This paper is concerned with solution of the consistent fundamental matrix estimation in a quadratic measurement error model. First an extended system for determining the estimator is proposed, and an efficient implementation for solving the system-a continuation method is developed to fix on an interval in which a local minimum belongs. Then an optimization method using a quadratic interpolation is used to exactly locate the minimum. The proposed method avoids solving total eigenvalue problems. Thus the computational cost is significantly reduced. Synthetic and real images are used to verify and illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

Under the framework of LPU (learning from positive data and unlabeled data), this paper originally proposes a three-step algorithm. First, Co-Training is employed for filtering out the "suspect positive" data from the unlabeled dataset U. If CoTraining filter out the most of positive data mixed in U, the remainder of U can be viewed as a negative set with a little noise. Second, a constrained KNN approach attempts to pick out the positive data from "suspect positive" dataset which is produced in first step. Those data picked out can be supplied to positive dataset P. Finally, a linear SVM will learn from both the purified U as negative and the expanded P as positive. Because of the algorithm's characteristic of automatic expanding positive dataset, the proposed algorithm especially performs well in situations where given positive dataset P is insufficient. A comprehensive experiment proves that our algorithm is preferable to the existing ones. Copyright © IICAI 2005.

In this paper, a relatively flexible filter called extended bilateral filter is proposed, by which some particular filters can be designed via selecting an appropriate pixel of interest (POI) and defining a kernel for the filter according to some specified requirements. Based on the filter, a fluorescein-angiogram-oriented filter, high-intensity preserving (HIP) filter is introduced to solve the problems of high-intensity preservation when denoising. The results of the experiments show that the HIP filter has the ability of noise suppression, and the ability of high-intensity preservation, which can keep the intensities of bright pixels from degrading via distributing the weights adaptively according to the location and the intensity of each pixel. © 2005 IEEE.

Fourier-Mellin transform (FMT) is frequently used in content-based image retrieval and digital image watermarking. This paper extends the application of FMT into image registration and proposes an improved registration algorithm based on FMT for the alignment of images differing in translation, rotation angle, and uniform scale factor. The proposed algorithm can eliminate the conversion from Cartesian to log-polar coordinates, avoid the process of interpolation required in the conversion, and obtain a more significant improvement than the conventional method using cross-correlation. Experiments show that the algorithm is accurate and robust regardless of white noise. © 2005 IEEE.

In this article, we investigate the problem of preparing qualitative spatial relations before implementing spatial data mining by checking consistency in a constraint network, which includes topological and cardinal directional relations between pairs of spatial objects. We aim to explore potential spatial relations and possible inconsistency among the data of relationships for enforcing the correctness of spatial data mining. This task is carried out through qualitative spatial reasoning method, specifically consistency checking. We try to lay the theoretical foundation for this kind of problem. Instead of using conventional composition tables, we investigate the interactions between topological and cardinal directional relations with the aid of rules. These rules are shown to be sound, i.e. the deductions are logically correct. Based on these rules, an improved constraint propagation algorithm is introduced to enforce the path consistency. An example is presented to show the utility of these rules. © 2005 IEEE.

Intensity degradations are a familiar problem for fluorescein angiogram sequences. In this paper, we attempt to super-resolve a fluorescein angiogram, and to keep the high intensity pixels from degrading. To this end, we incorporate a new constraint, called intensity constraint, to Miller's regularization formulation with a smoothness constraint. Considering the specified requirement for fluorescein angiograms, we also modify the Q-th order converging algorithm for implementation purpose. In our scheme, including its formulation and implementation, super-resolution reconstruction can not only handle the traditional problems, such as blur, decimation, and noise, but also achieve an important feature, intensity preservation. The experiments show that our approach has satisfactory results in the two aspects. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

A voting-mechanism-based fuzzy neural network system is proposed in this paper. When constructing the network structure, a generalized class cover problem is presented and its two solving algorithm, an improved greedy algorithm and a binary particle swarm optimization algorithm, are proposed to get the class covers with relatively even radii, which are used to partition fuzzy input space and extract fewer robust fuzzy IF-THEN rules. Meanwhile, a weighted Mamdani inference mechanism is adopted to improve the efficiency of the system output and a real-valued particle swarm optimization-based algorithm is used to refine the system parameters. Experimental results show that the system is feasible and effective. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

The proxy cache for streaming media is the important method to economize the resources of the Internet. The cache policies influence the effect for proxy cache. In this paper, based on the client's request rate, cached the video based on segmentation, we proposed that the method for batch, patch and batch patching using dynamic cache. The policies of batch and batch patching using dynamic cache based on segmentation enlarge the width of the batch and patching. It combines dynamic cache based on segmentation with the excellence of patching. Presented that allocation relation between the segmented cache and dynamic cache in the batch and patching, and assured that batch patching using dynamic cache of proxy for streaming media based on segmentation is optimal. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

Modal logics are good candidates for a formal theory of agents. The efficiency of reasoning method in modal logics is very important, because it determines whether or not the reasoning method can be widely used in systems based on agent. In this paper, we modify the extension rule theorem proving method we presented before, and then apply it to P-logic that is translated from modal logic by functional transformation. At last, we give the proof of its soundness and completeness.

This paper proposes a novel registration algorithm based on Pseudo-Polar Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Analytical Fourier-Mellin Transform (AFMT) for the alignment of images differing in translation, rotation angle, and uniform scale factor. The proposed algorithm employs the AFMT of the Fourier magnitude to determine all the geometric transformation parameters with its property of the invariance to translation and rotation. Besides, the proposed algorithm adopt a fast high accuracy conversion from Cartesian to polar coordinates based on the pseudo-polar FFT and the conversion from the pseudo-polar to the polar grid, which involves only ID interpolations, and obtain a more significant improvement in accuracy than the conventional method using cross-correlation. Experiments show that the algorithm is accurate and robust regardless of white noise. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
