Herein, a novel tetracycline (TC) removal strategy was established by activation of persulfate (PS) using Fe1Mg2-biochar (Fe1Mg2-BC), which was synthesized by wet impregnation method. Results revealed that TC elimination efficiency by Fe1Mg2-BC was significantly higher than those of BC and FeMg binary oxides, which may possibly result from the synergy of BC and FeMg binary oxides. Fortunately, Fe1Mg2-BC/PS method had an excellent ability for TC decomposition over a wide pH range of 3-11, and 87.3% of TC was removed after 60 min treatment. Several characterization methods were utilized to explore the properties of prepared materials. Quenching experiments and electron spin resonance (ESR) analyses confirmed that the superoxide radical (O2•−), followed by singlet oxygen (1O2) advanced TC degradation. The main degradation products were recognized by LC-MS measurement. Hence, the TC decomposition mechanism was proposed. Additionally, all the tests were also carried out in actual water samples. The results indicated that the Fe1Mg2-BC/PS system possessed the outstanding resistance for interferences in real water. This work proposes a new direction for the potential environmental applications of modified biochar. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Deep adaptive fuzzy clustering for evolutionary unsupervised representation learning

Cluster assignment of large and complex images is a crucial but challenging task in pattern recognition and computer vision. In this study, we explore the possibility of employing fuzzy clustering in a deep neural network framework. Thus, we present a novel evolutionary unsupervised learning representation model with iterative optimization. It implements the deep adaptive fuzzy clustering (DAFC) strategy that learns a convolutional neural network classifier from given only unlabeled data samples. DAFC consists of a deep feature quality-verifying model and a fuzzy clustering model, where deep feature representation learning loss function and embedded fuzzy clustering with the weighted adaptive entropy is implemented. We joint fuzzy clustering to the deep reconstruction model, in which fuzzy membership is utilized to represent a clear structure of deep cluster assignments and jointly optimize for the deep representation learning and clustering. Also, the joint model evaluates current clustering performance by inspecting whether the re-sampled data from estimated bottleneck space have consistent clustering properties to progressively improve the deep clustering model. Comprehensive experiments on a variety of datasets show that the proposed method obtains a substantially better performance for both reconstruction and clustering quality when compared to the other state-of-the-art deep clustering methods, as demonstrated with the in-depth analysis in the extensive experiments. Zn anodes suffer from the formation of uncontrolled dendrites aggravated by the uneven electric field and the insulating by-product accumulation in aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). Here, an effective strategy implemented by 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hydrogen sulfate (BMIHSO4) additive is proposed to synergistically tune the crystallographic orientation of zinc deposition and suppress the formation of zinc hydroxide sulfate for enhancing the reversibility on Zn anode surface. As a competing cation, BMI+ is proved to preferably adsorb on Zn-electrode compared with H2O molecules, which shields the "tip effect" and inhibits the Zn-deposition agglomerations to inducing the horizontal growth along Zn (002) crystallographic texture. Simultaneously, the protonated BMIHSO4 additives could remove the detrimental OH- in real-time to fundamentally eliminate the accumulation of 6Zn(OH)2·ZnSO4·4H2O and Zn4SO4(OH)6·H2O on Zn anode surface. Consequently, Zn anode exhibits an ultra-long cycling stability of one year (8762 h) at 0.2 mA cm-2/0.2 mAh cm-2, 3600 h at 2 mA cm-2/2 mAh cm-2 with a high plating cumulative capacity of 3.6 Ah cm-2, and a high average Coulombic efficiency of 99.6% throughout 1000 cycles. This work of regulating Zn deposition texture combined with eliminating notorious by-products could offer a desirable way for stabilizing the Zn-anode/electrolyte interface in AZIBs. © 2024, The Authors. Ternary Compression for Communication-Efficient Federated Learning

