Spectrum analysis of interval process model and its application in uncertain vibration analysis

In recent years, the authors have extended the traditional interval method into the time dimension to develop a new mathematical tool called the “interval process model” for quantifying time-varying or dynamic uncertainties. This model employs upper and lower bounds instead of precise probability distributions to quantify uncertainty in a parameter at any given time point. It is anticipated to complement the conventional stochastic process model in the coming years owing to its relatively low dependence on experimental samples and ease of understanding for engineers. Building on our previous work, this paper proposes a spectrum analysis method to describe the frequency domain characteristics of an interval process, further strengthening the theoretical foundation of the interval process model and enhancing its applicability for complex engineering problems. In this approach, we first define the zero midpoint function interval process and its auto/cross-power spectral density(PSD) functions. We also deduce the relationship between the auto-PSD function and the auto-covariance function of the stationary zero midpoint function interval process. Next, the auto/cross-PSD function matrices of a general interval process are defined, followed by the introduction of the concepts of PSD function matrix and cross-PSD function matrix for interval process vectors. The spectrum analysis method is then applied to random vibration problems, leading to the creation of a spectrum-analysis-based interval vibration analysis method that determines the PSD function for the system displacement response under stationary interval process excitations. Finally, the effectiveness of the formulated spectrum-analysis-based interval vibration analysis approach is verified through two numerical examples.

Effect of adding Nb foil on joint properties of laser fusion welding for TC4 titanium and 7075 aluminum alloy

It is difficult to gain effective Ti-Al fusion welding joints due to their differences in thermal properties and the appearance of brittle Ti-Al Intermetallic Compounds(IMCs).The experiments of laser fusion welding for TC4 titanium and 7075 aluminum alloy were carried out,temperature field and ductility/brittleness,as well as chemical potential of elements,were calculated,and the effect of adding Nb foil on mechanical properties of the weld was also *** results suggested that Nb atoms tend to diffuse toward Al side,which is conducive to the participation of Nb in the metallurgical reaction and contributes to forming the Ti-Nb-Al IMC layer at the *** the thickness of Nb foil increases,the tensile-shear force of joint climbs first but then declines,and reaches the highest value of 1663 N with 0.10 mm-thickness Nb foil,representing 58.38%enhancement compared with the non-added *** Nb foil slows down the heat transfer as a blocker,and thus both the melting amount of Al and the mixing area of Ti and Al *** addition,Nb alloying reduces the brittleness of the Ti-Al ***,the joint properties of titanium/aluminum are improved with the addition of Nb foil.

A decoupled method for time-dependent reliability-based design optimization

Time-dependent reliability-based design optimization(TRBDO)has received extensive attention because of its ability to achieve optimal solutions that help meet the requirement for whole lifecycle reliability by quantitatively considering dynamic ***,directly solving TRBDO problems is computationally expensive,if not prohibitive,owing to the need to repeatedly evaluate time-dependent probabilistic *** address this challenge,an efficient decoupled method called sequential optimization and time-dependent reliability assessment(SOTRA)is proposed in this *** method transforms the original TRBDO problem,initially formulated probabilistically,into a problem using percentile formulation after discretizing time-dependent performance *** adopting the equivalent minimum performance target point(EMPTP)concept,the TRBDO problem is further converted into an equivalent deterministic optimization problem,which is subsequently solved through a sequential iteration process involving deterministic optimization and time-dependent reliability *** efficiently and robustly search an EMPTP for reliability analysis,a time-dependent self-adaptive finite-step length method is *** verify the proposed SOTRA method against existing TRBDO methods,a numerical example,a benchmark structural design case of a simply supported beam,and an engineering application for flexible wheel design are exemplified in this *** results demonstrate that the proposed SOTRA method exhibits high efficiency and robustness in solving TRBDO problems.

Path Tracking Controller design of Automated Parking Systems via NMPC with an Instructible Solution

Greatly enhanced corrosion/wear resistances of epoxy coating for Mg alloy through a synergistic effect between functionalized graphene and insulated blocking layer

The poor corrosion and wear resistances of Mg alloys seriously limit their potential applications in various *** conventional epoxy coating easily forms many intrinsic defects during the solidification process,which cannot provide sufficient *** the current study,we design a double-layer epoxy composite coating on Mg alloy with enhanced anti-corrosion/wear properties,via the spin-assisted assembly *** outer layer is functionalized graphene(FG)in waterborne epoxy resin(WEP)and the inner layer is Ce-based conversion(Ce)*** FG sheets can be homogeneously dispersed within the epoxy matrix to fill the intrinsic defects and improve the barrier *** Ce film connects the outer layer with the substrate,showing the transition *** corrosion rate of Ce/WEP/FG composite coating is 2131 times lower than that of bare Mg alloy,and the wear rate is decreased by~90%.The improved corrosion resistance is attributed to the labyrinth effect(hindering the penetration of corrosive medium)and the obstruction of galvanic coupling *** synergistic effect derived from the FG sheet and blocking layer exhibits great potential in realizing the improvement of multi-functional integration,which will open up a new avenue for the development of novel composite protection coatings of Mg alloys.
