A new scheme of layered coding of stereoscopic video based on the correlation of motion vector fields (MV fields) is proposed in this paper, in which the bit streams robustness is improved to error channel and the coding efficiency is not reduced evidently. In our proposed scheme, the stereoscopic video is classified into one base layer and two enhancement layers. First, left-view video is encoded as Base Layer to ensure the basic quality of two-dimensional video. Then, the disparity vectors(DVs) of right-view video are encoded as Enhancement Layer *** lower bit rates further and reduce the network load, the strong correlation of the motion vectors(MVs) for two views video sequence are tested. Based on the correlation of MVs between views, the MVs of right-view are transmitted as Enhancement Layer 2 only if the correlation between left and right view is less than some threshold. Experimental results are demonstrated to testify the efficiency of our proposed scheme. ©2010 IEEE.

Video retargeting using optimized crop-and-scale

Mobile devices are increasingly powerful in multimedia transmitting and browsing. However, the small screen and different aspect ratios of mobile devices lower visual quality while watching images or videos. Video retargeting is aim at fitting an existing video into arbitrary size and aspect ratio. Previous content-aware retargeting methods are mostly high computational cost, which limits their applications on the portable devices with low computation ability. In this paper, a new crop-and-scale approach is presented to adapt video to better suit the target display. We automatically find the optimal parameters of cropping window using the dynamic programming method,, and then scale it to fit the target display. The cropping window can smoothly shift during a shot to follow the movement＇of important objects. The retargeting results using our approach introduce no deformation and jitter effects over the whole video. Experimental results show the success of our approach on adapting a variety of source videos to small display sizes.

Human-computer interaction using pointing gesture based on an adaptive virtual touch screen

Among the various hand gestures, pointing gesture is highly intuitive, and does not require any priori assumptions. A major problem for pointing gesture recognition is the difficulty of pointing fingertip tracking and the unreliability of the direction estimation. A novel real-time method is developed for pointing gesture recognition using Kinect based depth image and skeletal points tracking. An adaptive virtual touch screen is constructed instead of estimating pointing direction. When a user stands in a certain distance from a large screen to perform pointing behaviors, he interacts with the virtual touch screen as if it is just right in front of him. The proposed method is suitable for both large and small pointing gestures, and it's not subject to users' characteristics and environmental changes. Experiments have highlighted that the proposed approach is robust and efficient to realize human-computer interaction based on pointing gesture recognition by comparisons.

Human-computer interaction (HCI) has great interactive applications in many fields. A novel eye-hand coordination based HCI approach has been proposed. According to the fact that the eye gazing starts prior to the hand movement and reaches the target in advance, an eye-hand coordination model in a non-contact way is constructed by facial orientation and skeletal joints of hand. Both temporal median filtering and moving average filter strategies are developed to overcome some fluctuation influences during HCI. The diversity of interactive habits among multiple users is considered in an ordinary hardware from a crowded scene without any hypothesis for the scenario contents in advance. Comparative comparisons with state-of-the-arts have highlighted the superior performance of the proposed approach. © 2016 SERSC.

3D video representation with depth maps is one efficient framework of 3DTV/free viewpoint television (FTV). 3D effect can be reconstructed based on human visional principle of binocular disparity. Texture image plus depth map provides an efficient solution of 3DTV application and real-time depth estimation is one barrier due to huge processing time consumption on complexity algorithm in the processing. An efficient hardware implementation of depth estimation is proposed for real time execution in this paper. The estimation system includes dual-channel video capture, image preprocessing, density pixel matching, pixel correlation and post processing. Each step of the system takes advantage of the hardware resource and adopts pipeline architecture to reduce the latency of combinational logic module at every stage and increase the throughput of the disparity extraction module. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method reduces the processing time and improves the ability of high resolution processing. The system can reach 131fps and Full HD (1920x1080) resolution, is suitable for adaptive real-time depth estimation and can be used as a subsystem embedded in the capture system of stereo vision. © 2012 IEEE.

