned magnesium oxide magnesium phosphate cement were investigated. On this basis, an active magnesium oxide magnesium phosphate cement is selected for 3D printing performance test. The effects of rapid solidification 3D printing process and conventional pouring process on the microstructure and composition of magnesium phosphate cement were compared. The results show that 4 ~ 6% metakaolin improves the mechanical properties, bonding properties, and later stability of active magnesium oxide-based magnesium phosphate cement. The 3D printer that integrates quick-setting concrete, mixing, stirring, and extruding functions has been developed. It can successfully print active magnesium oxide type magnesium phosphate cement, and the components have good extrusion, construction, and mechanical properties. Compared with the traditional pouring process, this rapid 3D printing technology accelerates the formation of hydration products, but it may reduce the compactness of the components. © 2024, The Authors. Optimization design and regression model analysis of mechanical properties of 3D printed concrete

To investigate the effects of the basalt fiber volume ratio, fiber length, fly ash content, and water reducer dosage on the mechanical properties of 3D printed concrete (3DPC), a response surface regression model was constructed and optimized using a design of experiments with a desirability function. The measured values of compressive strength, flexural strength, and interlayer shear strength of 3DPC were compared with the predicted values from the model, validating the effectiveness and reliability of the response surface regression model. The research results indicate that with a volume fraction of basalt fibers at 1 %, a fiber length of 6 mm, a fly ash content of 29 %, and a water reducer content of 0.29 %, the mechanical properties of the 3DPC are closest to the expected values. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis reveals that the optimized concrete possesses a more dense internal microstructure, significantly enhancing its mechanical performance. Thus, applying the response surface regression model and the desirability function to the optimization of the mechanical properties of 3DPC offers a novel research approach and methodology for this field, possessing significant application reference value. Future research should investigate the comprehensive effects of environmental conditions and new materials on the mechanical properties of 3DPC, and validate the feasibility of optimization strategies in real-world engineering to foster further development and application of 3DPC technology.

This study investigates the effects of fine aggregate gradation on interlayer shear properties and constitutive relationships in 3D printed concrete (3DPC). Double shear tests and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis were conducted on specimens with four particle sizes for single-graded and four Fuller gradation curve exponents for continuous-graded, analyzing the effects of different gradations on shear strength and stress-strain curves of interlayer. Results show that increasing coarse aggregate proportion enhances interlayer shear strength from 6.32 MPa to 7.76 MPa. SEM reveals optimal microstructural density with strong aggregate-matrix bonding. Experimental stress-strain data were fitted using Gauss Amp and ExpGrowDec functions to establish elastoplastic constitutive models for single and continuous gradations, respectively. The derived models demonstrate high consistency with experimental curves, providing a foundation for theoretical and numerical simulations of 3DPC interlayer shear mechanics. Findings highlight gradation optimization as a critical factor in improving interfacial mechanical performance through macro-microstructural synergy. This study provides an in-depth analysis of the interlayer shear behavior of 3DPC materials to provide a flexible framework for future material design.

Based on overburden of S2S9 working face fully-mechanized mining of certain coal mine, this paper uses the finite element ADINA software to analyze the vertical stress and shear stress of overburden under the condition of coal mining, especially the vertical stress decreasing and increasing zones, concentrated stress change and to discuss the distribution scope, peak value and spatial relation with the working face of Tre- suptorping stress. In order to obtain overburden and surface deformation law, this paper takes S2S9 working face fully-mechanized mining of certain coal mine for example, uses the finite element ADINA software, and it establishes two-dimensional numerical model, analyzes overburden and surface deformation caused by the working face mining. The study shows the amount of each point movement in the top of the mined-out area gradually decreases from the bottom to up, and the range of surface movement is also increasing with advancement of the coal excavation. After the completion of the working face, it forms a subsidence curve which is symmetry for the maximum vertical point and an antisymmetric horizontal deformation curve. The zero point of horizontal movement is located above the center of mining sector, and the maximum tilt is 2.044mm·m-1. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Larger displacement and inter-force response of the structure will be produced when self-anchored cable-stayed suspension bridge in longitudinal earthquake. Engineering practice proved that the viscous damper has obviously damping effect for structure. For the vibration reduction system of self-anchored cable-stayed suspension bridge, whose main tower is set viscous damper. This essay does the nonlinear time history analysis under the longitudinal earthquake about the vibration reduction system that considering the LRB putted in different location. Compared with the damping system that only set viscous damper, analysis results show that inter-force and displacement of control section and control node are reduced greatly in hybrid vibration control. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Based on the background of Dalian Bay Cross-Sea Bridge project, some plans with settings of lead-rubber bearing among side pier, tower and stiffening girder have been analyzed under vertical seismic input using the favorable shearing property of laminated rubber, damping characteristics of lead and reasonable parameters (yield force and stiffness).
