Constructing uniform design tables based on restart discrete dynamical evolutionary algorithm

Generating uniform design tables (UDTs) is the first step to experimenting efficiently and effectively, and is also one of the most critical steps. Thus, the construction of uniform design tables has received much attention over the past decades. This paper presents a new algorithm for constructing uniform design tables: restart discrete dynamical evolutionary algorithm (RDDE). This algorithm is based on a well-designed dynamical evolutionary algorithm and utilizes discrete rounding technology to convert continuous variables into discrete variables. Considering the optimization of UDT is a multi-objective optimization problem, RDDE uses Friedman rank to select the optimal solution with better comprehensive comparison ranking. RDDE also utilizes a simulated annealing-based restart technology to select control parameters, thereby increasing the algorithm's ability to jump out of local optima. Comparisons with state-of-the-art UDTs and two practical engineering examples are presented to verify the uniformity of the design table constructed by RDDE. Numerical results indicate that RDDE can indeed construct UDTs with excellent uniformity at different levels, factors, and runs. Especially, RDDE can flexibly construct UDTs with unequal intervals of factors that cannot be directly processed by other designs of experiment. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

The explosive growth of terminal devices at the network edge, coupled with advancements in communication technology, poses significant challenges to traditional cloud computing models. Despite Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) mitigating some issues by enabling real-time data processing closer to the source, it faces challenges with linear growth in computational resources insufficient to meet the exponential growth in service demand. Existing research utilizing software-Defined Networking (SDN), Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), and Service Function Chain (SFC) technologies has made progress but still faces critical issues, such as the inability to respond in real-time to dynamic demands and inefficiencies in resource management strategies. This paper addresses these challenges by optimizing Virtual Network Function (VNF) deployment strategies in MEC environments. We propose PPO-ERA, a novel algorithm leveraging deep reinforcement learning and the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) method. This approach provides real-time, adaptive, and dynamic deployment policies for VNFs, significantly improving both the average response delay of tasks and resource utilization. key contributions include rigorous SFC-based application modeling, dynamic VNF deployment algorithms, elastic resource allocation, uniform state representation, and extensive performance validation. These advancements enhance the adaptability, efficiency, and performance of VNF deployment strategies, addressing critical challenges in dynamic MEC environments. © 2024 IEEE.

Exploration strategy design is a challenging problem in reinforcement learning(RL),especially when the environment contains a large state space or sparse *** exploration,the agent tries to discover unexplored(novel)areas or high reward(quality)*** existing methods perform exploration by only utilizing the novelty of *** novelty and quality in the neighboring area of the current state have not been well utilized to simultaneously guide the agent’s *** address this problem,this paper proposes a novel RL framework,called clustered reinforcement learning(CRL),for efficient exploration in *** adopts clustering to divide the collected states into several clusters,based on which a bonus reward reflecting both novelty and quality in the neighboring area(cluster)of the current state is given to the *** leverages these bonus rewards to guide the agent to perform efficient ***,CRL can be combined with existing exploration strategies to improve their performance,as the bonus rewards employed by these existing exploration strategies solely capture the novelty of *** on four continuous control tasks and six hard-exploration Atari-2600 games show that our method can outperform other state-of-the-art methods to achieve the best performance.

Identification and Segmentation of Camellia Oleifera Branches to be Pruned Based on Improved YOLOv8-seg

An improved recognition and segmentation model for pruning branches of Camellia oleifera trees based on YOLOv8n-seg was proposed, aiming to address the challenges posed by dense interleaving of branches, severe occlusion, and complex shape characteristics. The SPPF module was replaced with the SPPFCSPC module, DCNv2 was introduced into the C2f module, and Wise-IoU v3 loss function replaced CIoU loss function. The experimental findings reveal that the enhanced YOLOv8n-seg model exhibits a remarkably compact size of merely 9.56MB, rendering it exceptionally well-suited for deployment. The recognition mean Average Precision (box-mAP) and the mask mean Average Precision (mask-mAP) on the dataset of Camellia oleifera branches necessitating pruning stand at an impressive 97.9% and 96%, respectively, surpassing the original model by 1.1% and 1.2%. This advancement effectively mitigates challenges associated with intricate shape features and occlusion in Camellia oleifera branches requiring pruning. Furthermore, the inference time for a single image is a swift 39.5ms. © (2025), (International Association of Engineers). All rights reserved.

