States of traffic situations can be classified into peak and nonpeak periods. The complexity of peak traffic brings more difficulty to forecasting models. Travel time index (TTI) is a fundamental measure in transportation. How to master the characteristics and provide accurate real-time forecasts is essential to intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Cooperating with state space approach, least squares support vector machines (LS-SVMs) are investigated to solve such a practical problem in this paper. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time to apply the technique and analyze the forecast performance in the domain. For comparison purpose, other two nonparametric predictors are selected because of their effectiveness proved in past research. Having good generalization ability and guaranteeing global minima, LS-SVMs perform better than the others. Providing sufficient improvement in stability and robustness reveals that the approach is practically promising.

This paper studies the state feedback stabilization of LTI plants over wireless block-fading channels. The packet-loss rate of each channel depends on power level and packet length used for transmission as well as channel power gain. Different from the case of fixed packet-loss rate, the packet-loss rate considered in this paper is random and time-varying as the channel power gain is so for wireless communication. When power level and packet length are assumed to be time-invariant for every transmission at each channel, necessary and sufficient conditions for mean square stabilizability via state feedback are given in terms of the unstable poles of the plant. The performance defined as the asymptotic mean square norm of the system state is also discussed for the scalar case.

The observer-based controller with finite-time bounded property design technique for a class of discrete-time Markov jump linear systems governed by deterministic switches is presented in this paper. Less conservative conditions are derived to ensure the state trajectories of the closed-loop systems keep within the desired bound in given-time interval by allowing the Lyapunov function to increase at every switching instant with a limited increasing rate. Meanwhile, considering the effect of time-delay on the transient performance of the systems, the analytic form of the relationship among time-delay, average dwell time and given finite time horizon are obtained through an average dwell time constraint. A numeric example is given to verify the results we derived.
