Neural models produce promising results when solving Vehicle Routing Problems (VRPs), but may often fall short in generalization. Recent attempts to enhance model generalization often incur unnecessarily large training cost or cannot be directly applied to other models solving different VRP variants. To address these issues, we take a novel perspective on model architecture in this study. Specifically, we propose a plug-and-play Entropy-based Scaling Factor (ESF) and a Distribution-Specific (DS) decoder to enhance the size and distribution generalization, respectively. ESF adjusts the attention weight pattern of the model towards familiar ones discovered during training when solving VRPs of varying sizes. The DS decoder explicitly models VRPs of multiple training distribution patterns through multiple auxiliary light decoders, expanding the model representation space to encompass a broader range of distributional scenarios. We conduct extensive experiments on both synthetic and widely recognized real-world benchmarking datasets and compare the performance with seven baseline models. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of using ESF and DS decoder to obtain a more generalizable model and showcase their applicability to solve different VRP variants, i.e., travelling salesman problem and capacitated VRP. Notably, our proposed generic components require minimal computational resources, and can be effortlessly integrated into conventional generalization strategies to further elevate model generalization. Image retrieval algorithm based on response value center weighted convolution feature

A novel cross-entropy-based loss is proposed，which is applied to a classical convolutional neural network to obtain a better embedding space. A convolutional feature aggregation algorithm based on the weighting of the center of the response value is designed to process the three-dimensional convolutional features obtained by the neural network. The algorithm obtains the spatial weighting coefficient of the feature map by calculating the current position response value and the Gaussian center. The algorithm reduces the loss of information when the 3D convolution feature map is reduced to a 1D image feature descriptor and realizes the enhancement of the target area. Finally，the obtained image feature descriptors are used for retrieval tasks. On the CUB-200-2011 dataset，the effectiveness of the loss function and the response value center weighting algorithm are respectively verified by ablation experiments. Compared with the current retrieval methods，higher precision and recall rates have been obtained on the four datasets of Paris6k，Oxford5k，CUB-200-2011 and CARS196. © 2022 Editorial Board of Jilin University. Over the past decade, the dominance of deep learning has prevailed across various domains of artificial intelligence, including natural language processing, computer vision, and biomedical signal processing. While there have been remarkable improvements in model accuracy, deploying these models on lightweight devices, such as mobile phones and microcontrollers, is constrained by limited resources. In this survey, we provide comprehensive design guidance tailored for these devices, detailing the meticulous design of lightweight models, compression methods, and hardware acceleration strategies. The principal goal of this work is to explore methods and concepts for getting around hardware constraints without compromising the model's accuracy. Additionally, we explore two notable paths for lightweight deep learning in the future: deployment techniques for TinyML and Large Language Models. Although these paths undoubtedly have potential, they also present significant challenges, encouraging research into unexplored areas. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

With the aim of resolving the issue of cluster analysis more precisely and validly, a new approach was proposed based on biogeography-based optimization (abbreviated as BBO) algorithm. (Method) First, we reformulated the problem with an optimization model based on the variance ratio criterion (VARAC). Then, BBO was presented to search the optimal solution of the VARAC. There are 400 data of four groups in the experimental dataset, which have the degrees of overlapping of three distinct scales. The first one is nonoverlapping, the second one is partial overlapping, and the last is severely overlapping. BBO algorithm was compared with three different state-of-the-art approaches. We ran every algorithm 20 times. In this experiment, our results demonstrate the maximum VARAC values that can be found by BBO. The conclusion is that BBO is predominant which is extremely quick for the issue of clustering analysis. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2017.

Consistency label-activated region generating network for weakly supervised medical image segmentation

The current methods of auto-segmenting medical images are limited due to insufficient and ambiguous pathonmorphological labeling. In clinical practice, rough classification labels (such as disease or normal) are more commonly used than precise segmentation masks. However, there is still much to be explored regarding utilizing these weak clinical labels to accurately determine the lesion mask and guide medical image segmentation. In this paper, we proposed a weakly supervised medical image segmentation model to directly generate the lesion mask through a class activation map (CAM) guided cycle-consistency label-activated region transferring network. Cycle-consistency enforces that the mappings between the two domains should be reversible, which ensures that the original image can be reconstructed from the translated image. We developed a complementary branches fusion module to address the issue of blurry boundaries in CAM-guided segmentation. The complementary branch preserves the original semantic information of the non-lesion region and perfectly fuses the transferred feature of the lesion region with a complementary mask-constrained fake image generation process to clear the boundary of the lesion and non-lesion regions. This module allows the class transformation to focus solely on the label-activated region, resulting in more explicit segmentation. This model can accurately identify different region of medical images at the pixel-level while preserving the overall semantic structure semantion. It organizes disease labels and corresponding regions during image synthesis. Our method utilizes a joint discrimination strategy that significantly enhances the precision of the produced lesion mask. Extensive experiments of the proposed method on BraTs, ISIC and COVID-19 datasets demonstrate superior performance over existing state-of-the-art methods. Optical flow computation based on spline functionals