Learning over massive data stored in different locations is essential in many real-world applications. However, sharing data is full of challenges due to the increasing demands of privacy and security with the growing use of smart mobile devices and IoT devices. Federated learning provides a potential solution to privacy-preserving and secure machine learning, by means of jointly training a global model without uploading data distributed on multiple devices to a central server. However, most existing work on federated learning adopts machine learning models with full-precision weights, and almost all these models contain a large number of redundant parameters that do not need to be transmitted to the server, consuming an excessive amount of communication costs. To address this issue, we propose a federated trained ternary quantization (FTTQ) algorithm, which optimizes the quantized networks on the clients through a self-learning quantization factor. Theoretical proofs of the convergence of quantization factors, unbiasedness of FTTQ, as well as a reduced weight divergence are given. On the basis of FTTQ, we propose a ternary federated averaging protocol (T-FedAvg) to reduce the upstream and downstream communication of federated learning systems. Empirical experiments are conducted to train widely used deep learning models on publicly available datasets, and our results demonstrate that the proposed T-FedAvg is effective in reducing communication costs and can even achieve slightly better performance on non-IID data in contrast to the canonical federated learning algorithms. Lignite, a low-grade coal, accounts for over 40% of the global coal reserves. The use of lignite has been limited compared to other grades due to its low calorific value, high impurities content, and elevated volatile matter. Exploring a scalable and environment-friendly approach to upgrade lignite will offer new opportunities. In this work, Ultrafast High-Temperature Carbonization (UHC) has been developed to carbonize lignite and modify its nanoscale structure to construct a conductive porous membrane. The whole process takes only 30 s with an ultrafast heating rate exceeding 2400°C/min and a maximum temperature over 1500°C. Upon heating the pore structures in the coal membrane evolves into micro- and mesopores with a specific surface area of over 300 m2/g. The carbonized coal-based membrane provides superior performance as a solar evaporator for water treatment, due to its interconnected porous structures, hydrophilicity, and over 85% absorption of full-band visible light. Under 1 sun solar irradiation, the membrane shows over 98.2% removal rate of salts, heavy metal ions, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Repetitive process based design of PD-type iterative learning control laws for batch processes with time-delays

This paper uses linear matrix inequality techniques and the Kalman-Yakubovich-Popov lemma to design an iterative learning control law for a class of batch processes with state delays. The design procedure is based on the stability theory for repetitive processes, a class of 2D systems. A numerical example illustrates the new design and demonstrates that the design has advantages compared to the existing alternatives.

Genlstein,the major Isoflavone in soybean,was recently reported to exert beneficial effects in metabolic disorders and inflammatory *** the;present study,we investigated the effects arid mechanisms of a dietary concentration of genlstein on the inflammatory response In lipopofysaccharide(LPS)-treated RAW 264.7 *** results demonstrated that genistein effectively jnhibited the LPS-induced overproduction of tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α)and interleukin 6(IL-6),as well as LPS-induced nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB) *** addition,the data also showed that genlstein prevented LPS-lnduced decrease In adenosine moriophosphate-activated protein kinase(AMPK)*** effects were opvj !ously attenuated by an AMPK *** together,our results suggest that the dietary concentration of genlstein is able to attenuate inflammatory responses via inhibition of NF-κB activation following AMPK stimulation:The data provide direct evidence for the potential application of low concentrations of genlstein in the prevention and treatment of Inflammatory diseases.

A Quantized H-infinity control for networked control systems with time-varying delay and multiple packet dropouts

This paper is concerned with the problem of quantized H-infinity control for networked control systems (NCSs) with time-varying delay and multiple packet dropouts. The packet dropouts in both the measurement channel and the control channel are considered simultaneously, and are modeled as stochastic variables with Bernoulli random binary distribution. Both the control input and measurement output are quantized before transmission and the quantization errors are described as sector-bound uncertainties. Sufficient conditions for the existence of an observer-based, delay-dependent controller are developed to ensure the exponentially mean-square stability of the closed-loop system and to achieve the optimal H-infinity disturbance attenuation. A numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