A new method for ADC IP integration in a mixed-signal MCU is proposed in this paper. The single conversion of ADC is controlled by three modes: software triggered mode, hardware triggered mode and PWM triggered mode. ADC and the PWM control module can work independently under software and hardware triggered mode. PWM triggered mode used for real-time monitoring is an innovation of the paper, which simplifies software and improves the operating efficiency of MCU. The design of the ADC control module is elaborated and full-chip mixed-signal verification using Nanosim-VCS is also given.

With the development of broadband wireless networks, high efficiency of wireless video transmission has been received increasingly greater attentions than before. One should settle the problems of high-compression efficiency and that of adaptation to the random variation of transmission bandwidth, as well as a network friendly design, in wireless environments. SP (Synchronization-Predictive) frame, which enables high efficiency of switching between two or more bitstreams with different qualities, is supported by H.264/AVC extended profile suitable for mobile services. On the other hand, FGS (fine-granular-scalability), which can always adapt to the network bandwidth varying but with some sacrifice of coding efficiency, is supported by MPEG-4. This paper proposes a solution for combination these two tools with each other so as to accommodate high bandwidth variations of wireless networks and low bandwidth variations flexibly for transmitted streams. Moreover, it also improves the efficiency of video streaming. Experimental results show that our proposed system outperforms FGS by 0.76 dB and the H.264/AVC-based video stream switching approach by 0.51 dB on average under 3GPP/3GPP2 wireless common test conditions

Tumor hypoxia severely limits the therapeutic efficacy of photodynamic therapy(PDT) for solid tumors,which is highly dependent on tissue oxygen *** this study,we developed a platinum(Ⅱ)-acetylide-based metallacycle compound bearing six 1,4-dimethylnaphthalenes(DMN) groups,and controlled the photodynamic and photothermal effects of the compound by adjusting the power of 730 nm laser to achieve reversible sensitization,storage and release of 1~O_(2) within a single *** compound formed nanoparticles by self-assembly and exhibited good water solubility and *** laser irradiation,the strong spin-orbit coupling of platinum atoms in the metallacycle facilitated 1~O_(2) *** produced 1~O_(2) was captured by the DMN carriers and transported into the hypoxic tumor,where 1~O_(2) release was triggered owing to the good photothermal effect of the extended conjugation of the *** therapy,the metallacycle serving as a photosensitizer,1~O_(2) carrier,and photothermal reagent,achieved the synergistic therapy of PDT/PTT,demonstrating the versatility of the *** study proposes a new strategy to develop phototherapy agents that are suitable for hypoxic tumors.

High-brightness blue organic light emitting diodes with different types of guest-host systems

We demonstrate high-brightness blue organic light emitting diodes(OLEDs) using two types of guest-host systems. A series of blue OLEDs were fabricated using three organic emitters of dibenz anthracene(perylene), di(4-fluorophenyl) amino-di(styryl) biphenyl(DSB) and 4,4'-bis[2-(9-ethyl-3-carbazolyl)vinyl]biphenyl(BCzV Bi) doped into two hosting materials of 4,4'-bis(9-carbazolyl) biphenyl(CBP) and 2-(4-biphenylyl)-5(4-tert-butyl-phenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole(PBD) as blue emitting layers, respectively. We achieve three kinds of devices with colors of deep-blue, pure-blue and sky-blue with the Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage(CIE) coordinates of(0.16, 0.10),(0.15, 0.15) and(0.17, 0.24), respectively, by employing PBD as host material. In addition, we present a microcavity device using the PBD guest-host system and achieve high-purity blue devices with narrowed spectrum.

Multiple cameras can be used to detect a certain object in a wide area so that users can freely move inside a wider interaction environment. One key problem is how to select the most appropriate camera with better view to perform a natural human-machine-interaction (HCI). An unsupervised scheme is developed for a best view selection. Face skin information is explicitly employed as view quality. The proposed view measurement has been defined which facilitates the system to select the most appropriate camera automatically. The proposal overcomes the effects of camera view directions and the distances between the user and the camera in selecting the best view. The approach is tested with different face databases and an actual interaction environment which shows that it is flexible and computational cost-effective. Experiments have highlighted that the mentioned method is robust and efficient when selecting the best view in a multi-camera system.
