Modulation waveform cycle normalization based unipolar SPWM controller

The thesis mainly proposed a novel design method for Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) controller based on modulation waveform cycle normalization. T is the period of sinusoidal modulation waveform, and T/n is the cycle of triangular carrier. Shift registers and adders of SPWM controller were designed to translate the 2n numerical value for SPWM waveform on-off switching points, which were calculated offline, to control the level of the outpout SPWM waveform,which is the key point of modulation waveform cycle normalization, hi the thesis RTL function simulation verification by ModelSim and testing for FPGA have been achieved successfully. The results show that the novel SPWM controller is reliable, which has practical significance. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The paper proposes a new hybrid error concealment for the multi-view video (MVV). Firstly, the lost macroblocks (MBs) are classified into the static MBs and the motive MBs by the motion information. Then the static MBs are repaired by image inpainting, which is improved to apply to inter and inter-view frame. The motive MBs are fixed by outer boundary matching algorithm (OBMA), in which candidate motion vector (MV) set is also expanded to inter and interview frame. The experimental results show that the hybrid algorithm can conceal the lost MBs with lower complexity and improve the subjective and objective quality, compared with traditional concealment algorithm. © 2015 IEEE.

Image and video coding in block-based image coding can cause blocking artifacts, which severely degrade visual quality in the compressed sequences. Loop deblocking filter method can reduce these artifacts and improve the video objective and subjective quality obviously. In this paper, we propose an efficient deblocking filtering method for multiview video coding, which considers the color bleeding distortion. Experimental results show that this proposed algorithm outperforms the traditional deblocking algorithm in terms of PSNR and subjective visual quality when QP value is relatively high. ©2010 IEEE.

Video retargeting using optimized crop-and-scale

Mobile devices are increasingly powerful in multimedia transmitting and browsing. However, the small screen and different aspect ratios of mobile devices lower visual quality while watching images or videos. Video retargeting is aim at fitting an existing video into arbitrary size and aspect ratio. Previous content-aware retargeting methods are mostly high computational cost, which limits their applications on the portable devices with low computation ability. In this paper, a new crop-and-scale approach is presented to adapt video to better suit the target display. We automatically find the optimal parameters of cropping window using the dynamic programming method,, and then scale it to fit the target display. The cropping window can smoothly shift during a shot to follow the movement＇of important objects. The retargeting results using our approach introduce no deformation and jitter effects over the whole video. Experimental results show the success of our approach on adapting a variety of source videos to small display sizes.

A new scheme of layered coding of stereoscopic video based on the correlation of motion vector fields (MV fields) is proposed in this paper, in which the bit streams robustness is improved to error channel and the coding efficiency is not reduced evidently. In our proposed scheme, the stereoscopic video is classified into one base layer and two enhancement layers. First, left-view video is encoded as Base Layer to ensure the basic quality of two-dimensional video. Then, the disparity vectors(DVs) of right-view video are encoded as Enhancement Layer *** lower bit rates further and reduce the network load, the strong correlation of the motion vectors(MVs) for two views video sequence are tested. Based on the correlation of MVs between views, the MVs of right-view are transmitted as Enhancement Layer 2 only if the correlation between left and right view is less than some threshold. Experimental results are demonstrated to testify the efficiency of our proposed scheme. ©2010 IEEE.

3D video representation with depth maps is one efficient framework of 3DTV/free viewpoint television (FTV). 3D effect can be reconstructed based on human visional principle of binocular disparity. Texture image plus depth map provides an efficient solution of 3DTV application and real-time depth estimation is one barrier due to huge processing time consumption on complexity algorithm in the processing. An efficient hardware implementation of depth estimation is proposed for real time execution in this paper. The estimation system includes dual-channel video capture, image preprocessing, density pixel matching, pixel correlation and post processing. Each step of the system takes advantage of the hardware resource and adopts pipeline architecture to reduce the latency of combinational logic module at every stage and increase the throughput of the disparity extraction module. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method reduces the processing time and improves the ability of high resolution processing. The system can reach 131fps and Full HD (1920x1080) resolution, is suitable for adaptive real-time depth estimation and can be used as a subsystem embedded in the capture system of stereo vision. © 2012 IEEE.

Influence of thermal annealing-induced molecular aggregation on film properties and photovoltaic performance of bulk heterojunction solar cells based on a squaraine dye

Squaraine （SQ） dyes have been considered as efficient photoactive materials for organic solar cells. In this work, we purposely controlled the molecular aggregation of an SQ dye, 2,4-bis[4-（N,N-dibutylamino）-2-dihydroxyphenyl] SQ （DBSQ- （OH）2） in the DBSQ（OH）2：[6,6]-phenyl-Cel-butyric acid methyl ester （PCBM） blend film by using the thermal annealing method, to study the influence of the molecular aggregation on film properties as well as the photovoltaic performance of DBSQ（OH）2：PCBM-based bulk heterojunction （BHJ） solar cells. Our results demonstrate that thermal annealing may change the aggregation behavior of DBSQ（OH）2 in the DBSQ（OH）2：PCBM film, and thus significantly influence the surface morphology, optical and electrical properties of the blend film, as well as the photovoltaic performance of DBSQ（OH）2：PCBM BHJ cells.

Two-dimensional (2D) materials have long been considered as ideal platforms for developing separation membranes. However, it is difficult to generate uniform subnanometer pores over large areas on 2D materials. We report that the well-defined eight-membered ring (8-MR) pores, typically formed at the boundaries of two antiparallel grains of monolayer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), can serve as molecular sieves for efficient water-ion separation. The density of grain boundaries and, consequently, the number of 8-MR pores can be tuned by regulating the grain size. Optimized MoS2 membranes outperformed the state-of-the-art membranes in forward osmosis tests by demonstrating both ultrahigh water/sodium chloride selectivity and exceptional water permeance. Creating precise pore structures on atomically thin films through grain boundary engineering presents a promising route for producing membranes suitable for various applications.

High-brightness blue organic light emitting diodes with different types of guest-host systems

We demonstrate high-brightness blue organic light emitting diodes(OLEDs) using two types of guest-host systems. A series of blue OLEDs were fabricated using three organic emitters of dibenz anthracene(perylene), di(4-fluorophenyl) amino-di(styryl) biphenyl(DSB) and 4,4'-bis[2-(9-ethyl-3-carbazolyl)vinyl]biphenyl(BCzV Bi) doped into two hosting materials of 4,4'-bis(9-carbazolyl) biphenyl(CBP) and 2-(4-biphenylyl)-5(4-tert-butyl-phenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole(PBD) as blue emitting layers, respectively. We achieve three kinds of devices with colors of deep-blue, pure-blue and sky-blue with the Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage(CIE) coordinates of(0.16, 0.10),(0.15, 0.15) and(0.17, 0.24), respectively, by employing PBD as host material. In addition, we present a microcavity device using the PBD guest-host system and achieve high-purity blue devices with narrowed spectrum.

systematic studies on fractal scan model for Flat Panel display (FPD) controllers

This paper presents the design and logic implementation of the fractal scan algorithm based on the mathematical model of the optimal scan architecture. Through the exploration of the sub-space code sequences and bit code sequences for different grey levels, we deduce the general formulae for the sequences and propose the corresponding logic implementations including the fractal scanning IP core and the general grey-level controller for Flat Panel display (FPD). The parameterised IP core for various grey levels, embedded in FPD scan controller, can efficiently increase the scan utilisation and imaging quality. This research provides a new engineering way to solve a pressing problem of high resolution FPD technology. Copyright © 2011 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.
