Recursive partial least squares (RPLS) regression is effectively used in process monitoring and modeling to deal with the stronger collinearity of the process variables and slow time-varying property of industrial processes. Aim at the RPLS cannot solve the modeling speed and the accuracy problems effectively, a modified sample-wise RPLS algorithm is proposed in this paper. It updates the PLS model according to the process status. We use the approximate linear dependence (ALD) condition to check each new sample. The model is reconstructed recursively such that the new samples satisfy the ALD condition. Experimental study on modeling parameters of ball mill load shows that the proposed modified RPLS algorithm is computationally faster, and the modeling accuracy is higher than conventional RPLS for the time-varying process. © 2011 Chinese Assoc of Automati.

In order to research the group mobility management technology, the research progress of group mobility management in ubiquitous network is summarized. Based on the new features of the ubiquitous network, the structures, performances and application fields of group mobility model are discussed, and some key technologies such as context awareness, service decision-making, cooperative transmission and radio resource management are also introduced. Aiming at the challenges in this filed, some solutions and valuable research directions are proposed.

—In the fashion industry, order scheduling focuses on the assignment of production orders to appropriate production lines. In reality, before a new order can be put into production, a series of activities known as pre-production events need to be completed. In addition, in real production process, owing to various uncertainties, the daily production quantity of each order is not always as expected. In this research, by considering the pre-production events and the uncertainties in the daily production quantity, robust order scheduling problems in the fashion industry are investigated with the aid of a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA) called nondominated sorting adaptive differential evolution (NSJADE). The experimental results illustrate that it is of paramount importance to consider pre-production events in order scheduling problems in the fashion industry. We also unveil that the existence of the uncertainties in the daily production quantity heavily affects the order scheduling. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Differential evolution (DE) is a simple but powerful evolutionary algorithm, which has been widely and successfully used in many areas. In this paper, an impulsive control method is introduced to the DE framework, and the impulsive DE (IpDE) is proposed for improving the performance of DE. The impulsive control operation instantly moves the individuals which do not update for continuous pre-defined generations to a desired state based on the individuals with better fitness values in the current population. This way, IpDE controls individuals' positions in the space domain according to the stagnation status of the population. In order to validate the effectiveness of IpDE, the presented framework is applied to the original DE algorithms, as well as several state-of-the-art DE variants. Experimental results exhibit that IpDE is a simple but effective framework to improve the performance of the studied DE algorithms.

This paper focuses on multi-agent systems with uncertain disturbances, in which only the bounding functions on the disturbances and the bounds on the initial state of each agent are known. By designing a neighborhood interval observer for this kind of multi-agent system, the estimation of the sum of the relative state of each agent associated with itself and its neighbors is frstly realized. Then, on the basis of these estimated information, local control algorithm is designed to drive the system to achieve bounded consensus.

Iterative learning control (ILC) is excellently applied to output tracking for systems that perform repetitive tasks. Classical norm optimal ILC (NOILC) approach yields optimal control inputs by minimizing a quadratic cost function. However, this approach requires the introduction of supervectors, i.e., lifting technique, for system description, which raises a high computational load problem. The contribution of this paper is to propose a non-lifted NOILC (N-NOILC) approach by redesigning a cost function that does not involve the lifting technique, achieving the goal of efficient computation. Therefore, the proposed approach is particularly suitable for large tracking tasks with long trial duration and high sampling frequency. Moreover, considering the model uncertainty in practice, robust convergence is analyzed. Numerical simulations are shown to demonstrate the properties and advantages of the proposed approach.

Techno-Economic Assessment of Modified Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis process for Direct Co2 Conversion into Jet Fuel

Direct use of CO2 through modified Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) process presents a viable approach for the production of carbon-neutral jet fuel. However, achieving high performance for the CO2-FTS process remains a significant challenge. Current technology can only achieve low CO2 conversion and low jet fuel yield using tailored catalysts, which hinders the commercial deployment of direct CO2-FTS process. This paper presents a techno-economic assessment (TEA) of jet fuel production via CO2-FTS process at commercial-scale. Two ex-situ water removal configurations: (a) multi-stage CO2-FTS process and (b) CO2-FTS with tail gas recycle process were conducted to assess their potential for performance improvement. process performance was evaluated using a model developed in Aspen Plus® linking with Aspen Custom Modeller®, while economic evaluation was carried out in Aspen process Economic Analyzer®. The CO2-FTS model was based on first principles and modified Anderson-Schulz-Flory (ASF) distribution. Results indicated that both ex-situ water removal configurations can significantly improve the process performance. CO2-FTS process with 90% tail gas recycle has the best performance for both technical and economic analysis. The process achieved 85.8% CO2 conversion and 35.6% jet fuel yield with the lowest energy demand of 5.30 MWh per tonne of produced jet fuel. Moreover, it boasts the lowest minimum selling price (MSP) of jet fuel at $2.6/kg despite incurring the second-highest capital expenditure cost of M$ 451.3. A comparison of the two ex-situ water removal configurations at 61.9% and 76.5% CO2 conversion, suggests that both processes exhibit comparable technical performances, yet the recycling of tail gas holds the potential to reduce economic costs. Consequently, this study will inspire researchers on process improvement and cost reduction of the commercial-scale CO2-FST jet fuel production. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The aromatics complex is an energy-intensive process. Heat exchanger network (HEN) is one of the most effective ways for energy saving. It has been applied in existing aromatics complex. However, a large amount of low grade heat is still wasted. Therefore, there is a motivation to use organic Rankine cycle (ORC) to recover low grade heat so that the energy efficiency of the whole plant can be further improved. This study aims to propose a new low grade heat recovery energy system for the aromatics complex by integrating the ORC with HEN. An extended mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) model is first developed for the proposed system. The energy, exergy, and economic (3E) analysis are performed to evaluate the whole system performance and verify the technical and economic feasibility. The results show that the optimised proposed energy system performs with 9.05 % of ORC energy efficiency, 380.95 MW of recovered heat from the process streams, 82.13 % of the overall exergy efficiency, and -155.30 k$/year of the total annual cost. These results reveal the significant potential in energy savings and provide guidance to the aromatics complex needing to be retrofitted or to a new plant. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper considers the design of iterative learning control laws for discrete-time linear time-invariant systems with polytopic uncertainty. To avoid state feedback or using an observer, the control law uses static output feedback. These systems’ control law design problem is reformulated in the repetitive process setting to ensure robust stability along the trial property. Hence, monotonic convergence in the trial-to-trial direction is guaranteed over the whole uncertainty domain. This approach results in a linear matrix inequality-based design, and an illustrative example is given.
