Rare earth wastewater is an emerging wastewater featuring high salinity, strong acidity and a complex background with multiple contaminants. A nanofiltration (NF) membrane with better performance is desired to tackle the challenge of rare earth wastewater to reduce its negative impact on the environment. Herein, a novel nanocomposite substrate-supported thin film composite (TFC) NF membrane with good stability and superior separation performance was reported. The inorganic two-dimensional O-MoS2 nanosheets were embedded into the PSf substrate via a nonsolvent-induced phase inversion method. The PSf/O-MoS2 nanocomposite was used as the support for the interfacial polymerization. the pore structure of the substrate shifted from a larger irregular bubble pore structure into a finger-like porous structure when the content of O-MoS2 was 0.06 wt%. As a result, the nanocomposite substrate-supported TFC membrane had a 1.7 times higher water flux and improved salt rejections compared to that of the control membrane. The obtained NF membrane showed excellent separation performance with a high salinity removal efficiency of 95% in treating real rare earth wastewater (diluted 50 times, pH: 2.46). This work also highlights the modification of the substrate by functional nanomaterials could provide versatile ways to improve the separation performance and stability of TFC membranes. © 2022, The Authors. Organic photothermal materials, particular the donor-acceptor (D-A) type ones, have attracted increased attention because they could efficiently transform solar energy to heat in an environmentally friendly manner. So far, there are many strategies to improve the fluorescence of D-A type molecules, while how to quench the fluorescence via non-radiative decay process and thus maximize the solar-thermal conversion efficiency is rarely investigated. Herein, a new design strategy is proposed to overcome this bottleneck, that is, formatting a unique twisted intramolecular charge-transfer (TICT) excitation state for the D-A type molecule. To demonstrate this new design strategy, three D-A molecules TPA-BTO, TPA-BTO-Py+ and GTPA-BTO-Py+ are synthesized with the consideration of employing stronger donor/acceptor moieties. The photophysical measurements and theoretical calculations reveal that these molecules display strong tendency to form TICT state, and the stronger donor/acceptor would significantly promote the TICT-based non-radiative decay process. Consequently, the target molecule GTPA-BTO-Py+ is totally non-fluorescent and could efficiently transform the absorbed solar energy to heat. Further combined with the wide absorption up to 1300 nm, GTPA-BTO-Py+ solid displays a high solar-thermal conversion efficiency of 20.5%. Finally, the utility of GTPA-BTO-Py+ as highly efficient photothermal material in solar energy is highlighted by water evaporation and thermoelectric generation. © 2023, The Authors. Abundant gas resources are present in coal mine goaf globally, occurring not only in abandoned mines but also in actively mining ones. The extraction and utilization of abandoned gob methane (AGM) not only bolsters unconventional natural gas production but also aids in mitigating environmental issues, particularly methane emissions as a greenhouse gas. However, in China, there are common engineering challenges associated with extracting AGM using surface wells, namely short production cycles and low gas output rates. Therefore, further research is imperative to enhance the efficiency of AGM extraction. This study aimed to investigate the influence of negative pressure variations and the intermittent extraction method on the gas production characteristics of a surface well named Well HJD3 in the Xinghua Coal Mine, situated in the Jixi Basin in northeast China. The findings indicated that the intermittent extraction method has been demonstrated as an effective approach for the AGM extraction within the abandoned longwall gob based on three extraction periods and three recharge periods. When the methane concentration is found to decrease a threshold, temporarily ceasing drainage and entering the recharge period is advisable. This strategic halt in extraction has significant advantages for the subsequent extraction cycle. Each extraction period could be divided into three phases: near-well drainage, expansion of the drainage radius, and decline in methane concentration. The recharge comprises the negative pressure recovery and methane concentration increment. Furthermore, there exists an optimal negative pressure that enables the attainment of the maximum flow rate as a parabolic-like relationship between negative pressure and flow rate is found. Manipulating the negative pressure can maximize the efficiency of extraction by increasing the flow rate. Microplastics, interacting with drought stress, have become threat to crops by altering soil environment. Currently, the effect of combined microplastic and drought stress on crop growth remain poorly understood. In this work, the mechanism of multi-stress responses was investigated under the exposure of polvinylchloride microplastic (PV) and drought (D) individually and in combination (DPV) on rice varieties Hanyou73 and Q280 through proteomics and metabolomic analysis. All treatments negatively affect chlorophyll content, antioxidant enzyme activities, rice grain composition, metabolome and proteomic profiling of both rice varieties. Full rice grain yield was decreased under all treatments except PV treatment