Simulation and optimization of acetylene converter with decreasing catalyst activity

Since the activity and selectivity of acetylene hydrogenation catalyst change with time, the operating parameters need to be changed to maximize the profit. Therefore, we collected the industrial process data and estimated the parameters of kinetic model and deactivation model by genetic algorithm. We compared the selectivity and activity performance of two commonly used catalysts. For two reactors in series filled with different catalysts, we proposed the methods of combinatorial optimization and ratio assignment to optimal ethylene production rate. When these optimization strategies were implemented in the actual plant, ethylene production rate and the total selectivity increased significantly. © All Rights Reserved.

Kinetics of COx formation in the homogeneous metal/bromide-catalyzed aerobic oxidation of p-xylene

The homogeneous metal/bromide-catalyzed aerobic oxidation of p-xylene with different catalyst concentrations was carried out, and the formation kinetics of COx including CO2 and CO was measured. The simplified elementary steps for the formation of COx were summarized, on the basis of which the kinetic model of COx formation was established. The model calculations were in good agreement with the experimental data for the CO2 formation and also successfully captured the first peak of the CO formation rate as a function of time. The obtained rate constants have narrow confidence intervals, among which only k1 and k2 are the adjustable parameters for different catalyst conditions. The decarboxylation of the carboxyl group in aromatic acid, the oxidation of the aryl radical, and the destruction of acetic acid are the major sources of CO2. The formation of CO mainly results from the destruction of acetic acid and the oxidation of the aryl radical. Copyright © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

This paper is concerned with the problem of quantized H∞ control for networked control systems (NCSs) with multiple packet dropouts. A new model is given to describe the systems with the input and output quantization and multiple packet dropouts. Both the multiple measurement and control packet dropouts are described by two binary switching sequences that obey certain conditional probability distribution. An observer-based controller is designed to ensure the exponentially mean-square stable of the closed-loop system and to guarantee an optimal H∞ disturbance attenuation level. Finally, a simulation example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Shape design of the reinforcement for bending load-carrying capacity of under-matched butt joint under four-point bending load

To improve the bending load-carrying capacity （ BLCC） of under-matched butt joint under four-point bending load in the elastic stage, the shape design of the reinforcement is studied based on the theoretics of mechanics of materials. The concept, criterion, realization condition and design proposal of equal bending load-carrying capacity （EBLCC） are put forward. The theoretical analysis results have been verified by the finite element method. The simulation results are coincident basically with the ones of theoretical analysis. The research results show that the shape design of the reinforcement of EBLCC can improve BLCC of under-matched butt joint and the unilateral-side type reinforcement can replace double-side symmetry

This paper is concerned with leader-follower synchronization of complex dynamical networks with sampled-data control. By sampling the signal from the leader at some discrete time instants and using a zero-order hold function, synchronization is achieved between the network and a desired orbit, known as the leader. By applying Lyapunov functional approach and the property of the network topology matrix, a delay-dependent criterion is derived. It is shown that synchronization of N coupled dynamical systems with a leader can be recast into the stability of N decoupled systems, in which eigenvalues of the network topology matrix are involved. Finally, a chaotic neural network is used to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2012 Chinese Assoc of Automati.

A brain-computer interface (BCI) based on the combination of oddball paradigm and face perception has been introduced. Such BCI mainly exploits three event-related potential (ERP) components, namely vertex positive potential (VPP), N170 and P300 instead of only P300. With different temporal and spatial distributions of the three ERP components, a regularized common spatial pattern (CSP) with Fisher's criterion (FC), named FCCSP, is proposed to extract the most discriminative features for single trial classification of ERP components. With linear discriminant analysis (LDA) classifier, the proposed FCCSP spatial filtering method yields an average classification accuracy of 95.4% on seven healthy subjects for single-trial ERP components, which outperforms no spatial filtering, the CSP and the FC.

In order to segment ban traffic signs quickly and accurately, this paper first refers to its characteristic of red circle and white background to start color segmentation, then presents a segmentation method based two-step randomized Hough transform (RHT) segmentation method. The first step, extracting the approximate area in the ban traffic signs, which is using the means of Hough transform detect approximate circle method, then screening edge chain code by the approximate range of the center and radius of traffic signs. The second step, comprehensive the ideas, such as the tangent of edge chain, the ellipse polar and polar line, the distance of the point on the ellipse to the two elliptical focal point is equal to long-axis length, Using these ideas to improve the randomized Hough transform and segment the ellipse precise area where traffic signs at the original image. This method uses the idea of thin after rough, avoiding a large number of invalid samples. Experiments show the effectiveness of the new method. © 2012 Chinese Assoc of Automati.

This paper addresses the H ∞ filtering problem for networked control systems with quantization and multiple packet dropouts. The effects of measurement channel and control channel quantization as well as packet dropouts are considered simultaneously due to limited communication capacity and unreliable communication links. Stochastic variables satisfying the Bernoulli random binary distribution are utilized to model the multiple packet dropouts. Sufficient conditions are proposed such that the filtering error system is exponentially mean-square stable while the H ∞ disturbance rejection attenuation constraint is satisfied. Then, the explicit expression of the desired filter gains is described in terms of the solution to linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, a numerical example is employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed filter design approach.

In this paper, a robust neural control problem for switched systems with unmodeled dynamics and external disturbances is addressed. RBF neural networks and multiple Lyapunov functions are employed to design robust neural controller and switching signal. It's proved that the resulting closed-loop system is asymptotically Lyapunov stable and good satisfactory tracking control performance is obtained. Finally, simulation results verify our theoretical findings and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control method. © 2012 Chinese Assoc of Automati.
