Investigation of the Conjugate Heat Transfer and Flow Field for a Flat Plate with Combined Film and Impingement Cooling

Film cooling combined with internal impingement cooling is one of the most effective technologies to protect the gas turbine vanes and blades from the hot gas. In this study, conjugate heat transfer CFD study was undertaken for a flat plate with combined film cooling and impingement cooling. An experiment on conjugate heat transfer of a flat plate with combined film and impingement cooling was performed to validate the code. Then the effects of several parameters including Biot number, blowing ratio, film hole shape and impingement hole diameter on the overall cooling effectiveness were numerically studied. The results show that for a specific combined cooling scheme and a given blowing ratio, the coolant potential can be reasonably allocated to the internal and the external cooling to achieve the overall cooling effectiveness. As the blowing ratio increases, the overall cooling effectiveness trends to reach a maximum value. For different film hole geometrical, the maximum values of the overall cooling effectiveness at high blowing ratio approximate to the same value. At a given mass flow rate of coolant, the increase of the impingement hole diameter leads to the reduction of the overall cooling effectiveness.

Term translation pair alignment based on a parallel corpus of Chinese historical classics and their english translations

We introduce an improved MI-based phrase alignment approach to match Chinese historical terms with their English translations. The proposed approach is motivated by the findings about the inadequacy of popular machine translation systems like Babelfish and Systran in translating Chinese historical terms, and observations about the discrepancies by established translators and Sinologists in handling these historical terms. Modifications to the basic MI alignment approach, including Bridging, Pruning and Head-word Extension, integrate linguistic knowledge of the translation patterns of Chinese historical terms into statistical alignment algorithm. The proposed framework for alignment achieves more than 17 and 10 points increase in percentage respectively above the base line in two individual corpora and detects a number of valid alternative translations for some top-frequency Chinese historical terms. The discovery also alerts us to the potential impact that different corpus may have for an SMT system from the perspective of readability and efficiency. © 2010 Binary Information Press.

Nine-degrees-of-freedom (9-DoF) object pose and size estimation is crucial for enabling augmented reality and robotic manipulation. Category-level methods have received extensive research attention due to their potential for generalization to intra-class unknown objects. However, these methods require manual collection and labeling of large-scale real-world training data. To address this problem, we introduce a diffusion-based paradigm for domain-generalized category-level 9-DoF object pose estimation. Our motivation is to leverage the latent generalization ability of the diffusion model to address the domain generalization challenge in object pose estimation. This entails training the model exclusively on rendered synthetic data to achieve generalization to real-world scenes. We propose an effective diffusion model to redefine 9-DoF object pose estimation from a generative perspective. Our model does not require any 3D shape priors during training or inference. By employing the Denoising Diffusion Implicit Model, we demonstrate that the reverse diffusion process can be executed in as few as 3 steps, achieving near real-time performance. Finally, we design a robotic grasping system comprising both hardware and software components. Through comprehensive experiments on two benchmark datasets and the real-world robotic system, we show that our method achieves state-of-the-art domain generalization performance. Recently, researches on the reliability analysis of phased mission systems (PMSs) are very popular. And most of the existing research on PMSs assumed that all the components are statistically independent on each other, which is not meet the engineering reality. The system structure changes from phase to phase in the PMSs, so the dependency among components may also change in different phases. Meanwhile, the well-known phase dependency is also existing in the system reliability modeling. To model the varying dependency among components and phase dependency at the same time, a copula-based method is proposed for the reliability analysis of PMS with correlated components. Firstly, the system reliability of multi-state PMS with dependent components is evaluated by different copula functions. Then, multiple indicators are used to select the optimal copula functions for different phases. And an engineering case is illustrated to show the proposed copula-based method.

