Wind field reconstruction for the dispersion modeling of accidental chemical spills on complex geometry

chemical spills on complex geometry are difficult to model due to the uneven concentration distribution caused by air flow over ground obstacles. Computational fluid dynamics(CFD) is one of the powerful tools to estimate the building-resolving wind flow as well as pollutant dispersion. However, it takes too much time and requires enormous computational power in emergency situations. As a time demanding task, the estimation of the chemical spill consequence for emergency response requires abundant wind field information. In this paper, a comprehensive wind field reconstruction framework is proposed, providing the ability of parameter tuning for best reconstruction accuracy. The core of the framework is a data regression model built on principal component analysis(PCA) and extreme learning machine(ELM). To improve the accuracy, the wind field estimation from the regression model is further revised from local wind observations. The optimal placement of anemometers is provided based on the maximum projection on minimum eigenspace(MPME) algorithm. The fire dynamic simulator(FDS) generates high-resolution data of wind flow over complex geometries for the framework to be implemented. The reconstructed wind field is evaluated against simulation data and an overall reconstruction error of 9% is achieved. When used in real case,the error increases to around 12% since no convergence check is available. With parameter tuning abilities,the proposed framework provides an efficient way of reconstructing the wind flow in congested areas.

Fine-Grained Visual Categorization (FGVC) is challenging due to the superior similarity among categories and the large within-category variance. Existing work tackles this problem by designing self-localization modules in an end-to-end DCNN to learn semantic part features. However the model efficiency of this strategy decreases significantly with the increasing of the number of categories, because more parts are needed to offset the impact of the increasing of categories. In this paper, we propose a label-smooth learning method that improves models applicability to large categories by maximizing its prediction diversity. Based on the similarity among fine-grained categories, a KL divergence between uniform and prediction distributions is established to reduce model’s confidence on the ground-truth category, while raising its confidence on similar categories. By minimizing it, information from similar categories are exploited for model learning, thus diminishing the effects caused by the increasing of categories. Experiments on five benchmark datasets of mid-scale (CUB-200-2011, Stanford Dogs, Stanford Cars, and FGVC-Aircraft) and large-scale (NABirds) categories show a clear advantage of the proposed label-smooth learning and demonstrate its comparable or state-of-the-art performance. This paper is concentrated on the $\mathcal {H_{\infty }}$ state estimation problem for switched coupled neural networks based on a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model. Notably, the time-variant network topology with alternate fast switchings and slow ones is described suitably by a persistent dwell-time rule, and the interactive dynamics with both cooperative properties and antagonistic ones among nodes are featured comprehensively by the switching signed graph. In view of the communication pressures brought by network-induced problems and the requirements in digital control, the round-robin protocol and logarithmic quantization are flexibly integrated for more transmission efficiency and fewer data collisions. Thereafter, by utilizing a relaxed multiple Lyapunov function method and some novel matrix process techniques, sufficient criteria guaranteeing the exponential stability in a globally uniform sense with a prescribed $\mathcal {H_{\infty }}$ performance level of the estimation error system are established. Finally, the synthesized analysis of the proposed method is presented with an illustrative example.

In this paper, a novel real-time online UAV image mosaic algorithm is proposed to meet the real-time, robustness and accuracy requirements of practical application. First, the algorithm adopts GPS and track planning information to locate the adjacent images. Instead of the 8-DOF (degrees of freedom) homography transformation, the 4-DOF similarity transformation is estimated to more robustly register the UAV images and reduce their perspective errors. Second, a new method of local registration is developed to reduce the cumulative errors and calculation costs. Meanwhile, the real-time mosaic process is used to register images and update the panoramic image. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed approach is evaluated by a group of experiments on 4K images taken by quadrotor drones. According to the comparison of experiments, the proposed algorithm is robust to cumulative errors and obtains high-quality panorama. Additionally, through the analysis on stitching time and practical application, frame-by-frame mosaic synthesis is online updated in real-time. © 2020 ACM.

In order to solve the problems of poor real-time performance and single display method in traditional unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) orthographic image mosaic, this paper proposes a real-time updating technology of local area orthoimages based on 3D digital earth, which can be widely used in the fields of emergency rescue, environmental monitoring and military *** technology is that in the process of UAV aerial photography, the server receives sequence aerial image in real time and synchronously completes orthographic image splicing, then automatically cuts them into regular image tiles and transmits the regular image tiles to the display terminal in an incremental manner. The display terminal software constructs a 3D digital earth based on quadtree LOD algorithm, and updates the terrain texture of the target range with the received high-definition orthographic image tiles, so as to realize real-time coverage monitoring of key areas. In this paper, the above work is verified by real aerial images, and the results prove the feasibility and effectiveness of the work. © 2020 ACM.

