Size and color are two important indexes to measure the external quality of apples. The current apple size and color detection methods are mostly designed on PC platform, which are difficult to be popularized to smaller companies and growers for the high expense. This research designed and implemented a novel detection system based on embedded platform that covers full function of apple size and color detection but with much lower cost. The hardware of system was mainly composed of ARM11 processor, CMOS camera and stepping motor. The real-time image of apple was acquired by CMOS camera and diameter value was extracted from image as index of size after image preprocessing. Considering that HSI color model is more close to human visual perception than RGB color model, the RGB image acquired by the CMOS camera was transformed to HSI color model. The H component was calculated to determine the percents of red component, which was used for color grading of apple. Preliminary experiments show that the average detection time is 300ms, color detection accuracy is 90% and size (60∗60 pixel) detection accuracy is 93%, respectively. Compared with the traditional apple detection system, this system has the advantages of higher detection speed, lower cost, and smaller size. It will have a good prospect of application in apple quality detecting areas.

This paper considers the parameter estimation problem of a water level system described by a pseudo-linear autoregressive moving average(ARMA) model. We derive the state space model of a three-tank water level system by using the fluid dynamics, and obtain the discrete-time model and its input-output representation by using the linearization method and the Euler method. By using the filtering technique, a filtering based gradient iterative(F-GI) algorithm is given and a filtering based least squares iterative(LSI) algorithm is presented for improving the convergence rates and furthermore, a filtering based decomposition LSI algorithm is derived for improving the computational *** key is to use the hierarchical identification principle, to apply the data filtering technique and the decomposition technique to identification, and to replace the unknown terms in the information vectors with their estimates. Compared with the F-GI algorithm, the filtering based LSI algorithm and the filtering based decomposition LSI algorithm have faster convergence rates. This paper aims to improve the performance of a class of distributed parameter systems for the optimal switching of actuators and controllers based on event-driven control. It is assumed that in the available multiple actuators, only one actuator can receive the control signal and be activated over an unfixed time interval, and the other actuators keep dormant. After incorporating a state observer into the event generator, the event-driven control loop and the minimum inter-event time are ultimately bounded. Based on the event-driven state feedback control, the time intervals of unfixed length can be obtained. The optimal switching policy is based on finite horizon linear quadratic optimal control at the beginning of each time subinterval. A simulation example demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed policy.

Hyperspectral imaging is a promising technique for identifying variety of seeds. But the hyperspectral features of seeds are vulnerable to the influence of years. Present modeling methods mostly depend on the training samples in the same year and prediction accuracy of these models will be decreased when these models are used to discriminate the same kind of seeds from the other different years. To improve the stability and robustness of the model, hyperspectral image coupled with model updating strategy based on support vector data description (SVDD) algorithm and Least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) was proposed. SVDD was used to find new samples which were not contained in the original model to update present SVDD model, respectively. Recognition experiments on four kinds of maize seeds under different years showed that the model updating strategy based on SVDD and LSSVM worked well, and the prediction accuracy of model was improved from 84.13% to 93.91% by adding 11.5% to 13.15% of samples under testing from other years to the original training set.

Clustering is an energy efficient routing protocol for wireless sensor networks. Traditional clustering methods can prolong the network lifetime and achieve scalable performance, but they do not consider the event development. In many applications, the scalability and occurrence region of events often change. A dynamic clustering method with overlaps(DCMO) is proposed in this paper. Due to the 2-logical-coverage overlaps of the proposed clustering method, the clusters can be migrated with the changing tendency of events. As a result, the sensed data can be transmitted at a lower price. Simulations show that the proposed DCMO method has lower energy consumption, compared with LEACH protocol.

This paper considers the recursive state estimation problem for a class of Markov jump linear systems(JMLSs) with unknown transition probabilities(TPs). Compared with other existing recursive estimators, the underlying real but unknown TPs to be addressed in our method are allowed to be time-variant. The expectation and covariances of residual error calculated in the interacting multiple model(IMM) algorithm are computed to demonstrate that Kalman filter running under true systems can still perform satisfactorily in the presence of wrong TPs and the various mode probabilities reflect the influences of uncertain TPs. A compensation operator which heuristically modifies the posterior probabilities by adjusting a compensation parameter is then developed. A moving target tracking example of the proposed method is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness.

Synchronization problem is investigated for multiple harmonic oscillators with identical communication delay, and two predictor-based distributed algorithms, which include asynchronously-compensated form and synchronously-compensated form, are proposed. To analyze the delay robust-ness intuitively, two predictor-based algorithms accompanied with the normal asynchronously-matched and synchronously-matched distributed algorithms are studied for a simplest interconnection topology that a oscillator follows a leader. Under general directed topology, delay-dependent sufficient conditions are obtained respectively for the synchronization algorithm in asynchronously-compensated and synchronously-compensated algorithms by using frequency-domain analysis. Numerical simulations illustrate the correctness of the theoretical analysis.