A novel approach for 3D motion capture data retrieval based on the Self-Organizing Map (SOM) and PCA index is proposed. Firstly, the Self-organizing map topological features are enhanced before learning. Characteristic will be mapped to a main surface after training every motion. Then, principal component analysis (PCA) is applied to deal with the surface characteristics. To improve the retrieval efficiency, an indexing scheme based on the principal eigenvector is constructed. Introduction of SOM avoid directing contact with the raw data, Follow-up work are only based on the main surface. It eliminate the position information influence of different frame length of the motion characteristics. Experimental results show that the algorithm is effective. © by Institute of Software, the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

designing biochemical systems that can be effectively used in diverse fields, including diagnostics, molecular computing and nanomachines, has long been recognized as an important goal of molecular programming and DNA nanotechnology. A key issue in the development of such practical devices on the nanoscale lies in the development of biochemical components with information-processing capacity. In this article, we propose a molecular device that utilizes DNA strand displacement networks and allows interactive inhibition between two input signals;thus, it is termed a cross-inhibitor. More specifically, the device supplies each input signal with a processor such that the processing of one input signal will interdict the signal of the other. Biochemical experiments are conducted to analyze the interdiction performance with regard to effectiveness, stability and controllability. To illustrate its feasibility, a biochemical framework grounded in this mechanism is presented to determine the winner of a tic-tac-toe game. Our results highlight the potential for DNA strand displacement cascades to act as signal controllers and event triggers to endow molecular systems with the capability of controlling and detecting events and signals. © 2020 The Author(s). Anomaly detection is a common application of machine learning. Out-of-distribution (OOD) detection in particular is a semi-supervised anomaly detection technique where the detection method is trained only on the inlier (in-distribution) samples - unlike the fully supervised variant, the distribution of the outlier samples are never explicitly modeled in OOD detection tasks. In this work, we design a novel GAN-based OOD detection network specifically designed to protect a cyber-physical signal systems from novel Trojan malware called non-control data (NCD) attack that evades conventional malware detection techniques. Inspired in part by the classical locally most powerful (LMP) test in statistical inferences, the proposed LMP-GAN trains the OOD detector (discriminator) by generating OOD samples that are aimed at making maximal alteration to the inlier samples while evading detection. We experimentally compare the results to the state-of-the-art anomaly detection methods to demonstrate the benefits and the appropriateness of the LMP-GAN OOD detector. © 2025 IEEE.

In the context of engineering education, to improve the practical engineering skills of engineering students, the teaching ideas and implementation methods of the curriculum are designed based on Outcome-based Education. A blended teaching approach was used to design the implementation process to achieve the curriculum objectives. In this paper, we explain the process of blended teaching from the two aspects of basic knowledge and competency training. Active learning of basic knowledge is implemented based on a three-step blended teaching model before, after, and during classes. It adopts the project-driven learning approach of the flipped classroom model and cultivates students' ability to solve complex engineering problems through collaborative group and intra-group mutual assessment. Based on the original objective assessment of the curriculum and under the current teaching model, we design a diversified evaluation approach to comprehensively assess the effectiveness of student competence achievement. Practice has shown that project-based inquiry-based teaching methods based on the flipped classroom model can promote learning outcomes for students and increase their interest in learning. It avoids the blind and aimless theoretical learning process of the student and improves the practical ability of the student. The methods and means of instruction of teachers have been further extended, and the ability of students to learn independently has been improved. © 2023 IEEE.

To meet the requirements of low latency and high reliability of vehicular computing, vehicular services need to be offloaded to multi-access edge computing (MEC) servers. However, due to the mobility of connected vehicles and the limited coverage of roadside units (RSUs), vehicular services need to be adaptively switched. In order to ensure the quality of service (QoS) in the process of vehicular service switching, a service switching approach based on deep reinforcement learning is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the optimization problem model is established by considering the QoS, service migration cost, and latency. Secondly, the problem is decomposed into several subproblems and transformed into Markov decision processes (MDPs). Finally, a deep reinforcement learning-based algorithm is employed to find the optimal service migration strategy. Simulation results indicate that the proposed approach can effectively ensure the QoS compared to the baseline approaches. © 2023 IEEE.

We propose a new concept design about carbon-free vacuum cleaner. The carbon-free vacuum cleaner moves under the act of external forces instead of the motor, and transmits the rotation speed from low to the ideal speed with the gear up box. In order to to verify the reasonableness of the gear up mechanism and weather the designing of the gears meet the demand, we construct the detail assemble model of the gear up mechanism based on pro/e software, and then analyze the gear with the finite element analysis method. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