Training sample selection is widely accepted as an important step in developing a near-infrared(NIR) spectroscopic model. For industrial applications, the initial training dataset is usually selected empirically. This process is time-consuming, and updating the structure of the modeling dataset online is difficult. Considering the static structure of the modeling dataset, the performance of the established NIR model could be degraded in the online process. To cope with this issue, an active training sample selection and updating strategy is proposed in this work. The advantage of the proposed approach is that it can select suitable modeling samples automatically according to the process information. Moreover, it can adjust model coefficients in a timely manner and avoid arbitrary updating effectively. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated by applying the method to an industrial gasoline blending process.

Sleep staging is an effective method for diagnosing sleep disorder and monitoring sleep quality. With the rapid development of machine learning technology, the automatic staging methods of sleep gradually replace the traditional manual interpretation which can improve the efficiency on sleep staging for medical research. LSTM networks can save the historical information as a reference for the current moment, which is undoubtedly a good way to improve sleep staging performance. In this paper, a convolutional neural network (CNN) is constructed to extract the features from a single-channel EEG. The Uni-directional Long Short-Term Memory (Uni-LSTM) network and Bi-directional Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM) network are combined with CNN to realize automatic sleep staging. The obtained results showed that the two presented network frameworks are effective and feasible on sleep staging. The Bi-LSTM which has more enriched sequence information got better classification performance than the Uni-LSTM.

Microgrid is an advanced application of distributed renewable energy utilization. With the development of energy Internet technology, microgrid is characterized by strong decentralization and high intelligence. The operation optimization of microgrid requires higher individual autonomy and rational ability, and the traditional centralized optimization is difficult to meet this development trend. In this paper, in order to better reflect the high autonomy of microgrid energy management, a distributed optimization based on potential game is proposed by comprehensively considering multiple independent individuals in the microgrid. Under this strategy, each individual makes decisions with the goal of maximizing their own profits, and completes the iterative solution of the strategy through communication with each other. Finally, a simulation example of islanded microgrid is used to verify the results, which shows that the individual autonomy and intelligence of the microgrid were improved, and the feasibility and effectiveness of the strategy are verified. © 2020 IEEE.

Quality-relevant fault detection plays an important role in industrial processes, while the current quality-related fault detection methods based on neural networks main concentrate on process-relevant variables and ignore quality-relevant variables, which restrict the application of process monitoring. Therefore, in this paper, a fault detection scheme based on the improved teacher-student network is proposed for quality-relevant fault detection. In the traditional teacher-student network, as the features differences between the teacher network and the student network will cause performance degradation on the student network, representation evaluation block (REB) is proposed to quantify the features differences between the teacher and the student networks, and uncertainty modeling is used to add this difference in modeling process, which are beneficial to reduce the features differences and improve the performance of the student network. Accordingly, REB and uncertainty modeling is applied in the teacher-student network named as uncertainty modeling teacher-student uncertainty autoencoder (TSUAE). Then, the proposed TSUAE is applied to process monitoring, which can effectively detect faults in the process-relevant subspace and quality-relevant subspace simultaneously. The proposed TSUAE-based fault detection method is verified in two simulation experiments illustrating that it has satisfactory fault detection performance compared to other fault detection methods. In modern industrial processes, the production process includes multiple operating modes, due to changes in production goals and conditions. And the data generated in this process is a mixture of Gaussian and non-Gaussian distributions. Therefore, the data distribution of multimode processes is uncertain and complex. It is difficult to monitor multimode processes accurately by using traditional Multivariate Statistical Process Monitoring（MSPM） methods. In this case, the absence of labeled data is considered more valuable. This paper proposes a new unsupervised domain adaptive method called the Distribution Adaptation Local Outlier Factor（DALOF）. This method can extract useful information from multimode data through domain adaptation, which can reduce the distribution difference of training data and improve the accuracy of modeling. In the DALOF model, data from different modes in the training set are defined as the source domain and the target domain. Weight the training data according to their correlation, and then project these data into a low-dimensional subspace. In this space, the distribution distance between the source and target domain is minimum. To solve the nonlinear characteristics of multimode data, this paper uses LOF to build a model and formed a density-based monitoring index. Numerical examples and Tennessee Eastman（TE） process simulation demonstrate the effectiveness of DALOF.