in which it was increased in both rice varieties. DPV treatment shows the lowest grain yield and more adverse effects on metabolome by affecting glycerophospholipid metabolism, tryptophan metabolism and alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism. Soluble sugar contents were decreased in H73 but in Q280 increased by 159 % under DPV and 123 % in PV treatment, compared to their control group. The results from metabolomics illustrate that glycerophospholipid metabolism is commonly altered in both rice types under all treatments. PV and drought alone and in combination induce extensive alterations in proteomics of rice leaves especially impacting proteins related to binding, translation and photosynthetic process. The results reveal that PV and DPV treatments highly distort the abundance of metabolites and proteins in both rice types, demonstrating that microplastic toxicity effects on rice plants become more severe when combined with drought stress. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

The mismatch between the limited reduction in algal biomass and the improved water quality, attributable to diminished nitrogen and phosphorus loads, warrants further in-depth investigation to elucidate their complex associations. In this study, the 95% quantile regression model was employed to quantify the transformation efficiency of Total Nitrogen (TN) and Total Phosphorus (TP) into Chlorophyll a (Chla), proposing indicators of nitrogen (NA) and phosphorus (PA) availability for algae. The spatiotemporal variability and driving mechanisms of NA and PA in Erhai Lake were explicated. NA and PA in Erhai Lake exhibit pronounced seasonal variations, peaking during the wet season and declining in the dry season. In the dry season, transparency, water level, and pH significantly influence NA and PA, explaining 79.9% and 82.4% of total variance, respectively. During the wet season, precipitation and temperature also play pivotal roles, accounting for 83.2% and 84.4% of the total variance, respectively. Environmental factors enhance the increase of NA and PA by boosting the utilization capacity of algae for nutrients and the bioavailability of nitrogen and phosphorus. The rise in NA and PA, combined with high TN and TP inflow loads, propels algal biomass growth during the wet season. This study establishes a quantitative relationship between NA, PA, Chla, and the TN and TP concentration thresholds in Erhai Lake, proposing strategies for setting time-specific TN and TP concentration thresholds and regulating NA and PA to control algal biomass. It also highlights the challenges in managing lake eutrophication due to the seasonal variation of NA and PA and their intricate driving mechanisms. The establishment of NA and PA indicators and TN and TP thresholds are crucial for understanding and predicting lake eutrophication and algal blooms. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper is concerned with the problem of robust control for uncertain impulsive systems with input constraints. The parametric uncertainties are assumed to be time-varying and norm-bounded. The input constraints under consideration are novel reverse polytopic constraints avoiding a set of specified input values. Via the designed state feedback switching control law, the input constraints can be satisfied. Moreover, by applying the Lyapunov function theory, sufficient conditions for robust stabilization and control are established in terms of linear matrix inequalities. A numerical example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

Weathered crust elution-deposited rare earth ores (WREOs) are rich in medium and heavy rare earth. In order to improve the in-situ leaching process, which is prone to landslides and poor permeability, cationic hydroxyethyl cellulose (PQ-10) was used as a novel green swelling inhibitor and percolation promoter and was mixed with conventional leaching agent ammonium sulfate ((NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 ) to form a composite leaching agent to study the performance and mechanism of swelling inhibition and percolation promotion. Adding PQ-10 can inhibit the hydration swelling of WREOs, promote the percolation effect of the leaching agent, improve the rare earth (RE) leaching efficiency, and reduce the impurity aluminum (Al) leaching efficiency. Compared with the conventional leaching agent 2 wt% (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 , the percolation time is reduced by 50% by using the composite leaching agent (0.02 wt% PQ-10+2 wt% (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 ). PQ-10 has positively charged quaternary ammonium groups and hydrophilic group hydroxyl groups, which makes it easy to adsorb on WREOs multiple sites through electrostatic interaction and hydrogen bonding, weakening the electrostatic repulsion between mineral particles, reducing the WREOs interlayer spacing, compressing the double electric layer thickness at the solid-liquid interface, weakening the mineral hydration swelling and increasing the percolation rate. The long carbon chains of the polymer entangle and link the fine mineral particles to agglomerate them, increasing their particle size and reducing their hydration dispersion, and preventing blockage of the percolation pores caused by migration of the fine particles through the ore body with the solution. PQ-10 molecules also insert the mineral interlayer and expulsion of the internal water, further inhibiting the swelling of WREOs.
