Fourier-Mellin transform (FMT) is frequently used in content-based image retrieval and digital image watermarking. This paper extends the application of FMT into image registration and proposes an improved registration algorithm based on FMT for the alignment of images differing in translation, rotation angle, and uniform scale factor. The proposed algorithm can eliminate the conversion from Cartesian to log-polar coordinates, avoid the process of interpolation required in the conversion, and obtain a more significant improvement than the conventional method using cross-correlation. Experiments show that the algorithm is accurate and robust regardless of white noise. © 2005 IEEE.

Visual voice lip-reading, so the computer can understand what the speakers want to express direction by looking at their lips. Lip reading is the easiest way to compare the early characters and templates from the frozen image is stored. It ignores the very nature and time changes. This method is very simple, but it's just simple elements can be classified, then it may not show significant speech recognition services. Behavior was characterized by more and more common. Because of the hidden Markov model is superior (HMM), which can be widely used in speech recognition. In recent years, is also used to lip reading identification. Classical HMM model, so that the two assumptions: hidden assumptions collected: in t+1 the state can only be in this country is not in the state before t;from the hidden visible state hypothesis: only by regulating the t hide the visible state, rather than the previous state. This hypothesis is not very useful in some applications (such as lip reading) is reasonable. Under certain conditions, in the t state not only limits the t1, but also t2. Therefore, this study modified the assumptions of the classical HMM to derive a new HMM model and algorithms, and applied to the lip-reading recognition is increasing discrimination. © 2011 IEEE.

Are Your Apps Accessible? A GCN-based Accessibility Checker for Low Vision Users

Context: Accessibility issues (e.g., small size and narrow interval) in mobile applications (apps) lead to obstacles for billions of low vision users in interacting with Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs). Although GUI accessibility scanning tools exist, most of them perform rule-based check relying on complex GUI hierarchies. This might make them detect invisible redundant information, cannot handle small deviations, omit similar components, and is hard to extend. Objective: In this paper, we propose a novel approach, named ALVIN (Accessibility Checker for Low Vision), which represents the GUI as a graph and adopts the Graph Convolutional Neural Networks (GCN) to label inaccessible components. Method: ALVIN removes invisible views to prevent detecting redundancy and uses annotations from low vision users to handle small deviations. Also, the GCN model could consider the relations between GUI components, connecting similar components and reducing the possibility of omission. ALVIN only requires users to annotate the relevant dataset when detecting new kinds of issues. Results: Our experiments on 48 apps demonstrate the effectiveness of ALVIN, with precision of 83.5%, recall of 78.9%, and F1-score of 81.2%, outperforming baseline methods. In RQ2, the usefulness is verified through 20 issues submitted to open-source apps. The RQ3 also illustrates the GCN model is better than other models. Conclusion: To summarize, our proposed approach can effectively detect accessibility issues in GUIs for low vision users, thereby guiding developers in fixing them efficiently. Causality represents the most important kind of correlation between events. Extracting causality from text has become a promising hot topic in NLP. However, there is no mature research systems, evaluation rules and datasets for public evaluation. Moreover, there is a lack of unified causal sequence labeling methods, which constitute the key factors that hinder the progress of causality extraction research. We survey the limitations and shortcomings of existing causality research field comprehensively from the aspects of basic concepts, extraction methods, experimental data, and labeling methods, so as to provide reference for future research on causality extraction. We summarize the existing causality datasets, explore their practicability and extensibility from multiple perspectives. Aiming at the problem of causal sequence labeling, we analyze the existing methods of causal sequence labeling, with a summarizations of its regulation. Multiple candidate causal labeling sequences are put forward according to labeling controversy to explore the optimal labeling method through experiments, and suggestions are provided for selecting labeling method. © 2020 COLING 2020 - 28th International Conference on computational Linguistics, Proceedings of the Conference. Ordered proposition fusion based on consistency and uncertainty measurements

The fusion of ordered propositions is an important and widespread problem in artificial intelligence,but existing fusion methods have difficulty handling the fusion of ordered propositions. In this paper, we propose a solution based on consistency and uncertainty measurements. The main contributions of this paper are as follows. First, we propose the concept of convexity degree, mean, and center of basic support function to comprehensively describe the basic support function of ordered propositions. Second, we introduce entropy as a measure of uncertainty in the basic support function of ordered propositions. Third, we generalize the indeterminacy of the basic support function and propose a novel method to measure the consistency between two basic support functions. Finally, based on the above researches, we propose a novel algorithm for fusing ordered propositions. Theoretical analysis and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art methods.

