UAV-enabled Collaborative Beamforming via Multi-Agent Deep Reinforcement Learning

In this paper, we investigate an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assistant air-to-ground communication system, where multiple UAVs form a UAV-enabled virtual antenna array (UVAA) to communicate with remote base stations by utilizing collaborative beamforming. To improve the work efficiency of the UVAA, we formulate a UAV-enabled collaborative beamforming multi-objective optimization problem (UCBMOP) to simultaneously maximize the transmission rate of the UVAA and minimize the energy consumption of all UAVs by optimizing the positions and excitation current weights of all UAVs. This problem is challenging because these two optimization objectives conflict with each other, and they are non-concave to the optimization variables. Moreover, the system is dynamic, and the cooperation among UAVs is complex, making traditional methods take much time to compute the optimization solution for a single task. In addition, as the task changes, the previously obtained solution will become obsolete and invalid. To handle these issues, we leverage the multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (MADRL) to address the UCBMOP. Specifically, we use the heterogeneous-agent trust region policy optimization (HATRPO) as the basic framework, and then propose an improved HATRPO algorithm, namely HATRPO-UCB, where three techniques are introduced to enhance the performance. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can learn a better strategy compared with other methods. An Empirical Study on Information Extraction using Large Language Models

Human-like large language models (LLMs), especially the most powerful and popular ones in OpenAI’s GPT family, have proven to be very helpful for many natural language processing (NLP) related tasks. Therefore, various attempts have been made to apply LLMs to information extraction (IE), which is a fundamental NLP task that involves extracting information from unstructured plain text. To demonstrate the latest representative progress in LLMs’ information extraction ability, we assess the information extraction ability of GPT-4 (the latest version of GPT at the time of writing this paper) from four perspectives: Performance, Evaluation Criteria, Robustness, and Error Types. Our results suggest a visible performance gap between GPT-4 and state-of-the-art (SOTA) IE methods. To alleviate this problem, considering the LLMs’ human-like characteristics, we propose and analyze the effects of a series of simple prompt-based methods, which can be generalized to other LLMs and NLP tasks. Rich experiments show our methods’ effectiveness and some of their remaining issues in improving GPT-4’s information extraction ability. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Reinforced iterative knowledge distillation for cross-lingual named entity recognition

Named entity recognition (NER) is a fundamental component in many applications, such as Web Search and Voice Assistants. Although deep neural networks greatly improve the performance of NER, due to the requirement of large amounts of training data, deep neural networks can hardly scale out to many languages in an industry setting. To tackle this challenge, cross-lingual NER transfers knowledge from a rich-resource language to languages with low resources through pre-trained multilingual language models. Instead of using training data in target languages, cross-lingual NER has to rely on only training data in source languages, and optionally adds the translated training data derived from source languages. However, the existing cross-lingual NER methods do not make good use of rich unlabeled data in target languages, which is relatively easy to collect in industry applications. To address the opportunities and challenges, in this paper we describe our novel practice in Microsoft to leverage such large amounts of unlabeled data in target languages in real production settings. To effectively extract weak supervision signals from the unlabeled data, we develop a novel approach based on the ideas of semi-supervised learning and reinforcement learning. The empirical study on three benchmark data sets verifies that our approach establishes the new state-of-the-art performance with clear edges. Now, the NER techniques reported in this paper are on their way to become a fundamental component for Web ranking, Entity Pane, Answers Triggering, and Question Answering in the Microsoft Bing search engine. Moreover, our techniques will also serve as part of the Spoken Language Understanding module for a commercial voice assistant. The Traditional Chinese Medicine's ancient literature recorded the massive medical theories and abundant medical experiences. To better understand and utilize, the knowledge from the literature, the Acupuncture and Tuina knowledge Graph is proposed in this paper. Meanwhile, a deep learning network is established for acupuncture and tuina-related entity recognition and entity-relationship extraction. Finally, the trained network is able to reach an 82%+ F1-score for NER and 70%+ F1-score for relationship extraction. © 2021 IEEE.

