Estimation of Distribution Algorithm is a new population based evolutionary optimization method and it generates new population from probability distribution model. Like most evolutionary algorithms, it is easy to trap into local optimums. In order to avoid this shortcoming, Gaussian and Cauchy probability density function are mixed as probability distribution model. For continuous problems, a new estimation of distribution algorithm sampling under the mixed model is presented. New individuals are generated not only from Gaussian distribution but sometimes from Cauchy distribution in order to keep diversity. The selection strategy of Gaussian and Cauchy distribution are also discussed. The new algorithm is tested on five benchmark functions and results are compared with basic and estimation of distribution algorithm with Cauchy mutation. © 2010 IEEE.

A novel immune algorithm suitable for dynamic environments (GIDE) is proposed based on a biological immune mechanism. GIDE models the dynamic process of artificial immune response with gradient-based diversity operators. Unlike traditional artificial immune algorithms, which require that randomly generated cells be added to the current population to explore its fitness landscape, GIDE uses a gradient-based diversity operator to speed up optimization in dynamic environments. Other immune algorithms are compared to GIDE by using Moving Peaks Benchmarks. Preliminary experiments showed that GIDE can maintain high population diversity during the search process, while simultaneously speeding up optimization. Thus, GIDE is useful for optimization of dynamic environments. © 2010 IEEE.

Aiming at difficulty modeling of large amounts of industrial process data, a novel soft sensor model based on artificial immune agent-based multiple model Radial Basis Function (RBF) networks is proposed in this paper. The method is to predict the qualities of manufactured products of Crude Oil Tower. In the IMMST-Team system, some biological immune based operation and learning rules which can efficiently cluster the large amounts of data samples and adapt RBF submodels structure and parameter are established. Individuals in the immune system work cooperatively to accomplish the goal of model training. Meenwhile, immune memory and pattern recognition provide high efficiency of predicting. The prediction of dry point of naphtha produced in a practical industrial process is carried out as a case study. The results obtained indicate that the proposed method provides quality prediction with high efficiency and accuracy, which is capable of learning the relationships between process variables measured during the production cycle. ©2010 IEEE.

FS-SVDD based on LTSA and its application to chemical process monitoring

Dozens of advantages have been reported on using support vector data description (SVDD) in the fields of non-Gaussian process monitoring and fault diagnosis. However, during the SVDD model construction offline, usually the whole training data set is used. Due to the tremendous size of the data set, the computation burden for modeling is quite heavy, which leads to the difficulty in updating model online. Therefore, this paper proposes a fast SVDD algorithm on the basis of the feature samples. In this new algorithm, the feature samples are used in stead of the whole training data set for modeling in order to significantly reduce the computation complexity. Concurrently, PCA is replaced by the local tangent space alignment (LTSA) to extract the underlying manifold structure of the process data set, since the traditional dimension reduction methods, such as PCA, have poor capability to handle nonlinearity. Next SVDD is applied on the manifold. At last, corresponding statistical indices are used for fault detection purpose. The proposed method has been tested on the Tennessee Eastman (TE) process, while the simulation results show the efficiency of it. © All Rights Reserved.

Aiming at the disadvantages of the standard Particle Swarm optimization (PSO), a new particle swarm optimization algorithm based on dual mutation(DDPSO) is proposed. By comparing and analyzing the results of several Benchmark functions, the excellent performance of PSO is proved. The improved PSO is applied to optimize the structure and parameters in artificial neural network(ANN). The availability of algorithm optimizing neural network is proved by applying ANN in soft sensor modeling of propylene concentration measurement. © 2010 IEEE.

Coverage optimization is a critical issue in 802.11 Wireless LANs planning problems. In this paper an immune network algorithm named opt-aiNet is studied in order to automatize the planning process by optimizing the BS's (Base Station) sites. Compared the results of opt-aiNet and genetic algorithms(GA) which have been used in radio coverage optimization before, we found that opt-aiNet could find the optimal solution all times while GA falling into local optimum solution sometimes, and opt-aiNet converged more quickly than GA in most cases. Experimental results show that optaiNet is an effective way to optimize the 802.11 Wireless LANs planning problems. © 2010 IEEE.

To solve the premature convergence problem of particle swarm optimization(PSO) in dealing with complex high dimensional function optimization, a novel hybrid particle swarm optimization algorithm merging crossover mutation and chaos(CMCPSO) was proposed. The main approaches included using chaos strategy to initiate positions and velocities of all particles in the design space, introducing crossover operation in each iteration to increase the diversity of particles, breaching the restrictions of local optimization points with a new chaotic disturbance mechanism and mutation operation during the later computation period. Four standard test functions were selected to have a simulation study on the proposed algorithm. The results showed that CMCPSO had a fast convergence rate and effective global optimization ability. © All Rights Reserved.