Image annotation refinement using dynamic weighted voting based on mutual information

Automatic image annotation is a promising solution to narrow the semantic gap between low-level content and high-level semantic concept, which has been an active research area in the fields of image retrieval, pattern recognition, and machine learning. However, even the most dedicated annotation algorithms are often unsatisfactory. Image annotation refinement has attracted much more attention recently. In this paper, a novel refinement algorithm using dynamic voting based on mutual information is proposed. Unlike the traditional refinement algorithm, the proposed algorithm adopts dynamic weighted voting to measure the dependence between the candidate annotations, which not only permits that the annotations with higher probabilities deny the annotations with lower probabilities, but also permits that the annotations with lower probabilities deny the annotations with higher probabilities. The proposed refinement algorithm adopts progressive method instead of iterative, which can significantly decrease the time cost of refining annotations. In order to further improve efficiency without sacrificing precision, we propose the block-based normalized cut algorithm to segment image. Experiments conducted on standard Washington Ground Truth Image Database demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed approach for refining image annotations. © 2011 ACADEMY PUBLISHER.

Adaptive feature selection and extraction approaches for image retrieval based on region

Image retrieval based on region is one of the most promising and active research directions in recent year's CBIR, while region segmentation, feature selection and feature extraction of region are key issues. However, the existing approaches always adopt a uniform approach of segmentation and feature extraction for all images in the same system. In this paper, we propose adaptive image segmentation and feature extraction approach according to different category image for image retrieval system. To improve performance, we propose adaptive segmentation approach according to different category image. Textured image is segmented by Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM), while non-textured image is segmented by our proposed block-based normalized cut. To accurately describe feature of region, we propose weight assignment method for centroid pixel and its neighbor by convolution with normal distribution when image segmentation by GMM. To improve generalization, we propose adaptive number of Fourier descriptors of shape signature which depends on the energy distribution of Fourier descriptors, instead of fixed number by experience. To simply and efficiently describe the spatial relationships of multi-object or multi-region in same image, we apply simplified topological relationships. The experiments demonstrate that proposed approaches are superior to the traditional approaches. © 2010 ACADEMY PUBLISHER.

In this paper, we investigate the deficiency of Goyal and Egenhofer's method for modeling cardinal directional relations between simple regions and provide the computational model based on the concept of mathematical morphology, which can be a complement and refinement of Goyal and Egenhofer's model for crisp regions. Based on fuzzy set theory, we extend Goyal and Egenhofer's model to handle fuzziness and provide a computational model based on alpha-morphology, which combines fuzzy set theory and mathematical morphology, to refine the fuzzy cardinal directional relations. Then the computational problems are investigated. We also give an example of spatial configuration in 2-dimensional discrete space. The experiment results confirm the cognitive plausibility of our computational models. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

Don’t Confuse! Redrawing GUI Navigation Flow in Mobile Apps for Visually Impaired Users

Mobile applications (apps) are integral to our daily lives, offering diverse services and functionalities. They enable sighted users to access information coherently in an extremely convenient manner. However, it remains unclear if visually impaired users, who rely solely on the screen readers (e.g., Talkback) to navigate and access app information, can do so in the correct and reasonable order. This may result in significant information bias and operational errors. Furthermore, in our preliminary exploration, we explained and clarified that the navigation sequence-related issues encountered by visually impaired users could be categorized into two types: unintuitive navigation sequence and unapparent focus switching. Considering these issues, in this work, we proposed a method named RGNF (Re-draw GUI Navigation Flow). It aimed to enhance the understandability and coherence of accessing the content of each component within the Graphical User Interface (GUI), together with assisting developers in creating well-designed GUI navigation flow (GNF). This method was inspired by the characteristics identified in our preliminary study, where visually impaired users expected navigation to be associated with close position and similar shape of GUI components that were read consecutively. Thus, our method relied on the principles derived from the Gestalt psychological model, aiming to group GUI components into different regions according to the laws of proximity and similarity, thereby redrawing the GNFs. To evaluate the effectiveness of our method, we calculated sequence similarity values before and after redrawing the GNF, and further employed the tools proposed by Alotaibi et al. to measure the reachability of GUI components. Our results demonstrated a substantial improvement in similarity (0.921) compared to the baseline (0.624), together with the reachability (90.31%) compared to the baseline GNF (74.35%). Accurate segmentation of polyps from colonoscopy images is of great significance for the prevention of colorectal cancer. Despite notable progress, polyp segmentation remains a challenging task due to the diversity of polyp size and shape, as well as the camouflage property of polyps caused by their high similarity to surrounding tissues. To address these challenges, inspired by human perceptual experience in finding objects, we propose a multi-perspective collaborative network (MPCNet), innovatively identifying the potential polyps from the perspectives of matching views and seeking camouflage. Firstly, from the former perspective, a global–local aware module is proposed to provide various feature receptive fields to match suitable views for polyps of different sizes and shapes. Then, from the latter perspective, a texture enhancement module (TEM) and an interaction refinement module (IRM) are proposed to mine and complement clues essential for breaking the camouflage. Specifically, TEM mines texture-related clues and amplifies the subtle texture differences between polyps and their background, while IRM complements boundary clues and further optimizes feature representation through the interaction between boundaries and regions, thereby generating accurate segmentation results with complete regions and fine boundaries. Extensive experiments on five benchmark polyp datasets show that our MPCNet outperforms other state-of-the-art methods. In particular, we achieve a mean Dice of 81.7% and 82.4% on the most challenging datasets CVC-ColonDB and ETIS, respectively, which are significantly higher than competing methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.
