In this paper, an observer-based model predictive control (MPC) strategy is presented for distributed parameter systems (DPSs). First, principal component analysis (PCA) is used for dimension reduction by transforming the high-dimensional spatio-temporal data into a low-dimensional time domain. Then an observer is builded to estimate the low-dimensional temporal output using the real-time measurable spatiotemporal output. Finally, the MPC strategy is proposed based on the low-dimensional estimation models. Simulations demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed methodologies.

Fine-Grained Visual Categorization (FGVC) is challenging due to the superior similarity among categories and the large within-category variance. Existing work tackles this problem by designing self-localization modules in an end-to-end DCNN to learn semantic part features. However the model efficiency of this strategy decreases significantly with the increasing of the number of categories, because more parts are needed to offset the impact of the increasing of categories. In this paper, we propose a label-smooth learning method that improves models applicability to large categories by maximizing its prediction diversity. Based on the similarity among fine-grained categories, a KL divergence between uniform and prediction distributions is established to reduce model’s confidence on the ground-truth category, while raising its confidence on similar categories. By minimizing it, information from similar categories are exploited for model learning, thus diminishing the effects caused by the increasing of categories. Experiments on five benchmark datasets of mid-scale (CUB-200-2011, Stanford Dogs, Stanford Cars, and FGVC-Aircraft) and large-scale (NABirds) categories show a clear advantage of the proposed label-smooth learning and demonstrate its comparable or state-of-the-art performance. This paper is concerned with the sliding mode control (SMC) problem for a class of uncertain switched systems subject to partly known sojourn probabilities. The sojourn probability is the probability of a switched system staying in each subsystem, which may be available or unavailable. A key issue is how to design a sliding mode controller to guarantee the stability performance of the reconstructed switched systems subject to the partly known sojourn probabilities. To this end, by using a set of stochastic variables, the switched system model is reconstructed with partly known sojourn probabilities. And then, the sliding mode control law is constructed to ensure the reachability of the designed common sliding surface. Furthermore, the sufficient condition is derived to ensure the mean-square stability of the closed-loop system under the partly unknown sojourn probabilities. Finally, a numerical example is provided to illustrate the proposed method.

This paper studies the state feedback stabilization of LTI plants over wireless block-fading channels. The packet-loss rate of each channel depends on power level and packet length used for transmission as well as channel power gain. Different from the case of fixed packet-loss rate, the packet-loss rate considered in this paper is random and time-varying as the channel power gain is so for wireless communication. When power level and packet length are assumed to be time-invariant for every transmission at each channel, necessary and sufficient conditions for mean square stabilizability via state feedback are given in terms of the unstable poles of the plant. The performance defined as the asymptotic mean square norm of the system state is also discussed for the scalar case.

Trajectory planning in 3D dynamic environment with non-cooperative agents via fast marching and Bézier curve

In this paper, we propose a framework for trajectory planning in a 3D dynamic environment where other non-cooperative agents may obstruct the active quadrotor. A trajectory predictor is designed for the non-cooperative agent via least squares. In addition, based on Euclidean signed distance field (ESDF), a velocity map configuration is developed for both dynamic and static obstacles, and then utilized in fast marching method to find a feasible discrete path. The smooth and dynamic feasible trajectory generation problem is formulated as a quadratic programming (QP) problem, where a safe flight corridor generator is developed for safe constraints in a dynamic environment. Piecewise Bézier curves are used to represent the generated trajectory. With the help of flight corridor, along with the convex hull property of Bézier curve, the quadratic programming problem turns into a convex optimization problem. Simulation results show that the proposed approach is validated for collision avoidance in a dynamic environment. © 2019, © 2019 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Predicting the best shutdown time of a steam ethylene cracking furnace in industrial practice remains a challenge due to the complex coking process. As well known, the shutdown time of a furnace is mainly determined by coking condition of the transfer line exchangers （TLE） when naphtha or other heavy hydrocarbon feedstocks are cracked. In practice, it is difficult to measure the coke thickness in TLE through experimental method in the complex industrial situation. However, the outlet temperature of TLE （TLEOT） can indirectly characterize the coking situation in TLE since the coke accumulation in TLE has great influence on TLEOT. Thus, the TLEOT could be a critical factor in deciding when to shut down the furnace to decoke. To predict the TLEOT, a paramewic model was proposed in this work, based on theoretical analysis, mathematic reduction, and parameters estimation. The feasibility of the proposed model was further checked through industrial data and good agreements between model prediction and industrial data with maximum deviation 2% were observed.

In this paper, we study two-player evolutionary prisoner's dilemma on regular graphs and identify the stochastically stable equilibria for infinite populations. We consider four different update rules: Birth-death(BD), death-birth(DB), imitation(IM) and pairwise comparison(PC). With the same values of cost and benefit of cooperation, we show that there is a unique stochastically stable equilibrium for evolutionary prisoner's dilemma on regular graphs. If the benefit-to-cost ratio is larger than k + 2 (k is the degree of a regular graph), the networked game has a higher fraction of cooperators than that for a well-mixed population. Under certain conditions, the lower graph connectivity can lead to the emergence of more cooperators. Besides theoretical analysis, we demonstrate our results through numerical computations and simulations as well. © 2018 IEEE.

In recent years, immune genetic algorithm (IGA) is gaining popularity for finding the optimal solution of non-linear optimization problems encountered in many engineering applications. In IGA, the mutation factor values are either fixed or change together according to a function of the individual’s current generation number during all the search process. However, IGA with deterministic mutation factor suffers from the problem of premature convergence. A modified self-adaptive immune genetic algorithm (MSIGA) with two memory bases, in which immune concepts are applied to determine the mutation parameters, is proposed to strengthen the searching ability of the algorithm and maintain population diversity. Performance comparisons with other well-known population-based iterative algorithms show that the proposed method can quickly converge to the global optimum and overcome premature problem. Then, this algorithm is applied to optimize a feed forward neural network to measure the content of products in the combust ion side reaction of p-xylene oxidation, and satisfactory results are obtained.

Vision-based trajectory tracking control of quadrotors using super twisting sliding mode control

A trajectory-tracking problem for a vision-based quadrotor control system is investigated in this paper. A super twisting sliding mode (STSM) controller is proposed for finite-time trajectory tracking control. With the help of the homogeneous technique, the closed-loop system is proved to be finite-time stable. In addition, due to the introduction of super twisting mechanism, the controller can restrain chattering effect of sliding mode control. On the other hand, a pose estimation through data fusion is proposed to localise the quadrotor. A Kalman filter (KF) is utilised to fuse the estimated pose from semi-direct monocular visual odometry (SVO) with data from inertial measurement unit (IMU). A number of simulations are carried out on MATLAB and physical engine simulator Gazebo. The results show that the proposed system controller has better performances in terms of robustness and anti-disturbance than the proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controller and the first order sliding mode controller. © 2020 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.
