Focusing on ethylene oxide (EO) hydration reactor industrial equipment, the reaction mechanism model is established. Based on the principle of material balance, energy balance and kinetics of the reactions of ethylene oxide with water, partial least squares regression (PLSR) was used in the model to establish a corresponding relationship between the reaction rate constant and the reaction temperature. With kinetic parameters correction by using field data, the results are more tallies with the actual operation. Influences of water/EO molar ratio and inlet temperature on product quality, outlet temperature and energy consumption are analyzed according to the established model. The results showed that the model can preferably reflect the performance of EO hydration reactor and have certain guidance functions to the further advanced control strategies. © 2011 Zhejiang University.

Simulation and Analysis on Multiple Steady States of an Industrial Acetic Acid Dehydration System

In this work, an industrial acetic acid dehydration system via heterogeneous azeotropic distillation is simulated by Aspen Plus software. Residue curves are used to analyze the distillating behavior, and appropriate operating region of the system is determined. Based on steady states simulation, a sensitivity analysis is carried out to detect the output multiple steady states in the system. Different solution branches are observered when the flow rates of the feed stream and the organic reflux stream are selected as manipulated variables. The performance of the column under different steady states is different. A method is oroposed to achieve the desired steady state.

Considering that the performance of a genetic algorithm （GA） is affected by many factors and their rela-tionships are complex and hard to be described,a novel fuzzy-based adaptive genetic algorithm （FAGA） combined a new artificial immune system with fuzzy system theory is proposed due to the fact fuzzy theory can describe high complex *** FAGA,immune theory is used to improve the performance of selection ***,crossover probability and mutation probability are adjusted dynamically by fuzzy inferences,which are developed according to the heuristic fuzzy relationship between algorithm performances and control *** experi-ments show that FAGA can efficiently overcome shortcomings of GA,i.e.,premature and slow,and obtain better results than two typical fuzzy ***,FAGA was used for the parameters estimation of reaction kinetics model and the satisfactory result was obtained.

Comparison between the preparation,structure and mechanical properties of long fiber reinforced thermoplastics and short fiber reinforced thermoplastic

This article summarizes the comparison between the preparation, structure and mechanical properties of long fiber reinforced thermoplastics （LFT） and short fiber reinforced thermoplastics （SFT）. Both of the experiment and theory results showed that the mechanical properties of long glass fiber reinforced thermoplastics pellets （LGFRT） have been enhanced better than that of short glass fiber reinforced thermoplastics pellets （SGFRT） manufactured by molding procession. After regulation of the relative humidity by 50 % , the mechanical properties of 30 % （ weight percent） short glass fiber content in SFT （ SFT-PA6-SGF30 ） are similar to that of 40 % long glass fiber content in LFT. Howev- er, the density of the latter is about 17 % lower than that of the former. Thus, the corresponding weight of products is reduced by 13 % ;output rate is increased by 21% , and the cost is therefore significantly lowered. And it has the fol- lowing advantages： impact strength is increased by 87 % ; the proportion is reduced by 20 % ; molding cycle is short- ened by 10 % ;materials cost is saved by 20 % -30 % and the final total cost is saved by 30 % -40 %. So LFT （LFT-PP-LGF40） can replace SFT （SFT-PA6-SGF30） with the similar basic mechanical properties under normal tem- perature or 160 ℃ lower.

In this paper, the vigilance levels during day time short nap sleep were estimated on the basis of Markov Process Amplitude (MPA) EEG model. The ultimate purpose was to adopt the MPA model to discriminate three levels of vigilance through a simple neural network. A set of parameters were firstly calculated based on MPA EEG model. Secondly, correlation analysis was adopted to extract effective parameters to ensure a small amount of inputs of the artificial neural network. The outputs of artificial neural network were the classified three levels: wakeful, drowsy and sleep. The obtained estimation result showed that the accuracy of wakeful was about 90.0%, drowsy 80.0%, and sleep 93.3%. © 2011 IEEE.

For the deficiencies of the basic bee colony algorithm based on the mechanism of nectar (ABC), such as the population diversity scarcity in the early iterations and easily sticking into the local optimum, a strategy which integrates an improved differential evolution (DE) method into bee colony algorithm (DE-ABC) is proposed. The primary idea of DE-ABC is to introduce DE into the mutation of employed bee instead of random search strategy, and combination of incremental strategy of the crossover probability factor and the scaling factor, strategy of stagnation judgment and treatment. Four benchmark functions are used to make a comparison, and results show that DE-ABC converges with a faster accelerated rate and a higher accuracy optimization. Then DE-ABC is applied to the optimization of p-xylene oxidation process. With the purpose of reducing the exhaust CO, CO2 of the reactor and the first crystallizer, an excellent solution of the operating variables is obtained under the process operating parameters constraints, which gives a guide to the plant operation.

This paper presented a simple method of detecting the peak of R wave in Electrocardiogram (ECG) signal and computing the Heart Rate Variability (HRV). Features were extracted from the obtained HRV to analyze the vigilance level during day time short nap sleep. Firstly, the second derivative of ECG signal was calculated and clustered in order to detect the peak of R wave. Secondly, HRV was calculated from the subtraction of two adjoining R waves. Finally, several features were extracted based on HRV in time domain and frequency domain. The variation of vigilance level during the day time short nap was analyzed based on the extracted features. The result showed that the accuracy of peak detection of R wave in ECG signal was about 99.5%. The extracted features can reflect the changing of vigilance level and be useful for sleep stage analysis. © 2011 IEEE.

The day time nap sleep has the significant prophylactic function to our health and working efficiency. In this study, the prediction of sleep level for day time short nap was investigated. The ultimate purpose was to develop the automatic analysis technique for nap sleep interpretation. Firstly, the conditional probabilities of sleep stage awake, stage 1 and stage 2 were calculated for the consecutive data segments based on a set of parameters. Secondly, the sleep level of next data segment was predicted according to the obtained conditional probabilities. The prediction of sleep level reflected the future sleep tendency and was helpful for automatic nap sleep interpretation. © 2011 IEEE.

Automatic EEG spike detection provide valuable information for diagnosis of epilepsy. In the past 30 years, a number of algorithms were proposed. However, the basic idea of most algorithms is to identify spike activities. We have developed an algorithm based on identify non-spike activities for off-line analysis. In this paper, we improved the algorithm for online application using real-time template. Template method is a typical spike detection method. It was not widely employed because of the difficulty of making template. Our results suggested that multi-channel template is meaningful and effective for real-time detection. Spike activities can be detected with a delay of about 2 s. We also designed an simple user-friendly monitor interface for monitor and review spike events in real-time. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper, explicit model predictive control (MPC) schemes for discrete-time linear-invariant multi-rate systems with constraints on inputs and states are studied. The optimization problem of multi-rate predictive control systems can be formulated by solving a multiparametric linear program (mp-LP), and the explicit state feedback control laws are developed. Further, based on the closed-loop multi-rate piecewise affine (PWA) structure, stability analysis is presented by linear matrix inequality (LMI). The simulation results show the effectiveness of the explicit MPC for multi-rate system. © 2011 Shanghai Jiaotong Univ.
