Measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution removes all detector-side attacks in quantum cryptography, and in the meantime doubles the secure distance. The source side, however, is still vulnerable to various attacks. In particular, the continuous phase randomization assumption on the source side is normally not fulfilled in experimental implementation and may potentially open a loophole. In this work, we first show that indeed there are loopholes for imperfect phase randomization in measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution by providing a concrete attack. Then we propose a discrete-phase-randomized measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution protocol as a solution to close this source-side loophole.

The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is a promising application, but the structure-activity relationship between defect and photocatalytic 2e− ORR remains largely obscure. In this work, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with missing linker-cluster domain (MLCD) defects were employed to explore the underlying mechanism required for comprehensively understanding the MLCD defect effect on photocatalytic 2e− ORR, which mainly focused on the radical reaction and electronic behavior. Experiments and theoretical calculations revealed that incorporating MLCD defects significantly inhibits efficient photocatalytic kinetics, which might be attributed to the retarded charge transfer and variation in electronic behaviors. Meanwhile, the marginalized defective cluster showed undesirable electron dissipation and the augmented orbital-limited resistance induced by electron spin polarization, hindering the interfacial charge transfer through the "Ti-O" Bridge, which was unfavorable for O2 activation. This study provides insights into the internal mechanism of photocatalytic 2e− ORR for designing and optimizing excellent defective nanomaterials. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Counterfactual universal quantum computation

Universal quantum computation is usually associated with interaction among two-level quantum subsystems, as this interaction is commonly viewed as a necessity to achieve universal quantum computation. In this work we show that, contrary to this intuition, universal quantum computation can be achieved without interaction among initially independent two-level quantum subsystems. We call it counterfactual universal quantum computation. As special cases, we show how to achieve counterfactual communication of quantum states, counterfactual quantum swapping, and counterfactual quantum erasure codes. To ease practical implementation, we analyze counterfactual universal quantum computation with realistic devices, including the effects of finite execution time, photon loss, and atom missing. Besides the theoretical interest of illustrating the mysterious and counterintuitive nature of quantum physics, our work has practical applications to color imaging of ancient arts, upon which light is forbidden to shine.

Converting CO 2 to fuel is a promising strategy to mitigate the greenhouse effect and achieve ‘carbon neutrality’. Photothermal catalysis has been widely used for CO 2 reduction because it effectively reduces the apparent activation energy of the reaction and provides milder catalytic conditions as well as higher catalytic efficiency than conventional catalytic methods. In this review, the basic principles of photothermal catalytic CO 2 reduction and the factors used to evaluate photothermal catalytic conversion efficiency are introduced. Then, the common types of Ni-based catalysts and their design strategies are summarized and discussed. Among these catalysts, metal oxides have been extensively studied and developed. Accordingly, they currently achieve product yields up to the mmol/(g·h) level. Strategies such as elemental doping and morphology control are often adopted for the modification of photothermal catalysts as a means to improve catalytic performance. Finally, future trends in the field of photothermal catalytic CO 2 reduction are proposed, including mechanistic studies, practical applications, and coupling with other carbon-neutral technologies.

A Knowledge Base System for Operation Optimization: Design and Implementation Practice for the Polyethylene Process

Setting up a knowledge base is a helpful way to optimize the operation of the polyethylene process by improving the performance and the ef ciency of reuse of information and knowledge two critical ele- ments in polyethylene smart manufacturing. In this paper, we propose an overall structure for a knowl- edge base based on practical customer demand and the mechanism of the polyethylene process. First, an ontology of the polyethylene process constructed using the seven-step method is introduced as a carrier for knowledge representation and sharing. Next, a prediction method is presented for the molecular weight distribution (MWD) based on a back propagation (BP) neural network model, by analyzing the relationships between the operating conditions and the parameters of the MWD. Based on this network, a differential evolution algorithm is introduced to optimize the operating conditions by tuning the MWD. Finally, utilizing a MySQL database and the Java programming language, a knowledge base system for the operation optimization of the polyethylene process based on a browser/server framework is realized.

Clinical Named Entity Recognition (CNER) aims to automatically identity clinical terminologies in Electronic Health Records (EHRs), which is a fundamental and crucial step for clinical research. To train a high-performance model for CNER, it usually requires a large number of EHRs with high-quality labels. However, labeling EHRs, especially Chinese EHRs, is time-consuming and expensive. One effective solution to this issue is active learning, where a model asks labelers to annotate data which is beneficial to model performance improvement. Conventional active learning assumes a single labeler that always replies noiseless answers to queried labels. However, in real settings, multiple labelers provide diverse quality of annotation with varied cost and labelers with low overall annotation quality can still assign correct labels for some specific instances. In this paper, we propose a Cost-Quality Adaptive Active Learning (CQAAL) approach for CNER in Chinese EHRs, which maintains a balance between the annotation quality, labeling cost and the informativeness of selected instances. Specifically, our proposed CQAAL method selects cost-effective instance-labeler pairs to achieve better annotation quality with lower cost in an adaptive manner. Computational results on the CCKS2017 dataset demonstrate the superiority and effectiveness of CQAAL.

The target of this paper is studying the quasi-synchronization problems of the heterogeneous Lur'e networks with impulsive feedback control. By introducing impulsive feedback control, the heterogeneous Lur'e network is analyzed. The sufficient condition for guaranteeing quasi-synchronization is derived by means of linear matrix inequality(LMI), the Schur complement and the principle of comparison. More over, the upper bound of exponential quasi-synchronization errors is further calculated. Finally, the numerical simulations are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the control protocol and theoretical results.

In this paper, we investigate the stability analysis of stochastic opinion dynamics in which the agents are interfered by multiplicative noise. We propose a stochastic Altafini model of opinion evolution in signed social networks with multiplicative noise and give the analysis of almost sure exponential stability(ASES). Compared with the deterministic opinion dynamic and stochastic opinion dynamics in additive noise environments, our results concern the effects of the agents' free will, i.e.,multiplicative noise, in signed social networks. We establish a sufficient condition with stochastic multiplicative noise which can guarantee the stochastic system is almost sure exponential stability(ASES) when the parameters of the strength of noise is limited by the conditions. Numerical simulations are given to illustrate the above theoretical results.

This paper focuses on designing dynamic event-triggered (DET) protocols for consensus control of general linear multi-agent systems (MASs). Design algorithms are constructed for DET protocols with static and adaptive coupling, respectively. The designed event-triggering conditions involve internal dynamic variables that depend on the error information of the system, which provide more flexibility to reduce the number of triggered events than the existing results on linear MASs. The protocol with adaptive coupling is of the fully distributed nature. It is proved that the proposed protocols can ensure consensus and are not Zeno. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness and advantages of the designed protocols.
