Consensus control for high-order multi-agent systems

In this study, the lth order (l≥2) consensus problem for multi-agent systems is considered, which generalises the existing second-order consensus algorithm. A linear consensus protocol is proposed for solving such a consensus problem, which includes two parts: a feedback controller and interactions from the neighbours. A sufficient and necessary condition for consensus in high-order systems is obtained. As special cases, criteria for second- and third-order systems are given, in which the exact relationship between feedback gain and system parameters is established. Finally, numerical simulations are reported to illustrate the effectiveness of this protocol. © 2011 The Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Nodes localization plays an important role in applications of wireless sensor networks. In this paper, a localization scheme with a mobile anchor using a hybrid algorithm (ABC-GA) which combines artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm with the advantages of genetic algorithm (GA) is proposed. The localization scheme determines location of unknown node by the mobile anchor;it has high accuracy without any additional requirements for the hardware of unknown node. The core problem of the scheme is finding the shortest path to traversal all unknown nodes. We use ABC-GA hybrid algorithm to solve this problem. Simulation results show that ABC-GA hybrid algorithm has high convergence rate and strong global search capability and the accuracy of localization scheme is satisfactory.

Gasoline blending is a critical process in petroleum refineries. Real-time optimization (RTO) techniques have been popular with the applications for the blending process for optimization purpose. However the dependency of RTO on the measurement of the component impairs its applicability. Therefore how to utilize the blending model and the product measurement to free RTO from the component measurement is the major research topic in this paper. Unscented Kalman Filter, due to its ability to estimate the parameter for nonlinear model, is chosen to estimate component properties based on the product measurement. The RTO strategy is then proposed with the UKF method for the recipe calculation periodically. Furthermore, the proposed RTO is tested with the gasoline blending benchmark problem, while the results are compared with the ideal blending case. The accuracy of the component estimation and the efficiency of the RTO are verified with the results. © 2011 IEEE.

Focusing on ethylene oxide (EO) hydration reactor industrial equipment, the reaction mechanism model is established. Based on the principle of material balance, energy balance and kinetics of the reactions of ethylene oxide with water, partial least squares regression (PLSR) was used in the model to establish a corresponding relationship between the reaction rate constant and the reaction temperature. With kinetic parameters correction by using field data, the results are more tallies with the actual operation. Influences of water/EO molar ratio and inlet temperature on product quality, outlet temperature and energy consumption are analyzed according to the established model. The results showed that the model can preferably reflect the performance of EO hydration reactor and have certain guidance functions to the further advanced control strategies. © 2011 Zhejiang University.

Simulation and Analysis on Multiple Steady States of an Industrial Acetic Acid Dehydration System

In this work, an industrial acetic acid dehydration system via heterogeneous azeotropic distillation is simulated by Aspen Plus software. Residue curves are used to analyze the distillating behavior, and appropriate operating region of the system is determined. Based on steady states simulation, a sensitivity analysis is carried out to detect the output multiple steady states in the system. Different solution branches are observered when the flow rates of the feed stream and the organic reflux stream are selected as manipulated variables. The performance of the column under different steady states is different. A method is oroposed to achieve the desired steady state.

Considering that the performance of a genetic algorithm （GA） is affected by many factors and their rela-tionships are complex and hard to be described,a novel fuzzy-based adaptive genetic algorithm （FAGA） combined a new artificial immune system with fuzzy system theory is proposed due to the fact fuzzy theory can describe high complex *** FAGA,immune theory is used to improve the performance of selection ***,crossover probability and mutation probability are adjusted dynamically by fuzzy inferences,which are developed according to the heuristic fuzzy relationship between algorithm performances and control *** experi-ments show that FAGA can efficiently overcome shortcomings of GA,i.e.,premature and slow,and obtain better results than two typical fuzzy ***,FAGA was used for the parameters estimation of reaction kinetics model and the satisfactory result was obtained.

In this paper, the vigilance levels during day time short nap sleep were estimated on the basis of Markov Process Amplitude (MPA) EEG model. The ultimate purpose was to adopt the MPA model to discriminate three levels of vigilance through a simple neural network. A set of parameters were firstly calculated based on MPA EEG model. Secondly, correlation analysis was adopted to extract effective parameters to ensure a small amount of inputs of the artificial neural network. The outputs of artificial neural network were the classified three levels: wakeful, drowsy and sleep. The obtained estimation result showed that the accuracy of wakeful was about 90.0%, drowsy 80.0%, and sleep 93.3%. © 2011 IEEE.

Automatic EEG spike detection provide valuable information for diagnosis of epilepsy. In the past 30 years, a number of algorithms were proposed. However, the basic idea of most algorithms is to identify spike activities. We have developed an algorithm based on identify non-spike activities for off-line analysis. In this paper, we improved the algorithm for online application using real-time template. Template method is a typical spike detection method. It was not widely employed because of the difficulty of making template. Our results suggested that multi-channel template is meaningful and effective for real-time detection. Spike activities can be detected with a delay of about 2 s. We also designed an simple user-friendly monitor interface for monitor and review spike events in real-time. © 2011 IEEE.

The day time nap sleep has the significant prophylactic function to our health and working efficiency. In this study, the prediction of sleep level for day time short nap was investigated. The ultimate purpose was to develop the automatic analysis technique for nap sleep interpretation. Firstly, the conditional probabilities of sleep stage awake, stage 1 and stage 2 were calculated for the consecutive data segments based on a set of parameters. Secondly, the sleep level of next data segment was predicted according to the obtained conditional probabilities. The prediction of sleep level reflected the future sleep tendency and was helpful for automatic nap sleep interpretation. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper presented a simple method of detecting the peak of R wave in Electrocardiogram (ECG) signal and computing the Heart Rate Variability (HRV). Features were extracted from the obtained HRV to analyze the vigilance level during day time short nap sleep. Firstly, the second derivative of ECG signal was calculated and clustered in order to detect the peak of R wave. Secondly, HRV was calculated from the subtraction of two adjoining R waves. Finally, several features were extracted based on HRV in time domain and frequency domain. The variation of vigilance level during the day time short nap was analyzed based on the extracted features. The result showed that the accuracy of peak detection of R wave in ECG signal was about 99.5%. The extracted features can reflect the changing of vigilance level and be useful for sleep stage analysis. © 2011 IEEE.