A mathematical model using the spline functional as smooth constraints was presented. The second-and fourth-order partial differential equations constraints were two special cases in the model. The necessary condition for optical flow minimization problem solution was also presented. This model provided a basis for formal representation and numerical computation of optical flow from a methodological point of view. The significance of this mathematical model lay in the simplification of the equations for optical flow computation into linear algebraic equations. The simplification can contribute to discrete representation of the optical flow equation, and also verify that the use of smoothness constraints can ensure the existence and uniqueness of the solution from the view of the algebraic equations.

Intensity preserving technology in image restoration

A new approach of image restoration for the sequence of fluorescein angiography was proposed. First, the intensity constraint was incorporated into Miller regularization equation to obtain the ability to preserve the high intensity of pixels. Thus, the restored image would be influenced not only by the smoothness constraints, but also by the intensity constraints. Secondly, in the process of the restoration, we use an intensity template obtained from the pre-filtering procedure was used to achieve the intensity constraints. The template represented an image composed by the desired intensity value. The experiments show that the proposed scheme gains a better result in both high intensity preservation and image restoration.

Object Attribute Matters in Visual Question Answering

Visual question answering is a multimodal task that requires the joint comprehension of visual and textual information. However, integrating visual and textual semantics solely through attention layers is insufficient to comprehensively understand and align information from both modalities. Intuitively, object attributes can naturally serve as a bridge to unify them, which has been overlooked in previous research. In this paper, we propose a novel VQA approach from the perspective of utilizing object attribute, aiming to achieve better object-level visual-language alignment and multimodal scene understanding. Specifically, we design an attribute fusion module and a contrastive knowledge distillation module. The attribute fusion module constructs a multimodal graph neural network to fuse attributes and visual features through message passing. The enhanced object-level visual features contribute to solving fine-grained problem like counting-question. The better object-level visual-language alignment aids in understanding multimodal scenes, thereby improving the model’s robustness. Furthermore, to augment scene understanding and the out-of-distribution performance, the contrastive knowledge distillation module introduces a series of implicit knowledge. We distill knowledge into attributes through contrastive loss, which further strengthens the representation learning of attribute features and facilitates visual-linguistic alignment. Intensive experiments on six datasets, COCO-QA, VQAv2, VQA-CPv2, VQA-CPv1, VQAvs and TDIUC, show the superiority of the proposed method. © 2023, CC BY.

With the impressive achievements of chatGPT and Sora, generative artificial intelligence (GAI) has received increasing attention. Not limited to the field of content generation, GAI is also widely used to solve the problems in wireless communication scenarios due to its powerful learning and generalization capabilities. Therefore, we discuss key applications of GAI in improving unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communication and networking performance in this article. Specifically, we first review the key technologies of GAI and the important roles of UAV networking. Then, we show how GAI can improve the communication, networking, and security performances of UAV systems. Subsequently, we propose a novel framework of GAI for advanced UAV networking, and then present a case study of UAV-enabled spectrum map estimation and transmission rate optimization based on the proposed framework to verify the effectiveness of GAI-enabled UAV systems. Finally, we discuss some important open directions. © 2024 IEEE.

Novel trusted authentication and evaluation framework in VANET

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET) have many new characteristics unlike tranditional network, such as centriclessness, mobility and multi-hop transmission, which invalidate conventional key managements. The fast development and successful application of trusted computing technology provide a potential solution to achieve effective authentication and trust evaluation. According to the VANET with self-organization, a new authentication and trust evaluation framework was proposed based on trusted computing technology, the concepts of "trusted attribute" and "trusted grade" were introduced, and the key management architecture as well as authentication process of mobile node were explained in detail. Moreover, the potential real application of the presented framework was discussed, and the trust evaluation method and its argumentation in the presented framework were given.
