An online monitoring method, which aims to deal with the high order non-Gaussian characteristics in chemical process, is proposed in this paper. In the framework of the proposed method, kernel based independent component analysis is utilized to identify the operation status of the chemical process and statistics pattern analysis is employed to combine with independent component analysis to extract high order information from the process so as to improve the monitoring performance. The modified statistics pattern analysis introduces the Mahalanobis distance into statistics pattern to analyze the inner structure relationship between the samples. Then, the validity and effectiveness of our proposed method is illustrated by applying to a representative non-Gaussian process, Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR). The results show that the proposed method has its advantages when compared to other conventional Eigen-decomposition monitoring algorithms.

Set stabilization for Boolean networks which is a kind of genetic regulatory networks is considered in this paper. An algorithm is provided to achieve the set stability for Boolean networks by changing the columns of the transition matrices of Boolean networks. Then, pinning nodes can be selected. Furthermore, pinning control design algorithm is given. Finally, the model for infection of the bacterium is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed results.

Transition metal oxides with the Aurivillius structure have been studied as electrode materials in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) owing to their high capacity and proper redox voltage. With the opened Aurivillius structure, the antimony tungstate (Sb 2 WO 6 , SWO) constituted of {Sb 2 O 2 } 2n+ and {WO 4 } 2n− is rarely used as negative electrode material for lithium-ion batteries. Herein, the SWO nanosheets/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) hybrid clusters were synthesized, and their electrochemical performances, kinetics and lithium storage mechanism were systematically studied as negative electrode materials for LIBs. Results show that the graphene oxide (GO) not only restricts the growth of layered-structure SWO, but also induces SWO growth along (002) lattice plane and changes SWO particles to SWO nanosheets. The strong interaction between SWO nanosheets and rGO greatly improve conductivity and structure stability of SWO nanosheets/rGO hybrid clusters, which also can efficiently alleviate agglomeration and volume change of SWO nanosheets during cycling. Meanwhile, the dominating pseudocapacitive contribution (78.2% at 0.8 mV s −1 ) effectively enhanced the electrochemical performance. As an anode material for LIBs, the SWO nanosheets/rGO hybrids deliver a high specific capacity of 1141 mAh g −1 at a current density of 0.2 A g −1 , and their specific discharge capacity is 595 mAh g −1 after 130 cycles at 0.2 A g −1 . This work demonstrates that the SWO nanosheets/rGO hybrid clusters are a promising negative electrode material for high-energy-density LIBs.

It is well known that feedback failure increases operating errors in control systems. The objective here is to develop controllers that reduce such operating errors in minimal time, once feedback has been restored. It is shown that there are robust optimal feedback controllers that attain this objective, and that the performance of these controllers can be approximated as closely as desired by bang-bang controllers that are easy to derive and implement. © 2016

Highly ordered TiO_2 nanotube arrays(NTAs) on Si substrate possess broad applications due to its high surfaceto-volume ratio and novel functionalities, however, there are still some challenges on facile synthesis. Here, we report a simple and cost-effective high-field(90–180V) anodization method to grow highly ordered TiO_2 NTAs on Si substrate,and investigate the effect of anodization time, voltage, and fluoride content on the formation of TiO_2 NTAs. The current density–time curves, recorded during anodization processes, can be used to determine the optimum anodization time. It is found that the growth rate of TiO_2 NTAs is improved significantly under high field, which is nearly 8 times faster than that under low fields(40–60 V). The length and growth rate of the nanotubes are further increased with the increase of fluoride content in the electrolyte.

Harmony search algorithm with differential evolution based control parameter co-evolution and its application in chemical process dynamic optimization

A modified harmony search algorithm with co-evolutional control parameters(DEHS), applied through differential evolution optimization, is proposed. In DEHS, two control parameters, i.e., harmony memory considering rate and pitch adjusting rate, are encoded as a symbiotic individual of an original individual(i.e., harmony vector). Harmony search operators are applied to evolving the original population. DE is applied to co-evolving the symbiotic population based on feedback information from the original population. Thus, with the evolution of the original population in DEHS, the symbiotic population is dynamically and self-adaptively adjusted, and real-time optimum control parameters are obtained. The proposed DEHS algorithm has been applied to various benchmark functions and two typical dynamic optimization problems. The experimental results show that the performance of the proposed algorithm is better than that of other HS variants. Satisfactory results are obtained in the application.

Fault diagnosis and process monitoring using a statistical pattern framework based on a self-organizing map

A multivariate method for fault diagnosis and process monitoring is proposed. This technique is based on a statistical pattern(SP) framework integrated with a self-organizing map(SOM). An SP-based SOM is used as a classifier to distinguish various states on the output map, which can visually monitor abnormal states. A case study of the Tennessee Eastman(TE) process is presented to demonstrate the fault diagnosis and process monitoring performance of the proposed method. Results show that the SP-based SOM method is a visual tool for real-time monitoring and fault diagnosis that can be used in complex chemical *** with other SOM-based methods, the proposed method can more efficiently monitor and diagnose faults.

Brain-computer interface (BCI) can help patients who lost control over most muscles but are still conscious to communicate or interact with the environment. In the offline experiment, all the subjects have to do is counting the target stimulus when they were using the visual-evoked event-related potential (ERP) based BCIs. The recorded electroencephalogram (EEG) data was used to train the classification mode. However, subjects may get distracted in counting the target stimulus when the non-target stimulus affected the subjects or subjects lost their attentions which may negatively affect the task performance. In this study, some green flashing points was added into the stimuli. The subjects have to focus on the target stimulus and count the number of the green points in target stimulus at the same time. In this way, it will make subjects concentrate more on the target to count the green points compared to the pattern without green points. The result showed that the performance of the BCI system could be improved using the method presented in this paper.

—In the fashion industry, order scheduling focuses on the assignment of production orders to appropriate production lines. In reality, before a new order can be put into production, a series of activities known as pre-production events need to be completed. In addition, in real production process, owing to various uncertainties, the daily production quantity of each order is not always as expected. In this research, by considering the pre-production events and the uncertainties in the daily production quantity, robust order scheduling problems in the fashion industry are investigated with the aid of a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA) called nondominated sorting adaptive differential evolution (NSJADE). The experimental results illustrate that it is of paramount importance to consider pre-production events in order scheduling problems in the fashion industry. We also unveil that the existence of the uncertainties in the daily production quantity heavily affects the order scheduling. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.