Fast Explainable Recommendation Model by Combining Fine-Grained Sentiment in Review Data

With the rapid development of e-commerce, recommendation system has become one of the main tools that assists users in decision-making, enhances user's experience, and creates economic value. Since it is difficult to explain the implicit features generated by matrix factorization, explainable recommendation system has attracted more and more attention recently. In this paper, we propose an explainable fast recommendation model by combining fine-grained sentiment in review data (FSER, (Fast) Fine-grained Sentiment for Explainable Recommendation). We innovatively construct user-rating matrix, user-aspect sentiment matrix, and item aspect-descriptive word frequency matrix from the review-based data. And the three matrices are reconstructed by matrix factorization method. The reconstructed results of user-aspect sentiment matrix and item aspect-descriptive word frequency matrix can provide explanation for the final recommendation results. Experiments in the Yelp and Public Comment datasets demonstrate that, compared with several classical models, the proposed FSER model is in the optimal recommendation accuracy range and has lower sparseness and higher training efficiency than tensor models or neural network models;furthermore, it can generate explanatory texts and diagrams that have high interpretation quality. © 2022 Ying Wang et al.

The use of deep learning for fault diagnosis is already a commonly used method. However, complex operating conditions under different working conditions significantly impact bearing vibration signals. Integrating the discriminative information of fault type and size into the deep learning model to achieve rich multi-task fault feature diagnosis still deserves attention. This study proposes a deep multi-task-based multi-scale feature fusion network MEAT(multi-task-based deep multi-scale feature fusion network) model to address these issues. Solve the limitations and poor adaptability of traditional convolutional neural network models under complex work. This model considers two sub-tasks, fault scale discrimination, and fault type discrimination, in the fault diagnosis multi-classification task through multi-task mapping decomposition. First, multi-dimensional features are extracted by convolution at different scales to obtain multi-dimensional fault information at different levels. Then these features are weighted and fused using a multi-layer attention mechanism to get accurate diagnosis results of bearing faults. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper is concerned with the unique identification of the shape of a scatterer through a single far-field pattern in an inverse elastic medium scattering problem with a generalized transmission boundary condition. The uniqueness issue by a single far-field measurement is a challenging problem in inverse scattering theory, which has a long and colorful history. In this paper, we demonstrate the well-posedness of the direct problem by the variational approach. We establish the uniqueness results by a single far-field measurement under a generic scenario when dealing with underlying elastic scatterers exhibiting polygonal-nest or polygonal-cell structures. Furthermore, for a polygonal-nest or polygonal-cell structure scatterer associated with density and boundary impedance parameters as piecewise constants, we show that these physical quantities can be uniquely determined simultaneously by a single far-field measurement. Existing fake news detection methods aim to classify a piece of news as true or false and provide veracity explanations, achieving remarkable performances. However, they often tailor automated solutions on manual fact-checked reports, suffering from limited news coverage and debunking delays. When a piece of news has not yet been fact-checked or debunked, certain amounts of relevant raw reports are usually disseminated on various media outlets, containing the wisdom of crowds to verify the news claim and explain its verdict. In this paper, we propose a novel Coarse-to-fine Cascaded Evidence-Distillation (CofCED) neural network for explainable fake news detection based on such raw reports, alleviating the dependency on fact-checked ones. Specifically, we first utilize a hierarchical encoder for web text representation, and then develop two cascaded selectors to select the most explainable sentences for verdicts on top of the selected top-K reports in a coarse-to-fine manner. Besides, we construct two explainable fake news datasets, which are publicly available. Experimental results demonstrate that our model significantly outperforms state-of-the-art baselines and generates high-quality explanations from diverse evaluation perspectives. Qualitative Spatial Reasoning with Oriented Point Relation in 3D Space

Among qualitative direction relation models, Oriented point relation algebra（OPRAm） is a remarkable model for robot navigation with uncertain direction information. It has great advantages in providing powerful expressions with very limited information compared with other point-based spatial relation *** original OPRAm is defined in 2D space, and its model and reasoning algorithm are found not applicable in 3D space. We proposed a novel direction relation model named OPRA3Dmto extend the original OPRAm to 3D space,and presented a new reasoning algorithm on Oriented point relation algebra in three dimension（OPRA3Dm）. A further study was carried out for composition reasoning on OPRA3Dm. The proposed reasoning algorithm will deduce new information which cannot be directly detected by hardware. The experiment showed the algorithm had some practical significance, it can be applied to the Unmanned aerial vehicle（UAV） navigation and similar scenarios.