The proliferation of mobile devices and the increasing demand for portable services have led to a surge in computationally intensive and time-sensitive applications, necessitating efficient computation offloading in Mobile Edge Computing. Existing research often overlooks the distinct response time requirements of different applications and their mutual interference during queuing. This paper addresses these gaps by optimizing offloading strategies with multiple response time constraints, focusing on the queuing impact of various tasks. We model edge servers as M/M/1 queuing systems and develop a set of mathematical models. Using algorithms based on Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions, we derive optimal offloading strategies to minimize system power consumption. Our approach significantly reduces system power consumption in practical applications, enhancing resource utilization for service providers. Our work introduces a comprehensive and realistic model of task offloading, considering multiple task types, their distinct average response time requirements, and their mutual interference during queuing. This advancement ensures efficient and effective offloading strategies, addressing the complexity of multiple tasks and varying response time constraints. © 2024 IEEE.

The reciprocal mapping between the geometry and properties of a unit cell is crucial for the intelligent and inverse design of advanced materials and structural *** classical homogenization-based numerical methods,this paper presents an efficient and accurate mapping between the geometry and properties of a class of unit cells described by moving morphable components,achieved via a graph convolutional neural *** leads to a structural genome database(SGD) approach for the intelligent design of mechanical *** the SGD approach,metamaterials exhibiting the Hashin-Shtrikman upper bound of bulk modulus,auxetic behavior and the unimodal property have been created,with design efficiency improved by 3-4 orders of ***,transfer learning and a small amount of training data allow the SGD to predict non-local behaviors beyond a unit cell,such as optimized unit cells with critical buckling strength enhanced by nearly 200% and a bandgap metamaterial with a relative bandgap width of 51%.Experimentally validated optimized metamaterials demonstrate auxetic behavior and superior buckling *** proposed SGD approach holds promise for the advanced design of multi-scale and multi-physics systems.

Understanding the effect of cathodic reaction on corrosion-enhanced erosion in sand-entraining electrolyte

In this study,the pure erosion behaviour of pure iron and its erosion-corrosion behaviour under different anodic polarization currents were investigated in various cathodic reactions(oxygen reduction,hydrogen ion reduction,and water reduction)using a cylindrical stirring *** corrosion-enhanced erosion(C-E)rates were determined for each *** results revealed that pure iron displayed similar pure erosion behaviour across all three cathodic *** the cathodic reactions involve hydrogen ion reduction or water reduction,the erosion-corrosion of pure iron manifested as uniform damage,with the reduction in hardness being the main cause of the C-E in this ***,in the case of oxy-gen reduction reaction as the cathodic reaction,the erosion-corrosion presented as pitting damage,with the reduction in hardness resulting from localized concentration of anodic current and the formation of easily worn protruding flaky iron structures at the edges of the pits as the main mechanism of the ***,linear and exponential relationships were found between the C-E rate and the anodic current density for uniform damage and pitting damage,***,the concept of surface equivalent hardness was proposed,along with the establishment of a mathematical model for surface equivalent hardness based on the relationships between the C-E rate and the anodic current *** the surface equivalent hardness enables the evaluation of the erosion rate on material surfaces considering the coupled effect.

Unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)paths in the field directly affect the efficiency and accuracy of payload data *** planning of UAV advancing along river valleys in wild environments is one of the first and most difficult problems faced by unmanned surveys of debris flow *** study proposes a new hybrid bat optimization algorithm,GRE-Bat(Good point set,Reverse learning,Elite Pool-Bat algorithm),for unmanned exploration path planning of debris flow sources in outdoor *** the GRE-Bat algorithm,the good point set strategy is adopted to evenly distribute the population,ensure sufficient coverage of the search space,and improve the stability of the convergence accuracy of the ***,a reverse learning strategy is introduced to increase the diversity of the population and improve the local stagnation problem of the *** addition,an Elite pool strategy is added to balance the replacement and learning behaviors of particles within the population based on elimination and local perturbation *** demonstrate the effectiveness of the GRE-Bat algorithm,we conducted multiple simulation experiments using benchmark test functions and digital terrain *** to commonly used path planning algorithms such as the Bat Algorithm(BA)and the Improved Sparrow Search Algorithm(ISSA),the GRE-Bat algorithm can converge to the optimal value in different types of test functions and obtains a near-optimal solution after an average of 60 *** GRE-Bat algorithm can obtain higher quality flight routes in the designated environment of unmanned investigation in the debris flow gully basin,demonstrating its potential for practical application.
